Hi Max, The core taper should be 50% of the yarns, so if the core has 3 strands each of 6 yarns then you need to take 3 out of each strand, 9 in total. The cover taper is normally just 3 plaits from each direction but this should be spread over the length of the tail to be buried. This is the same for any diameter. The core yarn count will be different but it’s always 50%.

Wouldn't it be easier to wax the ends with a little bee's wax to help the strands to go the eye of the needle????
