    Fantastic information.
I have quite a few old blow torch gas bottles that I want to hang from the tree and play tunes from. That equation has just made
    It!
    Thank you.

Mr. Murray-smith, I just L.O.V.E your channel! Just for information sake... I'm old'ish, and I dropped out of school very early in life, to take care of "that" which life had arranged for me. so having come to a spot in my life now, where I have freedom to explore, I've found that I am renewed in spirit to hunt down knowledge, and well you sir are an incredible inspiration, and a top notch guide! The way you present the projects has helped me to understand and learn things that I've struggled with in the past. From the gal posting this... "she stands up from her seat and begins with a round of 👏, she motions a gesture from the bottom of her ❤ , 👏 BRAVO my Good 👍 man, Bravo." I'm sure if I would have had just one teacher with your caliber, well I would have suffered the rest. Stay beautiful, stay inspirational, and stay on the air. P.s. this covid situation has found me loosing my 🏡 so as soon as I can get anywhere out of the cold I want to help support your channel. Thank you ever so kindly.

Somehow you always answer the questions I have in a practical way. I have made wood notes as individual lengths of wood and just cut and hit till it gets there so this is much appreciated. I have watched your electrical vids for years this is another facination I have as the music electronics make is just a one note song. I have tried generating power from my guitar pickups just for the fun of having an 18650 with music in it.

I think viewers would highly appreciate if you could turn video 180 degrees in post when there is written information. Now we all must turn our monitor and that's a quite bit harder to do. I don't mean that we can't do that, but you know what I mean. But anyways. Thank you for a good video again.

I almost followed how you worked that out, but then I got lost somewhere when you said "K - ?" I thought I had understood it, but no, I must have missed something, not that it matters, I won't be ripping up my floor to make drums!

I still wonder why YT does not offer a silly easy function as 'rotate'. Many mobile phones share rotated movies, it would be handy to have a rotate function. Ah well. I did write them this in feedback several times, but I stopped doing that.

Brilliant! Except for the fact that the frequencies you used were based on "tempered" tuning which is necessary for multiple keys. In this case you're only using one key so there's no advantage to using the tempered tuning system. It will sound better and more natural if you use "mean" tuning. Whatever key you're using the desired ratio of the eight frequencies would be 16:18:20:21:24:26:30:32. The sizes of the tongues should be around the same ratios as well.

    • @fogdog165
      @fogdog165 4 года назад

@Desmond Bagley Actually no, mean tuning refers to aligning everything to one note and as long as you play in only that key it sounds glorious but other keys, to various degrees, don't sound right. With tempered tuning everything is slightly but equally out of tune relative to mean tuning and was adopted to allow for playing in more than one key. Fretless stringed instruments and wind instruments allow the player to find the sweet spot for each note in any key whereas the piano or other essentially fixed tuning instruments the tempered tuning system is needed to allow for multiple keys. The tongue drum will be in only one key so no tempering is needed, mean tuning is ideal for that instrument.

So, you made a very difficult task, easy. Thank you. I do have a couple questions, but I think I will watch the other videos first to see if you answer them.
Back with my questions and a comment. I was first going to ask where do I measure the length from. At first I was thinking the entire length of the wood. Then I thought, ok to the rabbet. Then was it the front edge or the back edge of the rabbet? Then my final thought was, to the front edge of the mount bracket to the end of the tongue. Now my thought is, does it really matter, as long as they are all in scale. The difference as you would say it, is a note or a sound. If the note or the sound are in scale with each other you created a scale. Then you can tune them to notes.
So if I take off the wood of the tongue, lets say I take it off the end. How much of a gap between tongues do I start effecting the sound box or echo chamber? Yes I know I could take off the bottom, just thinking outside the box and wondering when the echo chamber starts effecting the other tongues as well. Knowing that more vibrating air escaping at a different rate is going to have effects on the other tongues as well. Or does it?
What are the different effects if I were to make my rabbets wider or deeper? If I made my Rabbet depth the set depth, but to tune to a note, if I took off a millimeter of the bottom or off the leading or back edge, of that rabbet, would there be a difference?
OK, I know I could do these test myself, but I thought with your SIMPLE scientific approach and SIMPLE way of making me, an idiot, understand it, you could make others think outside the box even more.
I am on my way to see what else I can learn from you. Great job.

Very awesome. Math was always my weakest or should I say held the least interest. Here I am much older wishing I had someone early on inspire me regarding mathematics. Now that I am much older I am now fascinated by it and realize it is the basis of pretty much everything in the universe.

Would be useful to invert the video for viewers to read. Is it me but I could not hear any ‘notes’ when he was hitting the metal? It all sounded the same. Maybe the tongues should be isolated from each other as they are resonating the others?
