I always considered things like Astarion becoming a zombie, Cazador ascending or never defeating Cazador to be his bad endings since they have bad outcomes for Astarion. From completing the game with both spawn and ascended, I don't see either as a bad ending since he's happy in both. One just happens to be evil. xD

This is a really symbolic and touching scene. Astarion shows that he is burying his past life and starting a new one. And his words at the graveyard are very heartfelt. 🥹❤️

I was always a vampire horror fan, not vampire romance, and I never really was into that whole, cocky, "You know you want me" sort of attitude that Astarion has when he first starts trying to seduce you. But every time he opened his damn mouth I was like, "Oh, this is a PROBLEM. This guy might actually persuade me to serve myself up medium-rare..."

@iamkittybg3 sucks too 'cause there are some really cool throne designs apart from just Kethrec's. You'd think Astarion would have a reaction to Cazador's, or Wyll and Karlach to Gortash's/Grand Duke's one.

Exactly, it's not just the player character "binding" themselves to Astarion, it's both characters binding themselves together. It's a vampire marriage.

@@britt6184 You quite literally have a vampire wedding. With someone at his side to temper him, you can accomplish all sorts of mischief~ and over time with your help, eventually he may heal. It won't be right away, it could take centuries, but with another soul at his side I think he'll be alright. 🥰

Yes! I've been saying this for the longest time!! The bond goes both ways!❤

The way he turns Tav is different than how he was turned too. The process itself is a vampiric wedding. He makes one lie right here though, turning us in that way skips being a spawn entirely. Straight up true vampire from the beginning. His description of how the turning will be like and what happened when asked the next day suggests it’s the process of making a vampiric spouse. Absolutely he is saying he’d bind himself to us for eternity as if proposing marriage, the turning is a wedding. A consort is a wife/husband role as well. Binding himself to someone of his own free will rather than forced is a sign of love in itself. The love is no doubt true, his changed behavior that people think is proof it’s not is just that his role in society changed as did his scale of power increased. He has no fears. At least on the outside. Reading his mind in that scene shows he still has insecurities. One in particular, he doesn’t think he’s worth being with his love. His thoughts (which is misunderstood by AA haters) is he feels we are degrading ourselves by being with him. The AA haters see that line as he thinks we are below him, rather than him feeling he is the one who is below his lover. Another thing that makes them think he really doesn’t care and are just spawn is his reactions to being broken up with, how many people have amicable break ups? Tav is all he has and it would infuriate and break his heart if his beloved left him. His reactions are strong due to his new feelings of being invincible and the one person he loves and thought loved him leaves him, after everything they gone through and him binding himself to them by choice. Can you imagine how hurt he’d be? He becomes angered and possessive. It’s not fair in his eyes after everything. He becomes manipulative to make it seem impossible to disobey him and leave when truly he has no control. He can only lie, something he has perfected. The love, in the end, is true. He truly loves his beloved. I wish the ones who hate him and say he’s just Cazador 2.0 could see that’s not entirely true. He is not repeating the cycle of abuse Cazador put him through and what Cazador was put through. There are differences. Not 100%, but there are differences. Likely because Astarion has someone he loves at his side. Further evolution into becoming like Cazador is minimized by having his consort who can temper the possibility of abuse by supporting him and being a light for him. If people hate him because of experience is absolutely a valid reason that should not be argued against or challenged. He’s fictional but that doesn’t mean others haven’t encountered relationships with someone like him. The ones who hate him and repeatedly spout the same things about the cycle of abuse, doesn’t actually love anymore, being his spawn to control, that others only like him for horny reasons, interpreting the read mind line as seeing him degrade us. I hear those on repeat, there’s nothing new to prove he’s continuing the abuse or he doesn’t love us. Those who repeat these reasons don’t have valid points behind their hate. Curious if they have opened their minds and studied him as a character? Why he does or says things that they think is proof? He’s a complex character and needs to be studied rather than going off the surface level. I love this character for his complexity and realism.

@ there's also a wine festival going on nearby. But I advise you to head straight to this house as soon as you enter Baldur's Gate, because if you're too close, he'll already be triggered and might fly out and start a fight with the guards and you won't be able to talk to him later. 🥲
