Even in baseball that country loves to cheat. But, their KARMA came too soon when they lost to MEXICO after that game. And Japan advance to semis, and becomes the World Champion. Imagine, that was almost 17 Years ago. And yesterday during the WBC 2023 they lost again to the same team, who eliminated them 17 years ago. VIVA MEXICO!
Did I root for team usa? yes. Was it a bad call? Absolutely. Japan was screwed. But if I remember correctly, Japan ended up winning the WBBC that year.
Took 2 oldest nieces and nephew to this game. Sat in right-field section not anticipation anything and just take in game and atmosphere. Then, surprisingly, Ichiro hits a drive that cleared right-field fence. Ball bounced amongst crowd sitting in our area and ended up under seat below us. From excitement, I dove down, dark top with white-stripped sleeves/CSUF dark hat, and corralled ball in my glove, nacho cheese splattered on my jacket. Another tried swipe it out of my glove but was securely tight in glove. After, same person offered but ball for $500. Asked niece and she declined. Japanese reporter came by and took a photo of her with ball. Still have stored with other memorabilia I've built her. We've had intentions return it to Ichiro for his museum but difficult connecting with him. A lasting memory we have always cherished.
Doesn't mean anything. I'm Japanese. I drove to San Diego to watch Japan play from LA. I flew to Seattle to see them play a warmup game. Japanese will travel to wherever the game is to watch. That's how it is. The noise is louder because in almost every country that has baseball except America, the atmosphere is crazy and lively. Not knocking American baseball. I'm a long time baseball season ticket holder, but unless it's the playoffs or crazy game, it's pretty much silent game at the park.
@@masarunakano459 the percentage of Americans that care about baseball is disturbingly low. Somehow that number drops lower when it comes to international competition.
This video was superb.... until it came up to the play where Bob Davidson took a run away from Japan. You have to be honest, that play wasn't controversial because it was close, it was controversial because it wasn't even close! Please be honest, how could the home umpire overturn the call of the third base judge? You know Davidson couldn't have seen the play from home whereas the other judge was right next to 3rd base. Don't take me wrong. I don't hold a grudge against this play, I hold one against people who do not acknowledge that it wasn't even close! Otherwise, it was a good game.
Always a pleasure to watch a prime Ichiro
It was absolutely safe at that time. There is no doubt that it is a misjudgment.

That call must've seemed so biased to the Japanese. It's unfortunate it happened the way it did.
and even then, Japan eventually won the series.
