She got honorably discharged, tried to get help for her hearing and they denied coverage. Healthcare isn't a thing in the military, at least once you leave...even if the wound was afflicted while serving your country.
@@myTERAexperience I was in the Army. I had a hernia. No real problems with it after that. But they were insistent that I had a 0% disability (which is just a placeholder designation which lets you go the the VA if need be if there is a problem with it later on). My brother in law was wounded twice (TBIs). He is 100% disabled and gets over a grand every month on top of getting basically 4 years of college tuition /vocational training plus the GI Bill and ARMY College fund for 36 months. He’s a medical equipment sales rep now, and before that he was a radiology tech. I did know a guy who was in artillery and had bad hearing while he was still in who retired after 25 years anyway, and got disability.
So I’m assuming the problem there was she didn’t do enough at the right time to make a disability claim. Of course, that’s not on her. People shouldn’t be expected to jump through precisely the right hoops when they are still in or out processing. It’s not as if your needs are anyone else’s top priority. But it makes it a lot harder if you raise your hand years later saying that you have a service-related disability you never claimed say within a year of getting out. At that point you need a good lawyer possibly. So if you do get a good lawyer and still get denied and such then I can definitely see why that would piss you off. But if not, well you need to do that. I mean what do people expect from a notorious bureaucracy?

Our major holdups are stagnation and division within the system. But we are lucky to have a system that can be manipulated by its republic, period.

I recently read an article where a school board in Wisconsin opted out of free lunches (for every student despite family income) because they didn't want children to be "spoiled" and "become addicted" to free meals. Like, if we're supposed to be the "wealthiest and most powerful country in the world" (/sarcasm if that wasn't clear) then why is the concept of ending child hunger and food disparity such a horrific thing?
They'd be doing a lot better in the DPRK if we just ended the draconian sanctions we have against them.

I'm from South Africa. I don't worship America. I would never move there. I love my homeland. Americans always seem to forget that the people who they hear loving America are the people who moved to it. Most of the world has zero inclination to live there.

You could literally also take the same argument of "go fly somewhere and visit the rest of the world" and apply it to the other first world countries and hear how most countries have universal healthcare, subsidized housing, community programs, well funded schools. We have No excuse to be this far behind. I've been to Germany and that entire country is beautiful. There's no rushing around, people just enjoy the pace they go at, they can TRAVEL because most jobs there offer abundant vacation time. God even acknowledging the "go see other countries" goes against the blatant problem that people can't even afford housing.

I had the same reaction to this as you. I was so disappointed in this monologue. I was like what does any of this have to do with the nightmare in Afghanistan!? What does this have to do with the over 2 trillion dollars we spent there for nothing? It was absolutely awful.

As a Colorado resident, the whole California water thing triggered me the most. We are going through an 11 year drought with 40 million people relying on our alpine snowmelt for drinking water. The western states are no better than the middle east in our tension over water rights.

You really do have to pick and choose what you're willing to support.
Except, statements like 1 in 10 households in the US are food insecure, isn't something with "sides", it is a factual statement, therefore the truth. Now, you can chose to vilify the people, for being lazy or unsuccessful, or recognize the socio economic afflictions that make them not have a stable source of income, housing, which ultimately leads them to struggle. And the acknowledgement of those issues is often ignored by conservatives.
@@tomribei I'm not talking about the facts. I'm talking about how we interpret them or arrive at solutions. In your case, we can vilify them or prop them up, sure. There are merits to both side of this case. And to simply say we have the right answer because we chose the right team is just silly, conservatives and liberals both are at fault for this. Almost nothing fits neatly into any box or political leaning.
What is the solution to end hunger in America? Is it just to vote a certain way in the booth? Will that fix it? If we all just pitch in to build grocery stores will that fix it? If we chastise them to do something for themselves will that fix it? From where I'm standing, there is no one right answer. Hell, there's not even a good answer. But by all means, point your finger at the other and kick the wedge further. I'm sure it will help.

I really agree here how Hasan just kinda flips the script -- where when Conservatives bitch about 'Cancel Culture' which we could have a discussion on, there are countries "who actually have problems". But this could be used or ANYTHING, hell, even with COVID, "You complain about wearing a mask, shit what about people who have died from COVID, you should be thankful", or what is oftentimes said about COVID, "Well that's not my problem, why should I have to do something to keep you safe?" Would it be a healthy response to just say, "Hey! I'm not being silenced, that's on you."?
But I do think in some instances, some people on the Left do need some perspective. But I would argue that the "Fuck America" mentality on the Left is more just a reaction to the Right being so adamant about blind, over the top patriotism, NOW being for "Free-Speech absolutism" but then when it comes to Flag burning, kneeling for The Anthem, and being critical of Christianity. There are many in this country who have it fucking amazing and I think being thankful about that is a good thing, I shit on America a ton but overall, I am thankful for the life I have here, but that doesn't mean its incapable of being criticized, and meeting every criticism of America or the concept of American exceptionalism with "Well you could have it worse because of X country's situation" is just a circular game of "well, what about.... X". There should be a fine line between blindly hating and loving America and being appreciative and critical of America.
By the way, nothing is more embarrassing than bringing paid people to laugh at your jokes
