      Yes David.. Aberdeen is my hometown and I have a wee doric accent at times. The central highlands in Vietnam have been overlooked for a long time.. its off the tourist / traveller trail so understanable. But of recent there is a boom in the property market and alot of interest in the area. Are you in the UK now? where abouts? plans to return to Vietnam? cheers Dave

      Flip-flops and sandals are the Vietnamese safety shoe. I have been told that my steel toed boots are not safe to drive my xe Honda. And that I need to drive with flip-flops because it is safer!

    Hello, just started watching your videos. I was born in Saigon, and moved to the states in 1972. My mother has never been anywhere in Vietnam except her hometown, Saigon, and Du Lat. Countryside is beautiful. Interesting to see the differences in houses between the States and Vietnam. My mom would try and explain her home in Vietnam but I could never visualize it until watching videos, etc. Your house came out very nice. It was hard to visualize when you first bought it, and how much damage , etc., but it came out very nice. What is the closet big city you a free w near so we can see your location area more clear. I want to visit but very unsure about the Communist Govt., etc.

      Hi Maria.. we are on the outskirts of Pleiku city, Gia Lai provence in the central highlands.
      There are no issues with visiting Vietnam as the country has modernized and is developing steadily.
      Which part of the US do you live?
      Saigon is a great city to visit and with all the interesting street food and markets a regular destination for us.
      How about your family? married, kids ect
      Thanks.

    It is exciting to see the house is taking shape. I like the cool climate of the Highland so I hope to do same in BaoLoc when I retire and move to VN. Question: it seems the bathroom is a bit narrow. Was this planned?

    • @adventuresinvietnam
      @adventuresinvietnam  2 года назад +1

      It just worked out the best way to split the room. A narrow toilet is pretty normal and the shower room is just right for us. The lens doesn’t always capture the reality we’ll. Perhaps in future vids it might look more spacious or acceptable. It’s always good to hear what others think. Keep the comments coming Ted. Cheers!

    It's never too early to start disciplining children. The earlier the better, as the won't know any different. But after letting them do whatever they like for 2-3 years, it will be difficult.

      Thanks Chris.. Thuy and I are both pretty active in our approach to child rearing.. so Maya doesn’t stand a chance against either of us. Ha ha
      Seriously though.. we are both thrilled so see Maya blossom in Vietnam, surrounded by family and friends. The active phase she is going through is incredible to witness and will reduce with age. I’m sure she’ll feature in some future content.
      Thanks again for your profound and sincere comments. Cheers Chris!

    Hi, we have a house in Bali and you mentioned that tile kick edge and tiles up to hip height. I also think it's ugly and we only have the kicking rant associated with mopping. I must confess that in many places just above the tile, the paint is peeling and a white mold appears. The reason for this is that construction is done differently in Asia than in Europe, because an insulation is laid between the foundation and the masonry wall on this wall, so that no moisture penetrates the wall. To combat those damp spots, I have not yet found a good solution, do you know how this problem is solved in Vietnam? I really enjoy following your videos, thanks for this :)

    • @adventuresinvietnam
      @adventuresinvietnam  2 года назад +1

      Hi Ben.. The Vietnamese building technique is to lay a foundation of hard rock. This seems to act as a damp resistant layer.. preventing water saturation in the brick and mortar. I wonder if the moisture content of the air in Bali is the culprit..
      how long have you been there? And where are you from originally?
      Cheers for the great comment & for watching the channel.

      @@adventuresinvietnam Hi, I'm Dutch and my wife is Indonesian, we live 6 months a year in Bali and we live in Nusa-Dua. The rest of the year in the Netherlands, residence Koog aan de Zaan, 5 Km from Amsterdam. We used to live in Bali all year round from 2009 to 2020, but to be honest, I still enjoy being partly in the Netherlands again. If she succeeds, she will receive a residence permit for an indefinite period. At this moment her residence permit is valid for 5 years. My wife is now doing an integration course in the Netherlands. We are not the youngest anymore, I am 70 years old and my wife 59. Well, now you know a little more about us :) Our house is built on limestone fudering, the subsoil is 1 meter deep is also limestone, but the rainy season at ours is intense and starts from October to April. It's obviously coming from the foundation up, I'm now figuring out what's best to do to partially solve this problem, from there. I hope my English is good enough and understandable.
