Yall it’s the “thank you for trusting me” that has me in SHAMBLESSSS. I find I say this a lot to folks that I know have challenges with being vulnerable, and hearing it *from a character that we know struggles with being vulnerable around most others* is ironic but.. really touching and heart-melting. I’m going to be romancing him in my next playthrough frfr😭🫶
And that's the thing too, for his character it's all about learning to trust people again, and gaining their trust back. Before he would just lure people to Cazador, they trusted have m enough to follow him back to the palace, and thus their trust was betrayed. This time he can gain true trust, in himself, for others and from others. The levels of trust vary personally for him depending on if he ascends or not. It's different, but no less important to him.
Why is he so pretty? How does Tav do it, not keeling over with a heart-attack when he looks at her like this and says all of these sweet sweet things? I think I fainted 5x during this video 😅

It's even more comic, when my husband enters the room, and like 'oh, drawing your crush AGAIN?'. Well, duh, again, and again, and again... And blushing, and fainting, and heart pounding. Sorry. 🥵🥰
Love the line "I don't intend to die, if you don't". Because with all the power and freedom and riches he has now he still is ready to face even deadly dangers with Tav side by side and perhaps die, if Tav will. Not for some abstract great goal, not for the indifferent world, not for vogue greater good, but for his beloved. I love this "ride or die" attitude 🖤
Mine is, "Ask me anything and it will be yours" as well as the line during the Teifling Party where he says, " If you don't remember how much you enjoyed it last time, I'd like to try again until you can think of nothing else." (Note: To get that line you have to tell him you're going to spend the night with someone else after already having the first night with him before the party.)
Astarion was all this before the ritual, just not as intense, and with all this new power, it is a lot to take in, he needs a few centuries. But! He never forces us to do anything. A lot of people forget that even as a spawn he was no saint, he was manipulative and all that flamboyant charm. After the ritual, he doesn't need that flamboyant facade, he doesn't need to rely on others to protect him, that power? I think he deserves it all, to walk in the sun, to be fearless, and he'll never be his tormentor... he'll have his eternal love by his side to knock some sense into him when he gets a bit too much xD And I can't forget the circus and Zethino and her The Trial Of Love thing... I did that with AA - (she was the real Zethino, not Orin in disguise) - and based on what she said, their love is true, so... and in D&D lore, we are his bride, not some spawn. There are so many little bits and pieces that if we notice, we see their love, and to me they're a powerful vampire couple living their lives in Baldur's Gate, or traveling if that's what Tav/Durge want. The "yes, my treasure?" and Aeterna Amantes lines are my favorites. I missed the romanced version of Astarion during the entirety of my paladin playhrough. He will certainly be my character's love interest during my next one as soon as I figure out what it will be. I want to wait until patch 8 releases to do a dark urge run because I think going through it as a shadow sorceror will be cool. I've also been trying out some mods, mostly different origins, classes, and races though I did get the mod that gives all camp clothes and dyes from the start and the adjustable party limit one. I recorded some gameplay of an overpowered combination that I'm thinking about posting soon along with some other clips from my bard and paladin playthroughs for fun.
My favorite phrases are if Tav wants to become an illithid, he will say that "we can find another way."🥲 and in the epilogue, if you try to break up with him "You are my consort! And I will see you live your best life even if you don't appreciate it."🥰 In general, when he "threatens" a better life, I feel warm at heart☺

I know ascended Astarion is supposed to be his "bad ending" (it was confirmed to be bad I believe), but good LORD it's so hard not to let him do it. Like at least he still treats you like his little special someone 😢❤️❤️
“Bad ending” is just Welch's opinion, hyped up by haters. Stephen Rooney himself corrected this by saying that the Ascension is not Astarion's “bad” ending, it's his “evil” ending. Could it be “bad” that Astarion feels alive again? He is no longer tormented by hunger, he can enjoy the sun, all the flavors and joys of life, see his reflection, gets strength and confidence. For him, personally, this is a good path. It may be bad for someone else, for all sorts of moralists with double standards, but not for Astarion himself. Astarion loves Tav very much, and after the Ascension he loves her even more - it's a deep and very strong love, you can see it in his eyes, even in the way he just looks at Tav.

I too have read all sorts of things in my time, to the point of insomnia and stress, lol.😅 I ascended Astarion purely out of spite for the “good ending”, I thought there would be something bad after Ascension, and I was just amazed at how beautiful it actually is, and how different it is from what the haters write. Literally from the first phrases: "You gave me everything. Thank you.“ and ”You are so beautiful ... And you will be beautiful forever. Thank you for trusting me," it's like Astarion broke the fourth wall by thanking me for believing in him.🥲 The only thing that might get in the way is the D/s style kissing fanservice they added to him, if you don't like that sort of thing, it's better to install mods for alternate kisses.
The bad ending for Astarion is when he ends up staked or as a zombie in Cazador's dungeon, ready to be sacrificed after being tortured by Cazador so severely he no longer healed. Ascended Astarion is evil yes, but still very much loves Tav and breaks all the (Vellioth's) rules for her. I will always ascend him, I couldn't bear it watching him run from the sun he loves so much while burning or hearing how sad and defeated he sounded the whole time after Cazador's death while remaining spawn.

He's still a little silly though, thinking that Baal's army would be a good douvry 😅 For some time maybe, while he'll be thinking he's using them, and they'll think they're using him, but as soon as they'll feel that he's served his purpose they'll get rid of him. Very likely it will be executed by Durge, either after Durge will end up all the life in the world, or when Durge will disappoint Baal through something and will not be needed anymore, which is very likely, as gods are thickle and exchanger their Chosens like dirty underwear. At least, these thoughts are, apart from other reasons, what makes me run a "redeemed Durge" run now 😅

@@iamkittybg3 oh, they are very power-couple-like, full of evil energy 😁 And I totally understand the "just a peek" moment, I've did it yeaterday when Halsin suddenly confessed his love and passion for my Durge. Being involved with Astarion, I found it a little sad that there were no variants to think against involvement with Halsin in the dialogue with Astarion, even though he claims to have nothing against it. I expected there to be at least one option, where there would be something like "Guess what? Halsin just said, he wants to woohoo with me, and even maybe with you. Funny guy, our friend Halsin, and no worries, precious, he's not my type (for real, I'm not into bulky guys), and "only you can make all this world seem bright"". Would be nice to have such an option (and get additional approvement from Astarion, for choosing him 😁), but, well, after all, I've watched the beautiful animation and kissing scenes with Halsin for science, felt kind of "ahm... nope, not for me, let's go monogamy with vampire babe", and reloaded 😅
The divines are not really Astarion's area of expertise. "Don't become his" is some of the best advice Astarion gives Durge though. And spot on, recognizing how little agency Durge had for most of their life, until Orin's plot went all wrong.
@@velinas_ I'd say, he knows enough about the gods to say "Don't become his" to Durge when she's fighting Baal. I mean, what's more here to say about a God of psycho maniacs, if you'd love your character to resist him (if not, okay, one can dive into all the Baalish philosophy and build a thrilling story on the thought that you're cleansing the world from sins, because what's the surest way to cleanse the world from sins then to get rid of all the present and possible future sinners, right (no sarcasm here, for a storybuilding about a character, who slowly accepts Baal it's a really strong and dramatic way of thinking))? But the boy gets to drunk on his power and freedom when he Ascends to think of Baal as of the permanent asset of his. As we say in Russia, "for the drunk the sea goes only up to his/her knee", meaning if you're drunk, in most cases literally, but you might also use the proverb when figuratively speaking, you think you'll beat anything and just so you loose sight of your limitations or possible dangers. That's exactly what happens to AA, he changes his thoughts about Baal 180° :)
Damn, he knows all the sweetest and romantic things to say.... But, even though you win his heart ultimately still knowing he used these lines to lure Innocents for 200 years could still make you wonder at night when you sleep if it's really true.
These lines? There's no information in the game about what exact phrases Astarion used when he had to seduce victims at Cazador's behest, but, even logically, they certainly weren't those phrases. Maybe in Act 1 Astarion could have used some seduction schemes, but not now with the only person closest to him. Personally I have no problem understanding Astarion's feelings and his sincerity, I read his emotions perfectly from the screen - BG3 is game with a mocap, Neil's acting is great, Astarion is like a living person, his looks, facial expression and voice are real. I feel and see perfectly when Astarion feels bad, when he feels good and how much he loves. In addition, you can always pause and stare at it as closely and as long as you want. To wonder if it's really true - this can be relevant for a game with simple graphics and text lines, if the text doesn't make the character's feelings clear in any way. But not here, when Astarion has it all written on his face. Knowing what Astarion has been through in the past certainly makes me ache for him and want to treat him with as much care as I can, but I don't see how that can get in the way of mutual love.
He barely remembers Sebastian's name (if you play Astarion Origin you actually have to roll a dice), and he certainly wasn't offering anyone else to become his bride, even declined Minthara when she asked. So while he did manage to lure a lot of people to Cazador (not all innocents btw), the fact that he stays after getting this insane amount of power and even shares it (not just making you a vampire, but also protecting you from the sun) is evidence enough for me. If he didn't care he would leave.
Which exactly? About sovereigns? About "lovers forever"? He demonstraited us in act 1 his "favorite lines". There was nothing like this. Also his voice, face expression completely different. Also he didnt have any point to lie.
@@Nakumiya Exactly! Astarion doesn't need a “protector” anymore, he doesn't need anyone to survive, he offers Tav an eternity together because “I may have power, but it would be nothing without you”. "I'm willing to share all of this with you. What's that if not love?" I read that there was a possibility in EA where Astarion doesn't offer Tav an eternity together, but abandons her, at low approval. The player who wrote this also said they were able to accomplish this in the game (can't remember at which patch it was, but it was quite a while ago). To do this, after the romance started, the player specifically chose to only bad interactions with Astarion in the romance and in the entire game, except for not letting him bite Oblodra so Astarion wouldn't break the romance. The romance was saved, but Astarion's approval was very low (40 or 45, can't remember exactly) at the time of the Ascension, and Astarion himself rejected Tav after that. Unfortunately, the player-tester did not provide a video of their playthrough, but claimed that this reaction could still be achieved with the worst relations with Astarion, and the original plan was to have some bar with the required level of approval. It's a shame this wasn't implemented, it would have made the game more realistic.

From the dialogue when he offers to spend eternity together before turning you into a vampire 3. A phrase from the dialogue from the epilogue in response to him saying that we are flourishing 4,5,6,7 - answers to the question "who are we to you"
It may just be the octave his voice drops to when he "purrs" so to speak. His character and characteristics are based on a cat so Neil just implemented those inflections into his voice. Like when he says Cazador's name, the "or" has the "purr". When he says, "Love" it's the "ov" that has the purring. The difference between them is with Cazador's name it's said in disgust and anger. Like the warning growl before a cat strikes out. Hope that makes sense 😅.
Oh, Ascended Astation... I want to love him so much because I am ALWAYS down bad for a vampire, especially since I always play an evil Durge. But everything he says after he ascends, all his pretty words sound just like that... pretty words. The same type of schtick he used to use on his Cazador victims. Manipulative. He doesn't sound like he actually means anything, he's just saying them because he is an expert manipulator and knows what Tav/Durge wants to hear. All I want is to do an evil Durge run with AA where we are murder husbands that live happily ever after raising hell in Balder's Gate... but apparently I can condone mass murdering a grove of druids, but draw the line at my boyfriend losing real feelings for me 😭 I'm weak yall
Neil said that AA is very honest, he takes off all the masks and has nothing to be afraid of. So no, he does not lie anywhere here. There is no point in him lying. He says all this sincerely, because unlike spawn, he is not afraid of his feelings anymore and freely declares that he wants to spend eternity with Tav. And also in the game we were not shown how he lures victims and what he says to them, except for a couple of ridiculous phrases at the tiefling party, which are completely different from what he says here. Tav as an illithid feels the hormones of love from him at Withers' party. I have a separate video about this. It is strange to see lies in sincere words. Personally, I think that Ascended Astarion is very sincere and tells the truth, and the spawn is afraid of his feelings and is so unsure of himself to the last that in the epilogue he asks several times if Tav really wants to be with him. But honestly, both versions of Astarion love Tav and say everything sincerely in both routes
@@iamkittybg3 yeah the only part where is bit insincere is when he says he can compel us and that we shouldn't stray too far because he doesn't know how far the protection he gives us from the sun will reach (I mean we can merrily leave for Avernus and he doesn't stop us). Which is normal for vampire lords lying to their brides. Everything else sounds more free, happy, joking around without having to fear any repercussions. Spawn on the other hand seems to slip his mask from act 1 back on, at least until Withers' party. I feel he is suddenly more careful what he says as if he's scared that one wrong word will make Tav leave him and then he truly lost everything, the ritual, Tav, everything.
“He's lying because he's lying.” Without any evidence of that. Without any even motive for lying. Without any need for Astarion to lie at all. When a man is “losing real feelings,” there's no way he wants to be together forever. And if those feelings were there, there's not even a single reason to lose them when the beloved helped Astarion in the most important moment of his life. Someone else, more self-sufficient, might have lost the feelings if they hadn't been helped with the ritual, but Astarion was too attached to the only person close to him in this world. It is not difficult for anyone who can see and feel another person's emotions to see strong emotions and deepest love just by looking into Astarion's eyes. The way he looks at Tav. Even without any words. And being able to speak beautifully doesn't necessarily mean manipulation. Playfulness, a touch of narcissism, a desire to show off - yes, that could be it. But the fact that Astarion puts very strong feelings in a “beautiful wrapper” is obvious to the naked eye, just from his face. He doesn't need to manipulate, he doesn't need any protection, on the contrary, he shares his powers and immortality with Tav, he wants nothing from Tav but her love. But of course you can dislike a character, dislike their demeanor, etc, that's totally fine. Yeah and wanting to love someone is pretty hard, and there's no need to, love is either there or it's not (but that's my personal opinion). Maybe some other companions will be closer to your heart with their manner of communication and declarations of love, and you will get more pleasure from communicating with them.

It also supports the bride theory. If a bride dies, the original vampire takes damage. So depending on how hurt he is, Tav dying could kill him.

I know ascended Astarion is supposed to be his "bad ending" (it was confirmed to be bad I believe), but good LORD it's so hard not to let him do it. Like at least he still treats you like his little special someone 😢❤️❤️
I can't say that this is his “bad” ending. This is his evil path, yes, but for him this path is not bad at all.😌
“Bad ending” is just Welch's opinion, hyped up by haters. Stephen Rooney himself corrected this by saying that the Ascension is not Astarion's “bad” ending, it's his “evil” ending. Could it be “bad” that Astarion feels alive again? He is no longer tormented by hunger, he can enjoy the sun, all the flavors and joys of life, see his reflection, gets strength and confidence. For him, personally, this is a good path. It may be bad for someone else, for all sorts of moralists with double standards, but not for Astarion himself. Astarion loves Tav very much, and after the Ascension he loves her even more - it's a deep and very strong love, you can see it in his eyes, even in the way he just looks at Tav.

I too have read all sorts of things in my time, to the point of insomnia and stress, lol.😅 I ascended Astarion purely out of spite for the “good ending”, I thought there would be something bad after Ascension, and I was just amazed at how beautiful it actually is, and how different it is from what the haters write. Literally from the first phrases: "You gave me everything. Thank you.“ and ”You are so beautiful ... And you will be beautiful forever. Thank you for trusting me," it's like Astarion broke the fourth wall by thanking me for believing in him.🥲
The only thing that might get in the way is the D/s style kissing fanservice they added to him, if you don't like that sort of thing, it's better to install mods for alternate kisses.
The bad ending for Astarion is when he ends up staked or as a zombie in Cazador's dungeon, ready to be sacrificed after being tortured by Cazador so severely he no longer healed. Ascended Astarion is evil yes, but still very much loves Tav and breaks all the (Vellioth's) rules for her.
I will always ascend him, I couldn't bear it watching him run from the sun he loves so much while burning or hearing how sad and defeated he sounded the whole time after Cazador's death while remaining spawn.

He's still a little silly though, thinking that Baal's army would be a good douvry 😅 For some time maybe, while he'll be thinking he's using them, and they'll think they're using him, but as soon as they'll feel that he's served his purpose they'll get rid of him. Very likely it will be executed by Durge, either after Durge will end up all the life in the world, or when Durge will disappoint Baal through something and will not be needed anymore, which is very likely, as gods are thickle and exchanger their Chosens like dirty underwear.
At least, these thoughts are, apart from other reasons, what makes me run a "redeemed Durge" run now 😅

And I totally understand the "just a peek" moment, I've did it yeaterday when Halsin suddenly confessed his love and passion for my Durge. Being involved with Astarion, I found it a little sad that there were no variants to think against involvement with Halsin in the dialogue with Astarion, even though he claims to have nothing against it. I expected there to be at least one option, where there would be something like "Guess what? Halsin just said, he wants to woohoo with me, and even maybe with you. Funny guy, our friend Halsin, and no worries, precious, he's not my type (for real, I'm not into bulky guys), and "only you can make all this world seem bright"". Would be nice to have such an option (and get additional approvement from Astarion, for choosing him 😁), but, well, after all, I've watched the beautiful animation and kissing scenes with Halsin for science, felt kind of "ahm... nope, not for me, let's go monogamy with vampire babe", and reloaded 😅
The divines are not really Astarion's area of expertise.
"Don't become his" is some of the best advice Astarion gives Durge though. And spot on, recognizing how little agency Durge had for most of their life, until Orin's plot went all wrong.

@@velinas_ I'd say, he knows enough about the gods to say "Don't become his" to Durge when she's fighting Baal. I mean, what's more here to say about a God of psycho maniacs, if you'd love your character to resist him (if not, okay, one can dive into all the Baalish philosophy and build a thrilling story on the thought that you're cleansing the world from sins, because what's the surest way to cleanse the world from sins then to get rid of all the present and possible future sinners, right (no sarcasm here, for a storybuilding about a character, who slowly accepts Baal it's a really strong and dramatic way of thinking))? But the boy gets to drunk on his power and freedom when he Ascends to think of Baal as of the permanent asset of his. As we say in Russia, "for the drunk the sea goes only up to his/her knee", meaning if you're drunk, in most cases literally, but you might also use the proverb when figuratively speaking, you think you'll beat anything and just so you loose sight of your limitations or possible dangers. That's exactly what happens to AA, he changes his thoughts about Baal 180° :)
Damn, he knows all the sweetest and romantic things to say.... But, even though you win his heart ultimately still knowing he used these lines to lure Innocents for 200 years could still make you wonder at night when you sleep if it's really true.

These lines? There's no information in the game about what exact phrases Astarion used when he had to seduce victims at Cazador's behest, but, even logically, they certainly weren't those phrases. Maybe in Act 1 Astarion could have used some seduction schemes, but not now with the only person closest to him. Personally I have no problem understanding Astarion's feelings and his sincerity, I read his emotions perfectly from the screen - BG3 is game with a mocap, Neil's acting is great, Astarion is like a living person, his looks, facial expression and voice are real. I feel and see perfectly when Astarion feels bad, when he feels good and how much he loves. In addition, you can always pause and stare at it as closely and as long as you want. To wonder if it's really true - this can be relevant for a game with simple graphics and text lines, if the text doesn't make the character's feelings clear in any way. But not here, when Astarion has it all written on his face.
Knowing what Astarion has been through in the past certainly makes me ache for him and want to treat him with as much care as I can, but I don't see how that can get in the way of mutual love.
He barely remembers Sebastian's name (if you play Astarion Origin you actually have to roll a dice), and he certainly wasn't offering anyone else to become his bride, even declined Minthara when she asked. So while he did manage to lure a lot of people to Cazador (not all innocents btw), the fact that he stays after getting this insane amount of power and even shares it (not just making you a vampire, but also protecting you from the sun) is evidence enough for me.
If he didn't care he would leave.
Which exactly? About sovereigns? About "lovers forever"? He demonstraited us in act 1 his "favorite lines". There was nothing like this. Also his voice, face expression completely different.

@@Nakumiya Exactly! Astarion doesn't need a “protector” anymore, he doesn't need anyone to survive, he offers Tav an eternity together because “I may have power, but it would be nothing without you”. "I'm willing to share all of this with you. What's that if not love?" I read that there was a possibility in EA where Astarion doesn't offer Tav an eternity together, but abandons her, at low approval. The player who wrote this also said they were able to accomplish this in the game (can't remember at which patch it was, but it was quite a while ago). To do this, after the romance started, the player specifically chose to only bad interactions with Astarion in the romance and in the entire game, except for not letting him bite Oblodra so Astarion wouldn't break the romance. The romance was saved, but Astarion's approval was very low (40 or 45, can't remember exactly) at the time of the Ascension, and Astarion himself rejected Tav after that. Unfortunately, the player-tester did not provide a video of their playthrough, but claimed that this reaction could still be achieved with the worst relations with Astarion, and the original plan was to have some bar with the required level of approval. It's a shame this wasn't implemented, it would have made the game more realistic.

It may just be the octave his voice drops to when he "purrs" so to speak. His character and characteristics are based on a cat so Neil just implemented those inflections into his voice. Like when he says Cazador's name, the "or" has the "purr". When he says, "Love" it's the "ov" that has the purring. The difference between them is with Cazador's name it's said in disgust and anger. Like the warning growl before a cat strikes out.

Oh, Ascended Astation... I want to love him so much because I am ALWAYS down bad for a vampire, especially since I always play an evil Durge. But everything he says after he ascends, all his pretty words sound just like that... pretty words. The same type of schtick he used to use on his Cazador victims. Manipulative. He doesn't sound like he actually means anything, he's just saying them because he is an expert manipulator and knows what Tav/Durge wants to hear. All I want is to do an evil Durge run with AA where we are murder husbands that live happily ever after raising hell in Balder's Gate... but apparently I can condone mass murdering a grove of druids, but draw the line at my boyfriend losing real feelings for me 😭 I'm weak yall
Neil said that AA is very honest, he takes off all the masks and has nothing to be afraid of. So no, he does not lie anywhere here. There is no point in him lying. He says all this sincerely, because unlike spawn, he is not afraid of his feelings anymore and freely declares that he wants to spend eternity with Tav. And also in the game we were not shown how he lures victims and what he says to them, except for a couple of ridiculous phrases at the tiefling party, which are completely different from what he says here. Tav as an illithid feels the hormones of love from him at Withers' party. I have a separate video about this. It is strange to see lies in sincere words. Personally, I think that Ascended Astarion is very sincere and tells the truth, and the spawn is afraid of his feelings and is so unsure of himself to the last that in the epilogue he asks several times if Tav really wants to be with him.
But honestly, both versions of Astarion love Tav and say everything sincerely in both routes
@@iamkittybg3 yeah the only part where is bit insincere is when he says he can compel us and that we shouldn't stray too far because he doesn't know how far the protection he gives us from the sun will reach (I mean we can merrily leave for Avernus and he doesn't stop us). Which is normal for vampire lords lying to their brides.
Everything else sounds more free, happy, joking around without having to fear any repercussions. Spawn on the other hand seems to slip his mask from act 1 back on, at least until Withers' party. I feel he is suddenly more careful what he says as if he's scared that one wrong word will make Tav leave him and then he truly lost everything, the ritual, Tav, everything.

“He's lying because he's lying.” Without any evidence of that. Without any even motive for lying. Without any need for Astarion to lie at all. When a man is “losing real feelings,” there's no way he wants to be together forever. And if those feelings were there, there's not even a single reason to lose them when the beloved helped Astarion in the most important moment of his life. Someone else, more self-sufficient, might have lost the feelings if they hadn't been helped with the ritual, but Astarion was too attached to the only person close to him in this world.
It is not difficult for anyone who can see and feel another person's emotions to see strong emotions and deepest love just by looking into Astarion's eyes. The way he looks at Tav. Even without any words. And being able to speak beautifully doesn't necessarily mean manipulation. Playfulness, a touch of narcissism, a desire to show off - yes, that could be it. But the fact that Astarion puts very strong feelings in a “beautiful wrapper” is obvious to the naked eye, just from his face. He doesn't need to manipulate, he doesn't need any protection, on the contrary, he shares his powers and immortality with Tav, he wants nothing from Tav but her love. But of course you can dislike a character, dislike their demeanor, etc, that's totally fine. Yeah and wanting to love someone is pretty hard, and there's no need to, love is either there or it's not (but that's my personal opinion). Maybe some other companions will be closer to your heart with their manner of communication and declarations of love, and you will get more pleasure from communicating with them.
