That’s a good cap hit for Sprong.
Pickings are pretty slim for UFAs. A bunch of good veterans to be had to fill out lineups though…
Forwards: Van Riemsdyk, Pacioretty, T Johnson
    Défense: Shattenkirk, J Schultz
    Goalie: Martin Jones

As Red Wings fan I was shocked the Wings didn't bring him back until I looked at the advanced stats; he is a MASSIVE defensive liability. He doesn't backcheck at all and gives up around 2 shot attempts for every 1 he generates. I can see him on the 3rd/4th line and some powerplay time, but unless the coaching staff can add 130ft. to his game he'll be a liability.

before I forgot my stupid thought of the day. Thinking about players on former teams. Jagr wasn't on the coyotes, like one of 3 teams he didn't play for. It would great though or really stupid but for fun kicks and giggles, that Jagr signs one day contract for each team he didn't play for, dress for the game, play at least one shift, and then go do another 1 day contract with the rest of the league so there's a Jagr jersey for everyone's favorite team. Talk about selling merchandise. The traveling Jagrs group would grow with every game he played.

I like the forward depth, but I think this probably means that if they want to add another defenseman, a guy like Garland is out. I love the player, but at almost 5 million, he's just too much for a 3rd line player, and now with the added wingers, he's not a 4th line player, so he's probably the odd man out, given his contract. He'd also potentially, as the centrepiece of a package, get the Canucks be a halfway decent defensive top 4 defenseman and maybe rid the Canucks of Poolman's contract. You never know. But now there's a bit of a logjam in the middle 6, and it's a good problem to have.

Gotta be honest, I've never really liked Joe Veleno's game much, I find him underwhelming. The contract seems a bit rich for my blood, but I hope he proves me wrong. LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘
