Has anyone ever told you that you might be the best DIY gaming terrain RUclipsr out there?
lol no sir, but thank you for the sentiment.
I’m going to have to agree, your videos are calming the way bob ross used to be and the product ends up gorgeous.
You could put a cloth drapery over the door on the larger shack for the npc to walk through, rather than just having it open.
Thanks for getting specific on the beads for the potions. I have seen this approach but couldn't find anything at hobby lobby that would work (which is weird). There's a Michaels literally next door to it so I'll stroll over there next time I'm in the neighborhood. Cheers!
Hobby Lobby has some crafty things you have to work on, but mostly has items pretty much already finished. Michael's is the place these days to get the basic components to make things yourself. Hobby Lobby has really grown more into a retail decor store.
Nice, "NPC, they're people too and need a lively hood." Love it!!
Hey Wyloch! I was wondering if, since you posted this video five years ago, you have discovered a faster way to paint the planks? I was thinking a base coat of black spray paint maybe to cut the time by a considerable amount, but I'm not sure if that would stink up my crafting room even if I did it outside and waited for the planks to dry. Any thoughts or ideas?
I have not - I think basing them in black with a good old fashioned brush will be just as fast as spraying, it takes about 8 seconds per plank.
I'd love to see your take on how to do a blacksmith shop!
I remember first finding this video last June and using it to construct a simple 3D prop for practice. I'm now getting into the hobby of actually making these things for games and tabletop, so let me just share my appreciation for your work. One thing I am modifying is making the interior shelves separate from the shack (I'm planning a series of these with quick themed setups using a separate piece that fits inside the shack and gives it a simple floor like a carpet or light stonework). Again, thanks for all your videos and I can't wait to get started on more projects.
Awesome, thanks!
And now I know what to do with those damn sticks. Thank you, my lord.
I really enjoy your videos and your unique crafting style. I have made several of your items and think they are great! I just started my own RUclips channel and would love for you to take a look and tell me what you think of the early content. Subscribe and share if you approve. I hope to give back to the gaming community at least half as much as it has given to me. Thanks for your videos.
Great stuff. I like how the beads can be used to represent various potions for the venue.
You just gave me an idea for a series of booths at a midway in a haunted carnival.
Hello potion seller, I'm going into battle and I want your strongest potions.
WOW !!! medieval corrugated metal sheet roofs :-D they were so advanced in these days :-P
What I like to do is take pulp from coffee beans and lay the wood in it. It'll look old and worn after a night (or 2)
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for sharing! I'll have to pass this link to my eldest son, who is the one who originally introduced me to D&D! Blessings of love and light to all!🙏💜🙏💙🙏🧡🙏💛🙏💚🙏
of all the great ideas in your videos, one of the coolest things that stand out to me is how you base and flock your paper minis. Thats a fantastic idea; they look great like that.
You can no longer buy the Cousins Rainbow beads anymore. Michaels discontinued them and you cant buy the same style of beads. And the beads that Michaels or Hobby Lobby suck.
Unless you know of another company that carries these beads I can not find them in my area?
Have you tried a red paint to simulate the hacienda look? Maybe show lines for each tile? Wonderful channel, Wyloch, you are a rock in this crapstorm of today, keep crafting!
Ah, the books could be potion recipes!
I'm not sure corrugated tin roofs should be a thing in a medieval setting, like D&D usually is. Great video though.
Can you show how to make a tea cup and kettle, and a garden like in Harry Potter. When Harry had to pull the mandrake out of the pot in the second book? There is a Harry Potter miniature game.
Hi! I’m just getting into crafting and I’m building for rise of the runelords. I thought a potion shack would be great for the dovetail festival! It took me about 5 hours. Really enjoyed the process. It’s an exercise in patience. Very rewarding!
If you enjoy crafting, make sure to join The Tabletop Crafters Guild group on facebook. It is a welcoming community with TONS of inspiration. You'll love it. Tell em I sent ya.
I like your vids and your techniques so far. The one thing that bothers me is your representations of the shed, the roof, and the bizarre buildings is that they look far too advanced in construction for the dark ages, middle ages and potentially, the renaissance eras. Large tin or corrugated steel roofs don't come along for quite a time yet. Blacksmiths were still making smaller pieces of metal that could be handled by an apprentice or two at the largest sizes. I don't think whole roofs would be made of this expensive metal.
Certainly you can call upon magic to protect their wares, but I think the sheds should have a covering for them to give the vendor some privacy after hours. IDK--to each their own, I suppose.
13thBear Indeed! My D&D worlds are totally unrelated to this one. Thanks for watching!
Where did you get your detail glue gun I can't find a good one that works well. Thanks!
Belles1fan At a garage sale, for 25 cents. What do you mean it doesn't work well? Perhaps you're not waiting long enough for it to get hot? Or maybe it's a low-heat gun...there are two standard temperatures for hot glue...mine is High Temp.
My potions are too strong for you, traveler.
Awesome! Looks spectacular! Not sure how I feel about the medieval sheet metal but it's fantasy so anything is possible. Really dug this one. Kudos thanks.
Same idea, paint it terra cotta and makes spanish-style clay ala haciendas
I like your vidz and your tiles system!
Thanks!
Cool idea with the bottles. Not to sound like a troll here but did we have couriorgated sheet steel in the dark ages?
Your games must be sooooo fucking sic dude. I watch your videos and you make the coolest shit ever.
Thanks!
Is anybody familiar with a book with tutorials like this?
I'm so using this on my mordheim board. thanks!
He sounds like the guy from how it’s made.
Nice look to them think for the roof cardstock with hotglue dragged could make a nice thatched roof look. Or if using the single coragated like you did use terracotta for a tiled roof. Lot of ways you can go with this.
Learned how to make cool planks from this video as well as potion vendor. Thanks
p.s. What step do you remove the tape?
GeneralKetchup57 You remove the tape as soon as the cross-beam is glued in place.
I just want to say that this is the MOST frustrating thing I have ever done lol.
Just the wood prep. The burnt umber just fills in the da... fu... stupid “cracks” I made with the chisel :’(
Are you swiping against the grain, not along the stick? Too much paint? Pressing too hard?
Oh I’m just venting. I’ve never done this before. I am going against the grain.
So I am assuming it’s a combination of too much paint, then not enough, then pressing too hard, then pressing too light.
I’m a total novice so I am absolutely aware it is 100% my fault lol
you could lay a plank on top of the front wall as a 'counter'
Can you do a video about a DIY Palisade wall (with parapet)?
woww!!!!!!!! es genial, me ha encantado, eres muy bueno, gracias por compartir
Super video. I just made my own potion vendor tonight complete with scrolls and books. Not quite up to snuff with yours and I opted for a larger one kind of like your first one. Thanks for the ideas and inspiration! I know the group I play with will flip for it.
Cool! be sure and post pics on Dm Scotty's facebook group for us!
Thanks for the video I'M wondering what's next can't waight to see. I found your video's through DM Scotty you both do nice work............James
+Ezy_ Money Thanks!
Corrugated iron was invented in the 1820s, so it's use as a roof in a fantasy shack is a little anachronistic (if you care about such things). Looks great though.
Thanks! (yes, my D&D games do not take place on Earth ;-) )
Wow Wyloch, totally blown away man. Such awesome work, great job brotha. Definitely gonna try and make one of these
Thx!
Great stuff. Thanks. Your bazaar looks very cool.
How long do you wait for drying
Subscribed. I'm gonna watch them all, like 'em all, and share a few on FB from time to time.
Thanks! Much appreciated.
This is awesome, great craftmanship! May I ask where do you get your flat Characters? Are they premade with base and all or did you do them yourself? They are looking great and I'm looking for heroes and enemies (for d&d). Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks. No they are 100% from scratch, except for finding the art with google image. Episode 10 or 11 will be a tutorial on how I make them.
Wyloch's Crafting Vids Nice! I'm looking forward to it :)
awesome video. thanks for sharing !!!
how long should the planks dry before adding more colors?
Should be bone dry to the touch.
Wyloch's Crafting Vids thank you! :)
nice job, the end result is awesome
LOL that gem vendor found a giant topaz
Love these classics
That angle cut idea! Genius.
thats so cool....
Very nice!
So awesome! thank you! I'll be making one soon.
Jennifer Gwinn Be sure to post a pic
Awesome!
Looks great
This is really neat and looks great. However, corrugated steel was invented in 1829, so it's not really appropriate for Medieval fantasy unless it's also steampunk. It probably should be cedar shakes.
Ah yes, would be true enough, if one's D&D sessions took place on Earth! Mine do not.
I was thinking -- for the safety of your fingers -- that the gouging can be done after you glue the pieces together. But you're using a different gluing method.
A metallic, corrugated roof is a little too modern for my games. But I like the finished product.
I am not getting this. I have tried over and over to replicate these planks and I can’t. How do I do this? I have all the right paints and materials. What am I doing wrong?
Very coincidentally, I revisited the wood plank technique in my most recent episode. It is much clearer video, with close-up commentary. Check it out:
