That was from Shrek Forever After, h the 4th Shrek movie. There are plenty of stories about how bad time shares are. I work in an industry where I meet with people signing up for timeshares and the reasoning the salesman usually gives for why they should do it has become “pass it on to the kids”. Which includes the annual maintenance fee of $2500 or more which alone can cover the cost of a hotel stay nearly anywhere in the world for a weekend.
Went through that garbage in Branson, RUDE seller named Joann, she was the rudest, meanest witch I’ve ever met. Intimidation tactics, she followed us to our car after we turned her in. Will NEVER give Wyndham our business.
When we told these people no, they started insulting us to try to get us to buy. “You’re not good enough to vacation here. You will never know what it’s like to have a great vacation.” F*** that, I prefer cruising anyway!
In order for them to Open a credit line with him, he had to have given them his social security number. Never give out your SSN unless you fully understand what it's for.
In order to receive a prize over a certain amount you have to give your SSN number so that the entity giving the prize can tell the IRS, so you don’t skip out on paying the taxes on it.
Same thing happened to my daughter and son-in-law, back in 2007. Took her months in direct contact with the corporate office but she did get the credit bill canceled. She also reported the criminals running that time share scam here in Wisconsin.
JoAnn, I know we are complete strangers but my mom's a senior and is going through this. Do you think your daughter would be willing to chat with me. We need help.
This is so bullshit; the customer claimed they didn't fill out a credit application.. WHHHAAAAT BULLSHIT OOO fill this out so you can get ur gifts My question would be, ummmm, why do I need to fill out a credit application They said we were there 5 hours At the end of the news cast, they said they were there 3 hours .. Which is it? The income is 60,000 on the application They openly admitted they didn't make that $$ But, the qualifications clearly say combined income of 60k or more, so they lied to take the presentation to get free shit. Sounds to me like these idiots had buyer's remorse, and they wanna play the blame game and cry baby and try to slander a company ... Man people like to blame blame for the blame when they should just blame themselves, morons! Accept responsibility!
What credit bill? This story stated Hillbilly Bob was approved and received a $15,000 line of credit. He didn't buy the timeshare with it. And if he doesn't go on a spending spree at Walmart, there won't be any bill. The 15k will just sit in a bank and wait for him to need it one day. When he decides to use it, then he'll get a bill, fees, and interest due. And if he's got shaky credit, and they managed to get him approved. It may actually help improve his score. Provided he doesn't use it.
My boyfriend and I went to Vegas and we were walking not even 2 feet out of the Pawn Stars shop got bombarded by them saying if we did this that and whatever we’d get free passes to activities there and food vouchers etc..well we did of course and yeah their “hour and a half” tour was more like 4 hours and the vouchers didn’t work..one free activity vouchers..not worth it. Never again will we talk to anybody who approaches us there
Timeshares make no sense whatsoever when you come out cheaper saving your money for your vacations and then going wherever you want - no strings attached.
When I took my extended family to Disney World we had 2400 sqft for 8 people with full size kitchen and a huge balcony for a whole week for about $800. Just get yourself a free one.
The fees keep increasing year after year….almost impossible to get rid of….terrible investment….if you want to change your location of stay it’s another fee…..scam
Wyndam Resorts should also clarify that the people were told it was a 90 minute presentation. I’m sure they weren’t at all happy to be there 3 and-a-half hours either! Me and my wife went to one of these a long time ago, they were pissed they couldn’t get us latched into any of their bullshit scams! We got up and left after about 30 minutes.
This news channel did a bad job concealing these folks personal information on these documents. I know where they live, their phone number, and where they work because the news was lazy. However, look at how he writes "6" in his phone number vs. the "6" in "$60,000". They are completely different. It is likely that the income information was filled out by someone else, but these people still gave up their social security numbers and other information. You have to be smarter in these high pressure sales scenarios.
I remember back in the day my co worker won a 35 mm camera! All he had to do was attend a time share meeting. I told him not to go ,” but it’s a 35 mm camera” . When he came back Monday I asked him how it went? He complained that it was cheap plastic camera and had to sit through 2 or 3 hours of sales pitch! These are old scams !
The same thing happened to us in Branson. FIVE HOURS, as well. They are fraudulant hucksters. We had at least 5 or 6 guys pouncing on us all at once. One of the first things they did was get my honest and trusting husband to fill out an application including his SS#! They lied, stretched the truth, asked my husband why he never took me anywhere nice. It was FIVE hours of lying and pounding on us, insulting us, etc. We were polite and decent, but very angry. I thanked them for the colostomy as we left.
U said it perfectly. Same as our experience.guy stopped us on our vacation and promised free tickets to shows if we only had 1hr of his time. We felt so degraded in the end.
The crooks that do this deserve to be put in prison for many years for stealing from vulnerable and gullible people, I mean you walk into a bank and rob it you can expect to be jailed for a long time
This happened TO ME. We went to a timeshare and they were giving us $3000 in stay credits to use for paying $60.. they wanted our SSN to give us our $3000 in free stay credits.. I was like OK.. We ended up NOT buying.. Guess what, I get a credit card for $1500K a few weeks later.. It was DIGITALLY signed. Come to find out, buried in the FINE print was that as part of accepting the $3000 in free stay credits, they have to secure it with a credit card, and to do this, they needed to submit for me for a credit card. WELL, come to find out, they then CHARGED that card $1500, and said after I used the $3000 in credits, they would refund the $1500. WTH?? But the stays HAD to be used within 1 year.. I looked and almost every date was blacked out.. I was like. NO WAY.. I went back to cancel. They said I had to return the brochure with all the points that I was given, that would be the only way to get a refund since that was bought.. WELL, I kept it BY CHANCE.. I went back to the office, returned the brochure and the price list and got the credit card canceled and the money refunded.. 4 months of this. I ended up filling a complaint and got the credit inquiry and history removed as fraud. At ZERO point could they produce the signed credit card application.. It was digitally signed with my name printed digitally. Here is how it happened.. To claim that prize they were offered, they had to give their SSN and sign papers. More than likely this was run by a 3rd party company who ONLY get paid when someone signs up, takes a LOC, etc.. they workers also get a commission. The 4 airline tickets were worth more then $600 so they needed to provide their SSN. These 3rd party companies know most people keep the CC and the LOC. This is a very common timeshare, LOC scam..
The Vacation Village Colonies at Williamsburg, VA saleswoman Jackie gave us "I'm not supposed to tell you this information" but if we were to hire her close, real estate, friend at Vacation Services International, he could easily sell our other timeshare with Westgate to pay for our purchase at Colonies. She said he could also sell our "bonus week" we would receive with a Colonies purchase to take care of the bill and the maintenance fee. We believed her. When confronting Colonies on these illegal practices, Colonies argues we had seven days to back out. They also argue that if we had informed the Closer that Jackie told us we could sell our Westgate easily, the Closer would have stopped the sale. Really? These people have broken Virginia law which forbids bait and switch tactics as well as fraud for profit tactics to make a sale.
We went to something similar 2 years ago and we unknowingly were signed up for a credit card that came in the mail and we called immediately to complain about this practice.
The timeshares my good friend has - they were little more than Motel 6, with poor upkeep and deteriorating door frames/baseboards. Have been to several that way. She frets about unused points -- all these tens of thousands of points. Part of the gimmick. My conclusion: You don't own the time share, it OWNS YOU.
They break you in that 5 hrs! They feed you. They try to act like they are your bff. It Happened to me when i was married. I tried to be the one who firmly said no. That didn’t work. I was grandfathered in. Took 2 years to get outta the contract and 12k later.
1:48 it's right there on the form they filled out, " Credit Authorization/Owner Information and their authorization for the Company to obtain their credit information is initialed right above the choice to not to authorize the company to obtain their credit information. If they're that confused on how the company obtained their Credit Information I have no confidence they didn't sign up for a PayPal line of credit and signed authorization to apply for a credit card. They both seem delightful down to earth people but come on, a little personal accountability please.
In 2005-2007 Countrywide mortgage officers used to forge mortgage docs by tracing over a signature against a window onto higher commission documents. Wells Fargo opened accounts people did not know about. Probably the same here.
Remember, if you happen to find yourself in one of these meetings, you are free to walk out. Just get up and walk out. Their job is to get your money. You owe them NOTHING.
We have a timeshare and while we do enjoy it, it’s only barely worth it with the annual fees. It was given to us by friends trying to get rid of it to avoid those annual costs. We paid zero for it and it’s still only barely worth it.

Wyndham did this to me. we have worldmark. they tried to do something similar. we contacted them and complained. they fixed it right away and we got lots of free stuff. mostly gift certificates to local restaurants and attractions. they are lucky we did not contact the fbi...we still enjoy our stays but we dont go to "owner presentations" anymore. its worth it if you travel a lot but they are salesmen, dont let them bully you.

just going to share this information. The Right of Rescission, Usually 7 to 10 days in Florida , yes you have the Right to Cancel your contract but you MUST do it in that time frame its usually on the back pages of your contract you have up to the last date of the allotted time to mail in your notices to Cancel the contract ...
If you just went to a timeshare presentation and signed the contract look through it you have the right to recission governed by the contract and the state you bought the timeshare...act fast...different states have different time periods from 3 to 10 to 14 days to cancel the timeshare from the date you signed it. You have to do it in writing and send certified mail return receipt plus send the owner packet or materials they gave you. Follow the contract instructions as to where to send the letter. The date you mail it out or time stamped by the US Postal service if it is in the rescission time period is what counts...then the company has to cancel and refund you your money. If you dont do it in time you are stuck and have to get a lawyer or go with timeshare exit team. Be careful these timeshare companies are sneaky they give you a more detailed contract and dont review it with you burried in these contracts are language that you waive your right to class action lawsuits etc... Rescission is the cooling off period that the federal government allows you as the buyer to change your mind I cant emphasize enough to read the contract and act immediately if you are in the rescission window to get out of your timeshare before it is too late!
But anyone smart enough to read and understand what you just wrote would never be dumb enough to fall for a timeshare scam. Right?.............. right??
Wyndham charged my credit card an additional $40 for not showing up to one of these meetings during a recent stay at one of their resorts, even after I told them I wasn't interested and was not going. At least I only got scammed out of 40 bucks.
Not a scam I mean the mad signed the contract he has 15 days to use his receipts to cancel also he was signing paperwork so the initial 90 minutes isn’t fully true he should said 120 minutes because that’s how long it takes but since he was signing paperwork and showing interest they can have him in longer because of the legal documents being signed
They had to have given them their social security numbers, something you would never do if buying a house or at all with a company you do not want to do business with.
I went to a hunting and fishing show and filled out every giveaway that I could. I was called and told I had won second prize on one entry. It was for a cruise. Total scam. I wound up calling State Attorney’s General’s office in Florida. They already had an ongoing investigation and I got all the money back that they took from me.
You dont sign things because someone tells you to. READ what you sign. DON'T sign if you dont understand. You need a handwriting expert to show forged document.
My dad used to go to these pitches because they would offer a free catered dinner. He would drag my mother along and she hated going. After 3 of these things she put her foot down and told him if he dragged her to another one she was gonna sign up for a timeshare. He never went again. I have a coworker who went to Disney with his wife and kids and got the plane there and home for free along with a dinner for the 4 of them to sit thru a 6 hour timeshare presentation. While there he won a three day cruise for 2.
I went to one of these presentations at the Polo Towers in Las Vegas. Three hours of hell and I didn't buy a single point. I walked out of there with a $50 gaming voucher and a $100 prepaid Visa card. I still wouldn't put myself through that ever again.
After watching this, I am convinced that there's at least a 51% chance that this wasn't a scam but the customer simply not understanding the details of a conversation.
That's how scams work. They deliberately and systematically take advantage of people's exhaustion and frustration to get to a point where they can plausibly claim that the victim agreed to things that they did not in fact agree to.
@@SJoelKatzI mean if its as simple as canceling it and it didnt cost him and money. If anything it would increase his credit rating using the line of credit as long ad he pays monthly.
@@SJoelKatz Okay... I've been to a number of those timeshare pitches from Wyndham, and walked out with just the gift, without purchasing anything. It was pretty straight forward and transparent. Maybe I was lucky and kept getting the honest ones.
What part of "This ain't how I sign my c's" don't you understand? Or "No, I don't make no $60,000!" Or "I can't write that small and no, I did not sign that." 51% that this wasn't a scam? THIS 100% WAS A SCAM.
I don’t believe that they didn’t know they were filling out for a Credit line it’s impossible. It clearly states on the paper this is a Credit line for PayPal. Sometimes people lie to get out of things the regret doing. Learn to say no very simple.
I want you to go through one of those Wyndham sales pitches and let me know if you were able to say no and leave right away. The 5 hours he mentioned is very true. We lost an entire day saying No after No to multiple people after a while you get tired and hungry and start actually listening to them. They kept promising us the world and made us think we will be investing in the holy grail. And we fell for the scam. Wyndham people are liars and scammers. They told my husband and I if we give them our info they will not run our credit, its just info they need upfront. And shocker they ran our credit. As of today, we are still paying for the bullsht that we have not been able to use a single day. Knowing what we went through with Wyndham, I believe every single word this guy is saying. because everything the Wyndham people sat on that chair and told us that day was complete lies. and getting you tired is their way to make you sign paperwork without you even knowing what you are signing
My dad was on the beach and time shsre people are always there. He came home saying he could win a stereo if he just went to hear the sales pitch. He went and came home with the stereo. He didn't play games and he wasn't scammed. I can only imagine what he told them.
I mean thought they were lying or at least knew somewhat but if you compare the c’s from paper he filled out to one he said he didn’t you can see difference
As soon as they admit to signing paperwork, I knew these two had no clue what they were doing. Yeah, I'm sure they were lied to for what it was for, but it was just intended as part of the pitch to get the time share signed off on. They didn't make enough money to afford the time share, so yes, they magically signed for two line of credit (to be maxed out) so that they could then get it. Makes me wonder how many times this scam worked. And people were just to embarrassed to address it afterwards.
Here in Sedona, Az the timeshare company opened a 'museum' downtown. Tourists go in to see the history of our city but it's just to lure them for the sales scheme. The city allowed this for 2 decades.
Have been a member of club Wyndham vacation for 12months and I will be doing a video shortly on the Good the Bad and the Ugly about Club Wyndham Vacations based on my experience.
So wait. I don't see a problem in the grand scheme of the thing. The "scammers" got them approved for a $15,000 line of credit. How is that bad? They didn't sell them anything, so there's no debt. And with an additional 15,000 available, but unused. It actually brings their credit score up. And if they ever need it in an emergency, they got it. Please, someone explain.
Opening a new line of credit can be a soft inquiry or hard. Which can spike your credit score for a small time. Also the terms and agreements of the card could have hidden penalties which is how they made money otherwise why would they have enrolled them?
@@TheBubbRubb Hidden fees or penalties are a completely different story, but there's no mention of that here. For that much money, it'll most likely be a hard inquiry. A soft is irrelevant and even a hard doesn't really last that long or make that much of a difference. Especially if you're approved and it remains unused. I really don't see any catastrophe here. The real catastrophe would have been if they actually bought a timeshare. It's definitely a questionable practice though. EDIT. I double checked Paypal's ToS. There is no sign up and no annual maintenance fees. It's free to keep, unless you start using it.
@@TheBubbRubb It is definitely a BAD practice. But in no way were these people "scammed" into any debt. At 1:05 he claims "Ah cain't afford dat!". There is nothing to afford. He got a free line of credit through two reputable companies, Paypal and Synchrony Bank. Synchrony is huge. They underwrite credit for JC Penny, QVC, BestBuy, Paypal and countless other retailers. Nothing scammy about them. It won't cost him anything unless he uses it. If he uses it wisely, it's a great tool to have. Wyndham probably did him a favor. And I know exactly what happened here. The salespeople talked him into signing an instant approval application, just so they know whether or not they should waste their time trying to sell him. He said they weren't buying anything. But no one walks into these things a buyer. It's up to salespeople to sell them. Pre-approval is a great selling tool. "Hey, we got you approved for $15 thousand dollars. You can get the best one!". Car dealerships do this kind of thing too. People hit a half dozen dealerships in a weekend looking for a car. A week later they find out their credit score is all dinged up from inquiries. A lot of dealerships use a credit app as a customer contact (up) sheet (I was a car salesman).
...idk why wouldn’t they ask for copies of everything they sign?? I always ask if I can get a copy too. I like business that offer to make me copy or have copy for me. Once when I was at the dealer, I told them I was gonna go for my bank’s loan. We sort out everything and I was taken to the finance office. Got there and the guy handled me a long sheet of paper, asking me to sign. I glanced at it and asked what it was. He said, it was to accept their bank’s loan since it offer a lower APR. He probably expected me to blindly sign it. I immediately said no, I already decided on my bank loan. He made a rude comment that I didn’t bother to reply back to. I was young and naive when I bought my first car - but at least I read everything I am gonna sign my name on and they were professional enough to give me copies!!
I don't understand. If someone gets a line of credit, but doesn't use it. How is that bad? Used responsibly, Having a line of credit with a reputable company like PayPal is a great thing in case of emergencies. And if you don't use it. Just having it available, brings your credit score up.
My wife and I purchased a timeshare from Fairfield Resorts (now Wyndham) back in 2002. I realize that many people have got into a timeshare, and wished they didn't. I know this may be hard for many of you to believe. But, we have loved using this every year. Now, if you like the concept of owning (We were not aware of this when we bought) but, feel the price is to high, buy on the secondary market. Ebay has great listings. Just do not buy into fixed weeks. Only consider points that lets you remain flexible. But, keep in mine, you will still pay yearly fees. To let you know that this is possible, my son has a tiimshare that can be used in various places. One of the locations is at Lake Tahoe. He paid less than thirty dollars for a one bedroom, but does pay his yearly fees like any other owner. If you are really interested, look into magazines that teach about the secondary markets.
We went to Branson the week of the eclipse. Then we drove to Arkansas to see the eclipse. While in Branson for 4 days these people from various companies were approaching us everywhere. Free shows, blah blah blah. They were at booths at at least 5 places we went to. I learned to walk into a venue or grocery store and stare straight ahead and ignore the heckling calls from the people in the booths saying, " come over here, talk to us, we have a deal for you,". We hadn't been to Branson since 2016 and I don't remember there being so many of these booths around town. They sure were everywhere we went this trip. We were almost going to go to one presentation and they said sit thru the presentation and they would give us a $100 visa gift card. I expected a plastic gift card. Digging for answers, they told me it was a $100 virtual credit on my phone. I told them I can't deal with all this virtual stuff and walked away.
My wife got a job with Wyndham selling timeshares. First day of training she walked out after 2 hours. She said she would never need money so bad that she would lie and cheat people.
3:20 They did. She said they entered a drawing for a range Rover by Wyndham at the mall. Guess what they do with all that information you willingly give up

At the end of the news cast, they said they were there 3 hours ..
Which is it?
The income is 60,000 on the application
They openly admitted they didn't make that $$
But, the qualifications clearly say combined income of 60k or more, so they lied to take the presentation to get free shit.

You're assuming there aren't fees on the credit line@@Kewrock

This news channel did a bad job concealing these folks personal information on these documents. I know where they live, their phone number, and where they work because the news was lazy. However, look at how he writes "6" in his phone number vs. the "6" in "$60,000". They are completely different.
I hope you were compensated with a gift for your time.
U said it perfectly. Same as our experience.guy stopped us on our vacation and promised free tickets to shows if we only had 1hr of his time. We felt so degraded in the end.

What a joke. They had to fill out paperwork. Nice scapegoat. Wasn’t me. Yeah ok 😂
Even if they didn't fill out the paperwork. They had to have given their social security number. You can't still someone's identity without it.
Surely the cops would be able to establish that the paperwork was forged and arrest those corporate thugs
cops never investigate this..
We went to something similar 2 years ago and we unknowingly were signed up for a credit card that came in the mail and we called immediately to complain about this practice.

The Right of Rescission,
Usually 7 to 10 days in Florida , yes you have the Right to Cancel your contract but you MUST do it in that time frame its usually on the back pages of your contract you have up to the last date of the allotted time to mail in your notices to Cancel the contract ...
Next thing you know Old Jeb's a millionaire, in debt.
First mistake was going to a timeshare presentation in the first place. Duh
Rescission is the cooling off period that the federal government allows you as the buyer to change your mind
I cant emphasize enough to read the contract and act immediately if you are in the rescission window to get out of your timeshare before it is too late!
I was going to say the same thing you have a certain amount of time to cancel . we've bought timeshares and kept and we've also canceled before.

Total scam.

@kewrock well hopefully you get scammers to open a line of credit for you then good luck

I know this seems ridiculous but my firm has delt with 100s of elderly families that had taken lines of credit from 5k to 50k without their knowledge
