Its disheartening to see that blackmagic studios did not taek any effort to help in restoration. Loses some trust as a studio right there. Happy to see you got your project back and wish you googl luck for futue ones. Thank you for sharing this one.
I didn't have to do all these though. I'm on windows in case there's any difference. I just went to Start Dashboard > Add Project Library (left bottom) > Create (not Connect), browse to an empty folder. It then created directories within that empty folder as Resolve Project Library\Resolve Projects. I knew my previous Resolve Projects folder was in F:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Resolve Project Library\Resolve Projects. I now closed Davinci Resolve (in case there's a folder/file lock or being used), copied the contents from a previous Resolve Projects to new Resolve Projects folder and got everything back.
Oh nice, that does seem like an easier method. I’m not sure if it makes a difference between mac and windows, I’m pretty sure it would though. All I know was that was a gut wrenching experience and it took me a while to find a solid solution to fix it. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks for the info on this! What if the backups don't have project files but are just timeline files? For some odd reason, the "Project Back Up" box wasn't selected for the Save Settings in the Preference tab of Resolve on my mac. Would this still apply?
@@lightinsidecinema Indeed, it’s a frustrating situation to be in. However, I’d like to share that after trying your method, I discovered an easier way to retrieve project library in DaVinci Resolve, provided you have the project files available. In the Project Library section, click 'Add Project Library.' When the new window appears, choose 'Connect' instead of 'Create.' Then, give your library a name and browse to the folder where you’ve saved your backups and project files. For me it was: H:\01. My Projects\1. Video\02. Resolve Files\02. Personal\Resolve Projects This method worked wonderfully for me.
I hope this works. I had to reinstall a previous version of davinci, and when I did, nothing showed up. I didn't know how to load the backup screen, so I am going to try that later tonight. I had the save project setting to every 5 minutes. So they should be there, right?
But now version 19 is locking up so i went to version 18.5 and can't load my database backup. Will it not work with version 18.5? Trying to upgrade to 19.1 to see if i can restore it. Any suggestions? Thanks!
The backups need to be on the same version of resolve. If the backups were created with 18.5 then the software needs to be 18.5. You can later update the backups with 19
Hey there, not sure its its just me, or I have the wrong types of backups and files for this to work. But I'm 3 weeks into a wedding edit, dozens of hours, and somewhere along the way I deleted the previous 7/8th of the timeline, leaving just the ending, and its saved over. Not sure what I can do, but the methods listed above are not working for me as I move through this. Maybe its a diff of mac to PC, but my file types are not .db they just say timeline.23981293 or something along those lines. Are those the same restore files?
does anybody know if davinci makes any small files, like Adobe lightroom, to restore or use any size files. I think I lost footage of a project, and there's no way to get it back. At the moment trying to recover SSD with DiskDrill (MAC) maybe it could restore files from 3 months ago, but doubt it. I have working Davinci project, but no video files, from the project..

Hey thank you , yeah it is disheartening but no one is perfect. I just keep positive on everything.

this worked for me too. i just copied the entire guest folder, thanks
Hey man, I am struggling to understand what you said, "browse to an empty folder", which empty folder?
@@DarylChris Create an empty folder and select it, DaVinci will create project related folders in it.
This saved my career
Wow 12 hours ago and I’m dealing with the same issue. I hope it solves it
Oh wow! I hope it solved it as well. It is no fun going through that.

Does anyone know if there's a setting on Resolve to automatically create project files like other softwares to stop this issue happening in future?
Unfortnantly no. I have researched and researched and just never found it if there is one.
Very Useful vedio but i hope i never need to use it
Yeah it was a big nightmare for myself.

@@beribiskadras did you have auto backup turned on
@@lightinsidecinema I believe the should be a backup left in laptop. But does it work without original media files?
@@beribiskadras no it wont it needs something to connect too.
