    I love the "peeking into rooms" concept! It's part of the Heroic Skills from AxianQuest and it's by far one of my favorites because it adds so much more to a player's abilities.
    I also like the idea of rolling a die whenever a door is spawned on a map, and on a 6 it's a double door. That way there's randomly additional doors to contend with!

    4:30 That sounds like a great special ability for the dwarf: Trying to peek into the room. Skull means the attempt failed (was not possible; maybe a good maintained door), on a white shield, he may have found a crack and was able to get an unnoticed peek, on a black shield, the attempt was noticed by any monsters and the door opens.

    So I am trying to make sure I rewatch/watch all of your awesome stuff. Trying to make sure to appease the RUclips gods and all that.
    But I have to say, the roll for door is brilliant!! Simple enough to give the game a smidge more "umph". But not making it craxy complicated. Again brilliant!!

    Roll initiative when the door opens.
    Sprinkle in some rooms where the monsters can open doors - maybe monsters in corridors can call for help, activating nearby rooms - or when one door is opened other doors to nearby rooms open at the same time - or a new trap that sounds an alarm and activates a particular room.
    Give monsters ranged weapons / spells so the hero in the doorway is vulnerable to attack and monsters do not need to play his game to attack through the door.
    Pit trap on the space in front of the door that activates when the door is opened - dropping the lead hero into a pit - then allow monsters to jump over the pitted hero and into the corridor / room beyond.
    So many options, just depends how devious Zargon is.

    I use no doors and went with the HGTV rules of a the open room concept! Heros never won a quest, but my Dungeon home value did go up!

    ABSOLUTELY NO COMBAT Thru Doorways!!! Simple, Super Effective!
    Best House Rule Against Superheroes, At the beginning of the encounter Zargon rolls 1 Combat Die. If it's a Black Shield 🛡️ Monster's Go First! 🤯

    The door is an illusion.
    I like the idea of roll the die to see what happens. I've been using the diagonal attack option to any creature using a two handed/large weapon for a while and it works.
    Another option is introducing initiative. At the start of a turn, or as creatures are found by opening a door, the initiative is based on current movement. The creatures are already set, so goblins may be attacking as soon as the door opens, the heroes are based on what they roll. So a spells such as slow, freeze, etc have a dual purpose.

    Barred doors. The monsters see the heroes at the door, don't get closer, have bows. The heroes are forced to come in.

    Omg those little tweaks to the skeleton and goblin are brilliant! I just want something special that makes any creature a threat, instead of "if you roll 2 skulls against this goblin, it's automatically dead" and it didn't pose much of a threat to begin with.

    Think the idea of giving the “weakest*”monsters a edge like the goblin and skeleton is a great idea from avalon hill . Think i will use them to make hero’s rethink their tactics
    ( * we all know skeletons and goblins are the coolest and bad ass monsters of Heroquest and other games)

    We use a similar rule to your atk die but only the rogue or elf can attempt to sneak a peak inside a room. We use a d20 for the roll, with a 7 or higher being a success.

      Well, mind points aren't used very much in the game system. There are some very situational instances with certain spells that tell you how to work with them, but the expansions use them a bit more!

    Nothing says a monster has to attack when it sees a hero. have them wait or position them so they make a kill pocket at the door. they can also move out of LoS to the side of the room. In short make the heroes come to them.
