  • The long-standing pro-Palestinian encampment was dismantled at McGill University on Wednesday morning as dozens of Montreal police officers descended on campus and one man was arrested.
McGill president Deep Saini said the university was clearing out the camp in “close collaboration” with the city and police, and through the “engagement of a qualified security firm.”
“This camp was not a peaceful protest,” Saini said in a written statement posted online.
“It was a heavily fortified focal point for intimidation and violence, organized largely by individuals who are not part of our university community.”

Employers are hiring firms to do candidate background checks, including social media, and if found to have participated in a pro-Palestinian protest, will remove them from consideration. We live in a relatively free society. You are free to believe what you want and say what you want as long as you don’t break the laws of our society or infringe on other’s beliefs or voices. Occupying Universities create hardships and disruption for student and faculty who don’t share the protestors beliefs, not to mention The cost to taxpayers. If you are that passionate about the issue, organize, plan, raise funds, and mount a credible effort to win people over to your point of view. These disruptive protests like Just Stop Oil, the BLM protests, Occupy Wall Street, the Trucker Rally, and these Free Palestine protests, don’t sway people’s thinking in the least. It saddens me that in our universities, Pro Palestinian students are trying so hard to raise their voices against killing and Genocide in GAZA, more than 200.000 killed in GAZA so far, and they are shut down or treated like they are against the law, while others can protest any time for no reasons and are protected, this is an alarming sign. But I think there is no hope for their voices or our voices as Arabic or Muslims or non Muslims communities to be heard in the system not just now, but for a very long time, no matter how hard we study, work, how much we contribute, and how much we pay taxes. In this country, they are trying to wash the people's brains as far as I can tell, to control them and make them focus on material rather than humanitarian matters. I have been observing this for a long time in our media. For long , they disconnected people and did not want us to watch the news we needed to know, but only the media they wanted us to see. We are now living in poverty, and can't pay the rent, even though we work hard. They don't care about us or about the human beings killed outside, who are they?
As long as it is about people suffering, we must become ourselves again, wise, respectful, stand together to solve the world problems, not contribute to wars or problems.

@@Method9 I'm Canadian. That is not an ongoing war. We continue to work on reconciliation with First Nations. Different altogether. The Palestinians LOST the 6 day war back in 1967. They refuse to accept it. They willingly elected Hamas, knowing they we're not interested in peace. Full stop. Now, that said, it doesn't give Israel the right to obliterate innocent people. But let's be very clear and honest about why they are where they are.

@@zoeslovely7096 I'm also Canadian. We imprison all kinds of FN leaders over their resistance to resource extraction projects. Pipelines, fracking and old growth all come to mind from just the last few years. Many of them "lost" their wars well over a century ago - if there even was one. But the struggle and the resistance to imperial colonialism continues.
Reconciling one genocide while investing in another that is replicating the same strategies used here, initiated by the same empire, seems just a little bit hypocritical, don't you think?
As for electing Hamas, that happened what, 19 years ago? Like half of the Palestinian population isn't even 19 today. These kids didn't elect anyone.

I stated FACTS about the 6 day war they lost and have never been able to accept. They also do not believe in the right of their neighbors to exist, making peace impossible. Lastly, they don't value human life. Martyrs live in glory, according to them. Oh and of course, their "fearless" leaders care so much about them as a people, they steal all the aid for their martyrs and soldiers. You gloss right over the truth.
