We live in a very very windy area our tree is 2 years old and keeps falling over (4 times we have had it staked) you mention only leave a tree staked for one year, what shouldvqe do?
Trees can take a few yrs for true establishment roots to settle in and secure your trees place in a windy area. You may have to re-stake with new tension placements every spring...
