My parents were scammed out of $3000. My Mom almost got taken for $20,000 but fortunately the bank folks knew her ( small town) and they convinced her it was a scam and they called the police. FedEx came to her house to pick up the package. She was in early stages of dementia, they are scum.

Your voice is so nice, you know...." side note, why is it so common for these scammers to say things like this? "Can I be your boyfriend, I'd love to see what you look like, you sound so pretty, I love you" etc. It seems very odd how frequently they leap to stuff like this.
They do this in hope that you may find them nice and sweet and then can build a rapport with them. If they can successfully build some form of a relationship with you, you then in turn become a long term target for them who they can exploit. That's why they also say things such as "I am like your son", "I am like your grandson". It's all BS to harbour some relationship so that they can exploit the person. These people are pure scum.

Gina Harrison my gma was in the early stages of dementia. Someone called her and told her she won the lottery but had to pay taxes on it to collect it. We think she did a wire transfer. Once she fell for that we think they likely called again and again until my aunt realized what was going on. unfortunately once my aunt (who is older herself and doesn’t use the internet etc) grasped what was going on that money was long gone. We did notify law enforcement and the postal inspector but there was really no recourse.

that was supposed to be place holder text and was meant to be substituted for the name of any actual company, but was just left in the script as is. "You know we're not from Microsoft," or "You know we're not from Google."

They do this in hope that you may find them nice and sweet and then can build a rapport with them. If they can successfully build some form of a relationship with you, you then in turn become a long term target for them who they can exploit. That's why they also say things such as "I am like your son", "I am like your grandson". It's all BS to harbour some relationship so that they can exploit the person. These people are pure scum.
Downtown Texas is where the Golden Gate Bridge is. It's a beautiful bridge to ride my bicycle over and see the Mississippi river. We love downtown Texas. I was born there.

Gina Harrison my gma was in the early stages of dementia. Someone called her and told her she won the lottery but had to pay taxes on it to collect it. We think she did a wire transfer. Once she fell for that we think they likely called again and again until my aunt realized what was going on. unfortunately once my aunt (who is older herself and doesn’t use the internet etc) grasped what was going on that money was long gone. We did notify law enforcement and the postal inspector but there was really no recourse.
