I am an animal assisted psychotherapist and very often we have to schedule for 1 hour and even 90 minute sessions due to the nature of the work. Do I need to document the justification for going over the 53 minute mark and using 90837 on each progress note, or is this just a conversation to be had with the insurance company if an audit arises?
If you bill to insurance, include the justification in every note AND include it in the treatment plan interventions, that this is a planned part of the proposed process
