I love how Nancy adopts such a parental philosophy as Do What I Say Not What I Do. She maybe incredibly sweet and beautiful, but she is very very edgy, dangerous and strong. She can handle just about anything, and thrives in an unbelievably dangerous world, but she wants her children to remain preserved in innocence and igronance. Even though her world has exposed them to incalculable danger and terror, she wants them to remain entirely oblivious, and her plan to preserve this is that in the event of any danger, she will be the one to protect them and whatever happens, she will deal with it. Although she is right about that, that with her around to protect them they will come to no harm, it still makes me laugh when she moralises and teaches her children virtue that she wouldn't dream of following herself. She just thrives on the excitement of criminality, outwitting and staying one step ahead, and using her ingenuity to keep people in line!
Nancy Botwin has to be one of the most fascinating anti-heroes in TV history. Between Mary-Louise Parker's magnetic performance and the brilliant writing, you find yourself rooting for a woman that, by rights, you ought to loathe. That's not easy to pull off.
