I knew you were going say the Pat McGrath palettes aren't worth it. I have never paid full price. I don't just use it for my eyes. I truly use it as a palette for face. I get blush, highlight, AND an eyeshadow look out of one palette. That's how I get my money's worth. The goal is to hit pan. ALWAYS HIT PAN!

There is this cream my great grand aunt used to swear off, it is cheap, smell like granny, save my skin when things are rough, people laugh of it but if I do not have for fancy creams I am loyal to my "Pomada de la campana by Dr. Bell" wich main ingredient is petroleum, and if I am fancy I bought the one with "Tepezcohuite" fragance. It is cheap, it works and my great gran aunt had a baby skin at her 70s so it should work.

I love the dior blush. There's a reason why it's not super pigmented as it provides a really beautiful flush and prevents you looking like a clown. It also develops differently on every skin tone which makes them so universal. I personally couldn't find anything comparable. But again this is my personal opinion.

Marlena, I no longer buy high end makeup or skincare. When I had to stop working due to health issues, I gave myself a year to find more affordable products. RUclips was such a resource for me,and I watched many videos on "the best" affordable products. I'm happy to say that my makeup and skincare collection is all affordable now. Mixing foundations to get the perfect formula and shade has been a huge game changer for me as well. Thank you SO much for sharing your wealth of knowledge with us!!!
I have mature skin, and I need a lot of moisture. I've been using the Eucerin Advanced Repair Cream. I’m not gonna lie, I was swept into the Dior blush trend. I definitely regretted that purchase because the blush is unbelievably dry. The Patrick Ta blushes are leaps and bounds better than that blush….even the L’Oreal infallible blushes are better than that blush. I am so glad and refreshed to see someone who doesn’t just show off a product to make money. So many influencers rave and tout products for a company and they don’t even care for said product. It’s always about the money, not if the product is actually good quality or value for the price. Thanks for keeping it real in this crazy beauty world!!

A little rebuttal on the Patrick Ta blush: I'd like to see data that Ta's powder & cream layering lasts significantly longer or is noticeably better in some way, before I congratulate him for his well priced package. He created a trend in order to sell that product, so it's not necessarily a good value - if there's no real need or benefit for layering, then he's just tricking us in order to sell more.

I then looked at the ingredients and "mineral oil" was high on the list. Tatcha is an American brand, "inspired" by Japanese culture (or rather an appropriated version of it). It is formulated in Tokyo ( intentional marketing misdirection, as formulated does not mean manufactured), but not actually sold in Japan, so they don't really have to adhere to Japanese skincare standards. All that being said, I do think Tatcha products are generally good, but not worth the high price tag for me.

I wasn’t planning on buying the Dior blush, but have been looking for a new blush and inevitably got sucked into the hype of the Dior blush. I was watching everyone lose their mind over this blush - yes, the colors are gorgeous, but I keep thinking to myself how DUSTY those blushes looked. The component is not a stretch for Maybelline or Cover Girl and I’m not shading those brands, it’s not a $40 blush and my mid-40’s perimenopausal cheeks do not need dusty blush.
I was looking at the Merit blush stick, but I’m glad you mentioned the Patrick Ta. I think I’m going to go with that one. Since I plan to spend $30-$40 on a new blush, I was concerned with committing to a single color or formula. I’m not skilled with cream blush but want to try it - I’m a powder product girl at heart. Unless it’s dusty like that Dior. I like the option of a cream and security blanket powder for $36.

This was so cool. I already had suspensions on these products about like what they put into the packaging. Like every time I buy a product, I think about how much they spent to make it I'm sure we all do. Tho it's not just about the packaging. If the product works like it says it will, then that's what really counts. Having nice packaging is always a bonus. I mean, who doesn't love amazing fancy packaging? I sure do lmbo. Also at the same time I do not like and won't buy something I know a brand is being shady about or is bs. Like sayin somethings a miracle bc of an ingredient and it's so far down the list or not on there at all is a no no for me.

Thank you for the video, dear Marlena. I agree with you on all, except the DIOR blushes. For me they are the best powder blushes, the colors are beautiful and they last the whole day without any change. I love them, but maybe it’s because of a good chemical reaction with my skin?

I've seen the La Prairie foundation packaging again, Aldi Australia released their Lacura foundation (budget pricing) with exactly the same jar with paddle and concealer on top. Packaging patents can be applied for to run for shorter time periods than formulation patents. Once it runs out, if the company doesn't reapply, it can be used anywhere, or duplicated with the slightest adjustment so its not an exact copy.

Paula’s Choice 50 spf sunscreen moisturizer isn’t super pricey but I indulge myself.. it mixes great w tinted physical 50 spf to create a very light tinted moisturizer. If I want more coverage I add MAC face and body, or another liquid foundation, or I’ll put Monika Blunder cream foundation on top.. that’s $50 I will spend.. lasts forever.

Hi Marlena! Thank you for sharing your honest and educated (educating) opinions. I agree with you 100%, but as a person in her 6th decade, who has had rosacea for 30+ years, I do admit to liking the La Mer soft cream for the simple fact that it is the only cream I can use when my skin is irritated, especially after doing winter sports or even just going for walks outside when it’s cold and windy. This cream beats out everything else I have tried over 25 years, including creams designed for eczema (and including Tatcha’s repair cream). The soft cream has a thinner and smoother texture than the regular cream (ingredient list differs) and it spreads effortlessly on irritated skin. I would recommend trying a (free) sample (that’s how I discovered this cream) to anyone who has mature, sensitive and ‘irritable’ skin, and who has not had success with other creams and lotions, including products recommended by their dermatologist.
