I'm a lifelong Angels fan... and that last AB could have gone either way, and it still would have been a perfect ending, in my eyes. I just hope that this is finally the year that Sho and Mike get to the playoffs together. Here's to a healthy halo lineup in 2023, and hoping the depth we added to our roster keeps us in the hunt down the stretch. Fingers crossed

What the world learned from this game and one of the amazing sports tournament ever in World Baseball Classic 2023, is that Japan has such a strong team that is built on discipline, good fundamentals on both hitting and pitching. Baseball (and basketball too) is a globally famous sport that originated in the USA, so the allure of the league and the rich history draws the athletes from various parts of the world, but the other leagues outside of US are catching up, just as competitive and talented like the players in MLB. Japan beating the line-up of MVPs and multi-MLB All Stars, the days of thinking that Japanese Professional Baseball is like a triple-A level are over. Japanese Professional Baseball is like the European League equivalent of NBA.
Except unlike the nba, mlb doesn’t take the other countries seriously and send their best players to the wbc. In fact, many mlb teams forbid their players to do or limit their actions

I'm Japanese so I'm happy that Japan won. But I am a fan of both Ohtani and Trout, so I was both happy and sad when either of them won. I will never forget the fact that I was able to witness the confrontation between the two, which I had dreamed of long before the WBC was held. I will forever be grateful to all the members and the gods of baseball who made this miraculous showdown possible.
Also with the previous pitch being a ball in the dirt where it looked like Shohei was trying for a slider and hooked it too hard, it would have been easy for him to chicken out and go back to the fastball that beat Trout twice (but no guarantee of a third time). Instead he went for the slider again and nailed it. As we say in Japan, a heart of iron.
