You are absolutely right. Dimash knows very well which things a song requires. He doesn’t need to do vocal acrobatics all the time. There are very rare moments on video where you can get a glimps of how Dimash is working on songs. He isn’t only a singer. He is a true musician: singing, playing several instruments, composing songs, arranging songs. He got the full package. He also has some good acting skills which support his stage presence and performance or his musicvideos like the MV to Be with me.

I saw a competition or something that Dimash was on when one of the judges told him, "We already know what you can do, you don't have to show us everything in one song." But in a lot of his competition songs he does put in extra vocal acrobatics (in a way that I think fits the song nicely) because he needs to show what he is capable of. I agree with you that Dimash uses his amazing notes to either show the emotion of the song or to just make it more beautiful. I figure if it's not showing off for someone with two octaves to use all of their notes, it's not showing off for Dimash to use all of his. And he has said himself when asked about his vocal range that it's not how many octaves he can sing that's important, it's being able to sing beautifully and convey a message.

A lot of people complain because Dimash doesn't always bring those high notes or the power. He has some beautiful songs done in the early days in China that could literally be sung by anyone but the beautiful tone to his voice raises it to another level. You are correct that Dimash knows what he's doing and he would not do anything to just 'show off'.He's not like that, he's humble but confident.Everything song seems to be just right, artistically and musically.
He already has the ability to do a great metal scream and uses it occasionally. You can certainly hear that in his cover of Queens The Show Must Go On from the 2017 competition show Singer and in the Queen medley, Forever Queen, with the Super Vocal Boys which you can find on Facebook, it is not available on RUclips. There are others that the Dears can probably help with that are escaping me right now.

I would prefer the MV, which is a masterpiece in many ways. The digital concert version has some cool visual effects though and his energy is of course great (I guess the audio might be the same in both).

Sometimes because it is a competition and he has to include things, sometimes just for fun because it is fun to do and his fans get a kick out of it. Some reacters say he is showing off. I say, Bring it on, Dimash! In Opera 2 he does the "wind" notes several steps higher than the original singer. Not necessary, but crazy good, and the crowd loved it!

Others probably said this already, but he can do "unclean" notes as well. He doesn't do that often, but he can. Also, he has such diverse music, not just lyrical classy stuff. He's got very complex big songs, but very simple pop or song folks as well. Most of his music is incredibly beautiful, be it simple or super heavy stuff. I also think that the fact that he has such a clean refined base sound, allows him to build everything he wants on it and play with various type of sounds and genres. That's why it sounds so good, even id he add lots of breath, or grit, or mix nasality, or operating tenor/baritone warmth. The base sound is solid and well-developed. The good technique is there like an instinct, at this point, no matter what he sings.
Dimash has a song that's just vocals, no words. He just goes with the music, the high notes and runs he puts in are always meaningful. It is different each time he performs it.
