Believe it or not, it’s actually more expensive to house people on death row.
Because of the appeals and how they have to be isolated in their cells. Not to mention their trails consume more resources.

Do you know false eyewitness identification is a huge thing actually? That's actually like a huge study area in the field of psychology. For example, there have been cases where rape victims have actually misidentified their rapists. There's all these different cognitive processes that go into our memory. It might sound like it's as simple as "OH LOOK THATS THE EXACT GUY, I REMEMBER WHAT HIM", but its not actually that simple, there's all sorts of things that impair our recall
One case for example, a man was falsely convicted of rape. It was because the victim falsely identified him. There is actually an effect in psychology where your ability to distinguish and memorize facial features is impaired when it comes to people of different races. Essentially, your mind is more prone to have a more detailed memory of people of your own race whereas your mind won't process those features on nearly as detailed of a level when it comes to other races. It has something to do with the "in-group out-group bias". There's just certain things that trigger the way your mind processes information, whereas other details your mind just "doesn't care" enough to memorize. It's all based on automated biases so we generally don't know if our memory is blurry even if it is
There are even things like, sometimes false memories can be 'reinforced' by other people. For example, say you wrongly identify the suspect during a suspect lineup. You might tell the police officer you're 10% sure (in other words you think its the guy but you're not aboslute on it). But the officer might respond in such a way to like, congratulate you on doing a good job. They might say something like "Oh you did just fine, don't worry", and that positive reinforcement will lead to you becoming confident in the false memory. And there have been cases where that has happened.
Eyewitness testimony is actually a very, very, flawed form of evidence. Most people don't know because it's something they only really talk about in psychology or criminal justice fields. But believe it or not, eyewitness testimony is one of the most controversial things in our justice system. Like its one of those things that psychology and criminal justice experts argue the most about. It's in fact one of the main causes of false execution. I'm not saying it applies to this guy (who knows) but don't think that just because witnesses are seriously confident that it's the right guy, that it means its the right guy and that he did it. That's led to a lot of false convictions

I am generally against the death penalty, there is no room for even the slightest shadow of a doubt when a life is on the line else we become as bad as those whom we condemn but *if* there was no doubt as to his guilt then why wait so long? It only served to extend the torment of the survivors and to place 30 years of the killer's upkeep on our shoulders, on the shoulders of every tax payer in a country already drowning in debt.

No one after 30 years would still deny this UNLESS HE WAS INNOCENT AND THE OTHER GUY PROBABLY WAS TOO. If by chance he was guilty and drugs blocked his memory well God will clear his mind 🙏 BUT, if he is INNNOCENT as he persistently claimed then this was a miscarriage of justice with no closure what so ever just an innocent man condemned to death. We had a few groups who were falsely accused in England during the troubles who were blamed but, innocent even a man who died in prison was proven to be innocent after.
