    This is what makes Pork Pie Hat a standard, a legend by Mingus... generations after him can play it their own way and it always remains a tribute to Mingus. One of the all time great jazz standards

      Navroze contractor Thats exactly Why it isnt a standard. Autumn Leaves is a standard because you dont think Autumn Leaves by XYZ, you think Oh Autumn Leaves by me. This is a great cover of a great tune but I dont really think It’s a standard. Not yet.

    My biggest influence! Yes, he's playing lead bass, but he and Jaco made the bass guitar an instrument! Many have followed!

      Why 2 guitars in ANY other band?

    • @LTJR.
      @LTJR. 3 года назад

      When Django Reinhardt was playing with the hot club of France with Stephane Grappelli, He hired another guitarist besides the one they already had (I think his brother was already in the group on rhythm) to make a total of three. When Stephane soloed he had two guys playing rhythm behind him, but until they hired the third guy , Django Only had one guy playing rhythm behind him. It could’ve been ego, could have just been a fuller sound that he wanted, and eveness behind the soloist

    Does he tune his bass up an octave? Or is it run through an effects processor?

    • @MikeGiusti
      @MikeGiusti 9 лет назад +3

      +Aubrey Bryant He plays in the tenor range with lighter gauge strings. Instead of the standard E, A, D, G, he tunes A, D, G, C, so the bass plays in a higher register.

    • @Valandor_Celestial_Warlock
      @Valandor_Celestial_Warlock 9 лет назад

      +Mike Giusti G to C is quite a jump. I like it. I'll have to try that.

    The spirit of the song disappears in this version, sorry yes they are great musicians yes Clark is a legend but, this is by far one of the worst 'goodbye pork pie hat' version ever ...

      Have to disagree 1156. I believe the versatility that Mingus built into this melody is well expressed by Stanley stretching its boundaries. Charlie Mingus would love this version.
