In this video we continue our restoration of a Retro Simo Buggy, focusing on rust removal. We demonstrate three different techniques for dealing with: surface rust and discoloration, a medium degree of rust (where thicker patches have begun to spread), and deep rust (where the rust has burrowed well beneath the upper chrome level of the metal).
Nice work on the “chassis”! (Pronounced cha-see or if you’re in Great Britain you may here them say “sha-see”)
I had the chassis of my 1970’s Perego pram done and new tires put on for a small fortune. There was no way I could have restored it like the professional craftsman at Macklems prams in Toronto. I don’t think there is anyone in Canada now who can restore a pram like he did. He’d reupholster them and create perfect hoods and aprons from authentic fabrics and hardware. Can’t wait to see how your turns out!
Awesome! This is an older video, so no new footage on the stroller coming unfortunately. But always happy to have a good vintage restoration business mentioned in the comments. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thank you for producing this video. As a stroller and pram collector I run across the rust and caulking a lot. The Simo Classic is a beautiful pram. I don't have a Classic but have three Simo Nordic Cruisers in my collection along with several Emmaljungas which do have the chrome chassis and wheels.
Thanks for useful info!
How you removed the wheel
Interesting pronunciation of chassis. The final s is silent.
Chasis - lol. It's pronounced shasay
Chassissss?
I got the rust off of mine with coke cola and steel wool, it came up better than yours lol
