The best thing about Sonic Forces is the fact that someone at sega thought the best way to promote the game would be to do a collab with hooters. That one fact is better then the entire game.
That's really cool but at the same it's sad cause they should have focused on the fucking game instead of god damn hooters even though it's funny I thought forces was good
What I really hate about this game is the implication that nobody other than Sonic himself could deal with Eggman whatsoever. Like as soon as Sonic is captured all hope is apparently lost until he's found out to be alive again
Exactly! And what was Shadow doing for those months that Sonic was gone? It’s a shame, cause it was the perfect set-up for Shadow to be the one to break Sonic out of prison and help start the revolution which could’ve been cool
Probably because Sega keeps all the spotlight focused on just Sonic unfortunately. I mean when was the last time Tails or Knuckles were playable in a mainline game?
@@Skillfulstone Yes! Like fucking Zavok or whatever is name is was a boss and so was Metal and it took multiple hits to kill them... but chaos and Shadow go down one hit?!?!
My favorite part of Sonic Forces is when Tails goes "Sonic was kidnapped months ago and he's being tortured every single day!" and then cuts to Sonic busting out and goig "LOL! i could really go for a chilidog!" ...Man, you could just feel the pain and PTSD Sonic had at that point
THIS, like why even imply something like this if it’s not gonna actually take part in the story? 💀 I wish they weren’t so scared to give Sonic more emotions or let him get hurt. I’d be a lot easier to relate to him + the story would seem more real/authentic. Idk, this game just pisses me off lmao
@@Ilikesceptile11Nah bro, sustaining 6 months of torture is definitely going to get to someone. At this point, It's just unbelievable that it's not getting to him. Glad that this part was never in the Japanese version in the first place
oh, i just remembered: there's a character in the Sonic comic books named "Whisper". she uses a Wispon weapon, and she has a special mask that lets her talk to her wisp friends. AND she almost always speaks in a whisper... the only comic I've personally read where she raised her voice was a one-shot comic where she met "Jet the Hawk" from Sonic Riders, and she yelled "BE QUIET!" at him.
Honestly forces is probably has some of the most wasted potential out there. Sonic could have been jaded and hopeless from losing and being tortured and the oc could have inspired him again. Tails could have become the leader, proving his ability and why sonic trusts him and with sonic out of the spotlight the side characters could have finally gotten some development
This game in general highlights how awful the writing is. And how unimportant all the characters are, like Sonic go defeated… and? You do realize we have the likes of Shadow and Silver who are just as strong if not stronger than him right? And that’s without counting all the other characters that can stand on their own like Tails, who went from a brave kid able to stand on his own and even fight Eggman head on to a coward that cries when Sonic isn’t around…. Also how Chaos was just wasted not even having a boss. Or how much of a joke Infinite was as a villain.
you should see Sonic forces: Rewritten. It’s a fan made remake that you can’t play but it feels like the maker of the video actually put effort into it while the original feels like a rushed piece of crap
that would have given Sonic unnecessary depth all while threatening his core personality. we don't need another "Metroid: Other M". look at Mario. Sonic games need to be simpler, not more complicated. Sonic has the potential to be really simple: Sonic Mania, the two movies and the recent animated efforts (Mania Adventure and some other Tyson Hesse's works for Sega) showed it. and for the love of God, have him talk less. mute Classic Sonic in Mania Adventures is a great character, the "show, don't tell" rule should always apply there, or at least as often as possible. unnecessary speech makes things more boring, slower, and more chaotic, and often fails to convey emotions or intentions that can only be transmitted through well crafted gestures, expressions, behavior or postures. (so many expressionless faces in this game, so much exposition, even during the actual gameplay, it's disgusting and irritating) moreover, Sonic never gives up: he's supposed to be an unstoppable force of nature clashing with an immovable object (Eggman). wind doesn't need motivations. I don't want to see a depressed Sonic, that'll be the end.
For me, that plain oatmeal can be enjoyable at certain times, but it lacks an impact of taste that it would have if it were given more time to prepare, no fruit or spices or heck even any sweeteners to, well, sweeten the deal of eating this overall bland package that isn’t served in a broken dish, yes, but lacks a lot more to claim as it’s own to make it stand out from other oatmeals i’ve had in the past. TLDR; i’ve stretched this metaphor as much as i can, Forces while not broken lacks a lot to make it stand out and plays with concepts that end up not adding much to the already stale package.
That just proves how badly Pontac and Graff messed up sonics character. Yes the meat of sonics character is that he’s a cocky hero that loves helping others and plays by his own rules, but he’s not like that all the time! If this was the sonic of SA1 and SA2 the hedgehog would’ve lost all hope.
@@retron99 that’s a good point. But in a non mistranslation error version I think knuckles says something like “sonic is going through a living hell.” So that doesn’t change the fact that sonic is out of character here.
@@ineedbootlacestobeready8521 The game tried to be edgy and serious yet it was as sharp as a butter knive with these implications/statements that folks are dying, Shadow is back to a being brutal (again) and Sonic is "dead" yet it was all without substance or lasting meaning. Sonic literally spits out a meta platitude about working together to make the world a better place only for him and the OC to abandon the Resistance to go adventuring while everyone else cleans up and rebuilds the world (At least its a good metaphor for how Sega have been treating the cast for well over decade in the core "3D" games lol!). Honestly Sonic Forces is more of a shallow parody of edginess that fails to truly understand why folks find the "edge" appealing.
I’m pretty sure they ended up reusing the same engine they used in Lost World, which ended up making most characters feel more heavy than they should be.
for me personally, sonic forces meant a lot at the time that i played it. i was in the worst depression of my life by far. genuinely thought i was going to become homeless, so i bought it on a whim as a sort of last comfort, and it brought back a lot of memories of being a kid, making a ton of sonic ocs (and turning the tokyo mew mew girls into sonic characters. but thats unrelated), comics, sprite edits, etc. i played it obsessively and at the time to me it felt like a miracle. was sonic forces actually a technically polished game with good writing and gameplay? probably not. i havent played it since 2019. but i had a lot of fun playing it, so i really treasure it. even if the character creator actually kind of sucks in retrospect. anyway i think a good sonic game is whatever you feel in your heart :]
Colours was praised for its level design, but the reception became colder when fans noticed the terrible jokes from this era of Sonic originated there and that not every act was a hit. And that was before the "Ultimate" version added a whole bunch of bugs that weren't in the original, some of which were either borderline seizure inducing or like having light mode with max brightness.
Not to be a contrarian, but if not every act is a hit (as in, 2 out of 3 sucks on average), I wouldn't really say the level design was that great overall. Sure, there were some creative environments and a few good levels, but the entire game was clearly struggling to pad itself past the 2-hour mark. And as such one of the big reasons I'd say the reception has grown colder is not just the writing, but also how the devs somehow never found a way to improve on their design philosophy and as such the glaring design flaws only became more prominent over time, both in Colors and the following games (Generations is arguably the one exception by virtue of its development starting at the time of Unleashed, but it isn't entirely without fault, ironically most agree that the Colors stage is the lesser level despite following the overall design of that game).
It’s funny that 10 years ago pretty much everyone loved Colors, many fans called it one of the best if not the best Sonic game. People used to praise the wisps, the comedic story and Sonic being the only playable character. Now these are all things the fanbase hates.
@Casswury Unfortunately, no. You do need to get through all 6 acts to progress in the original as well, that was not an issue created by Ultimate. The only extras are the Game Land levels. And I must disagree, Colors has some of the most inspired level *themes* in the series but its design philosophy is not that great. Blocky platforming, automated spectacle to the max (Starlight Carnival Act 1 being the most guilty of this, half the stage plays by itself), yellow spring autoscrollers and of course the infamous "stand on switches and wait" levels. In every world, you'll get 2 good acts and the rest is padding. A shame, as the result is that the game does not take enough advantage of its unique zones as much as it could.
@@bulb9970 even back then people were saying that the dialogue was bad in Colors, the vitriol has only increased because every other game afterwards seems to highlight it more because their dialogue is even worse
It's worth mentioning that Colors came after nearly a decade of mediocre to terrible Sonic games, the fact that it was halfway decent meant it got lauded with praise.
10:15 no, you nailed it. It's the exact opposite of '06.' 06 was an ambitious dumpster fire of a game. Forces feels like a phoned in homework assignment at the end of the semester when you know you already have a B in the course. They didn't even bother pricing it like a AAA game, $40 with some DLC that became free because wtf charges for Super Sonic? Which is a shame because as you point out, infinite is a great design and a Sonic OC creator is the most genius thing for the community since the Chao Garden. Like everyone else, fingers crossed for Frontiers.
@@eway44 talking about frontiers, if I were to predict it based on the gameplay so far it's more of a forces than an '06 Honestly I'm hoping more for an '06 because that would be something I could laugh at
If I'm remembering right, (and correct me if I'm wrong since its been a bit since I heard this) some of the main reasons this game ended up mediocre was due to Sega rushing development and both the director and the level designer never working on a sonic game before. Could explain why everything feels so uninspired and bland. It sucks, cuz the idea of Eggman finally winning and making your Sonic OC cannon are good ideas, but wasted on such a "meh" product.
The funny part is remembering how certain people were that this game would be amazing because the game was delayed and missed the 25th anniversary in 2016 "They're taking their time to make sure the game is good, they learned they can't rush these games anymore!" That sure worked out well
@@BruceLigno "We got it guys, we learned from our failure with 06. We won't ever add any other playable characters than Sonic again and we won't ever attempt at making a complex story either. I'm sorry, what? Don't rush the game? Nonsense, that had nothing to do with our failure."
The thing that upset me the most in this game was how threats were handled. While there was display and dialogue of how dangerous Eggman had become and how powerful Infinite was, there was never a need to use or seek out the Chaos Emeralds? Even without Sonic, they would have been useful considering Knuckles and Tails could go super as well as Silver! And by the final fight there could have been about 6-7 Chaos Emerald powered characters ready to beat up the enemy forces (Both Sonics, Tails, Knuckles, Silver and Shadow, 7 if they chose the OC to be able to get the power of the Chaos emeralds.) But instead it was an afterthought that they put in later as DLC, and only for the two Sonics.
I'm pretty sure 3D Tails and Knuckles can't use the Emeralds. But your point still stands, why the fuck do they never even _mention_ Chaos Emeralds in this game? Even a single one can be used to distort space-time!
That's the only redeeming quality about Forces, the character creator! And... That's it. Ill boot up my PS2 to play Jak & Daxter 1 for the rest of it. Fuck that non-sense!
If they had kept Sonic being alive a secret until the end, kept Classic Sonic out of the game, made the levels longer, and added actual missions to the game where you had to help the other main characters gather supplies and intel and help them sabotage shipments and whatnot, made Infinite much more menacing, had area bosses in ascending difficulty levels going from Zavok to Metal then Chaos then fake Shadow, then have Sonic be rescued near the end but too weak from hunger and torture to defeat Infinite, making your character the one to beat him instead, it would’ve been an awesome game.
Honestly Tails doesn’t do jack shit in this game, especially when Classic Sonic took down the Egg Dragoon and Tails says, “We did it” even though he didn’t do anything
the only thing Tails did was cower like a pussy against Chaos in BASE FORM. Let it be reminded Tails was able to take down an UPGRADED version of chaos ON HIS FREAKIN' OWN
@@docplays6508 Much as it hurts me to say it, my expectations are REAL LOW for Frontiers just due to sheer fear they're gonna screw it up like they did with Forces

@@kaxcommentssomethingREAL Between Sega listening to Adventure haters (as well Sonic haters in general) for years, Sega cancelling Adventure remakes on two separate occasions and ofc the shameless as well as shallow bait in Forces (Chaos). It's actually quite disgusting how Sonic fans whose favourite games are the Adventure titles have been treated tbh. Like S3&K is my personal favourite Sonic game but this constant "classic era" pandering at the expense of screwing over the "Adventure era" ("Classic" Sonic literally one-shot Chaos like it was nothing) only enables the divisions in the fandom and causes more problems in the future with mixed messages between Sega and the Sonic fandom.
In those few seconds, Chaos 0 looked awesome Menacingly approaching Tails with his wet footprints visible in the dirt. Really giving off an air of creepiness ... Then he just evaporates underneath Classic Sonic
@@fuckthisstupidasshandleshit There's still roughly 20 minutes of difference between this and the Generations video; and even then, Gens is considered a quick game, just not as ridiculously fast as Forces here (seriously, there's levels that don't even last a minute) The 06 video is probably a closer comparison, but that game is a glitchy mess.
Shadow has always been my favorite character. Not because he's an edge lord. But because he has his own goals. He doesn't do what's right just for being a hero. He does what he wants and I liked that as a kid and an adult. Also I really like Shadow The Hedgehog game. Even with all of it's problems. I still love it.
Characters who have their own goals but still end up doing the good thing are more interesting that "I am always good and nice because I'm the protagonist"
He doesn’t even have his own goals though - sometimes people say this about him, and I find that weird. He’s just a hero doing the right thing for the right reasons.
Shadow really is the most important thing to happen in the sonic franchise. He ties alot of things together and brings more potential to different stories without sacrificing speed based game play. Things sonic wouldn't necessarily have happen to him. Shadow's presence brought the black arms which started the comic about his alien family in the comics. Shadow is a relative of Eggman and brings importance to that family through Gerald and Maria. He is a different look into how the power of chaos emeralds can work. But there's alot of characters that try to either take his power or hate him, like Eggman making thousands of robots and androids of him but they still can't match him, being sonics rival but at the same time his different perspective on what is good or evil, being the living weapon of black doom or G.U.N., being the direct result of mephiles coming to power or infinite attempting to slander him by use of illusion to sonics crew. He has directly and indirectly caused alot of things to transpire, but at his base, he's just a guy that wants to do the right thing even if it means hurting people along the way, though his personality would suggest he is arrogant at times and yet calculated. He cares very much about a little girl that didn't get to live past 8 years. And he blames himself for it, because he was supposed to be her cure, but since he was alive, he unwittingly became her doom.
What I'm annoyed about is that we NEVER get a chaos fight in this game, The zavoc fight is decent, metal's boss is just something to clone off of some of the infinite fights, and honestly, I was glad to see chaos again But I wanted to fight it
I received this game as a gift, so I played through it because I didn't want to be rude. It was a mixed bag. The Modern Sonic stages were really fun, the OC stages were mediocre, and the Classic Sonic stages were painful. The soundtrack was fucking great though, especially Infinite's songs. I still listen to the OST on a routine basis. 11:52 btw the Switch version I received had free DLC for Joker's outfit from Persona 5, so uh...you're not that far off
11:10 There's actually an episode of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog where a snake eats Sonic and then spits him out and Sonic is like "Sorry buddy, should've warned you about my quills!"
The main issue I have with Forces is how they punked Infinite. He would've been my favorite villain in the series had they just given him a better backstory and send-off. Hell, I have my own rewritten backstory for him where he went insane because Shadow killed all the jackals but him and left him to suffer, filling his heart with bitterness until his innate bloodlust took over his mind after becoming who he is now.
my revised backstory was that he has multiple run-ins with shadow, and his constant losses ruined his reputation as a mercenary. basically, the encounter in the actual game would be kept roughly the same, but with added context to show that this was the last straw in a long line of failures
oh so we are telling our own rewrites for infinite ok then for my rewrite infinite or zero and the custom avatar are brothers manly because i kind of saw them as brothers so it can work for the story anyways in the rewrite zero and rookie are brothers and they lived in a small village there whole childhood wit there parents until one day eggman attacks the village eventually sonic shows up and fights eggman after the fight eggman leaves but because of what eggman did zero and rookie lost there parents from the attack and are dead years later zero forms his own vigilante group called jackal squad zero tells his brother that he will be gone for a while but he will return later on jackal squad go out and fight eggman but they get outnumbered and eggman makes a deal to zero join him or die with your team zero doesn't want his friends to die so he says he will work for the doctor then weeks later they are in the jungle protecting a underground lab then suddenly eggman tells jackal squad that a black hedgehog and robot have entered the base zero tells his squad to go after the hedgehog he can handle the robot after a while zero destroys the robot but his team haven't called back yet until the hedgehog appears reveling to be shadow with no time wasting zero and shadow fight shadow wins the fight telling the jackal that his team are gone and that his nothing to him the jackal goes into a coma shadow leaves the base eggman shows up brings zero into the lab and begins to experiment on him with the ruby calling him infinite
Literally the only thing I like about this game was the fact that we got a fully playable shadow. At a time where sega didn’t feel confident making Sonic’s friends playable again, it’s nice to see one of em get the spotlight (even if he is a reskinned sonic, but tbf, he was also a sonic reskin in adventure 2 so)
Just gonna throw it out here: Sonic 06 was fucking amazing in making the other characters playable. Every single one got a completely unique moving and attacking set. Shadow felt both like Sonic and his own at the same time, like he was created to be, silvers moveset was fucking nuts for that era of gaming and even Amy, Rouge, Blaze and Knuckles had their own levels of playtime
@@nicolalama2562 No no, it really is bad. You want an exemple of a mediocre Sonic game? Secret Rings. But this.. ''Forces'' .. is legit a very, VERY bad Sonic game.
I remember being so disappointed that they don't even show Eggman taking over at the beginning. Same goes for fading out of cutscene into a sequence of dialogue boxes. Also correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this game say at one point that Eggman tortured Sonic for months?
They did, but only in the english localization. Same thing with the "Tails has lost it" bit. The english writers wanted to spice things up not realizing that if we don't see those things then it's just lies.
yep but that's only in the English version apparently, same goes for the "Tails has just lost it" line. Guess they were tryna spice things up and failed miserably at putting a serious tone in a Sonic game
20:50 I kind of liked our OC being tired during that scene. Like they can clearly keep up with Sonic, but he's been doing this for decades and we kinda just started yesterday so of course we'd be tired as hell.
My opinion on Forces is that there's no one terrible thing about the game, it's just that as a whole it's really mediocre. Levels are simple like Sonic Colors, but lack the creativity of Sonic Colors' environments which I feel was what made Colors so good. The music is pretty good, but a lot of the songs feel either out of place or can just miss the mark at times. All the playable characters feel like they were butchered in terms of controls. Lastly, the story is trying way too hard to be taken seriously. I don't think any one of these aspects on their own made Forces bad, it's just all of it combined makes it one of the most forgettable Sonic games in a while.
i agree. i just finished sonic forces and honestly it was nowhere near as bad as i thought it was going to be. even though in the grand scheme of things it’s nowhere near a great sonic game i was still able to find enjoyment in it.
6:36 "War never changes" got me absolute laughed my ass off of this edit bro😂, but in the same time it hit me hard with such old school nostalgia from Fallout 4
My only real complaint about the 'Avatar' is that they stick out too much. That Biafran poster-child torso is the worst offender. Not _one_ character in the series is that thin, so what prevented them from giving you a few different body types to choose from? Not like they couldn't just weight the one or two shirt models they retextured a hundred different times to let it adjust to different body shapes.
I've heard they purposely designed the OC's to look awkward so they wouldn't outshine the main cast. I can't recall the source as it was in a video I watched years ago but I think it was quoted from a developer interview.
@@ArtzyZero Yet they failed miserably since most of the main cast are useless exposition machines while the OC does all the work and still outshines them plus some folks got really creative with OC designs which later inspired the creation of an official Sonic character, Whisper the Wolf from the IDW comics.
@@lynxfresh5214 Well the official cast being walking cardboard cutouts wasn't exclusive to Forces, sadly. But design wise in game there is a very clear difference in how the OC characters are modeled compared to the official cast and it was intentional (assuming the interview I mentioned actually happened). That said, they obviously still wanted the OC to be popular otherwise they wouldn't have put so much effort into the clothing options. ^-^
@@ArtzyZero Nah... I understand the walking cardboard cutout point is nothing new, even Generations (The last GREAT 3D Sonic game) suffers from this. As a Blaze fan it made me laugh that a character, who a major part of her popularity comes from the fact she's a princess that actually does her job and gets directly involved in the action (instead of needing to be rescued and/or only cheers from the sidelines like many other fictional princesses) that in Generations she needed to be rescued and then cheers from sidelines during the final battle (alongside most of the cast lol!). At this point Sega should either leave the cast outta the games to just focus on Sonic OR actually make some of them playable as well as be important to the entire game. Tl;dr: The walking cardboard cutout compromise needs to go from Frontier onwards (All it does is continually enable the "sONiC aNd hIs UsElEsS fRiEnDs" meme).
@@lynxfresh5214 Oh the way the ended Generations bothered me so much, it really brought down a good game. There's no way any of Sonic's friends would just stand and watch as both Sonic's are being hurt. You could argue the others can't go super but Shadow and Silver are there and they'd absolutely join the fight. Thing is, there was such an easy fix. Just don't have Sonic's friends there. Or if you really wanted keep the 'my friends are my power' moment (because as cheesy as it is, it's always fit the series) have Sonic's friends notice that White Space is becoming unstable and they're forced together. As a group they realise Sonic must be fighting the creature they've seen. Naturally they want to find and help him but the Time Eater is blocking the way with the same barrier's we see in game, so with no other options they're forced to watch. That way them calling out for Sonic to keep fighting without actually doing anything makes sense because they can't physically get to him. (This is just off the top of my head, I'd probably give it more thought if I had too. XD) I don't think we need another Sonic Heroes (I wouldn't say no to another one of course) but I think a game that focuses on a small group of Sonic's friends would be the best way to go. Then save the side games/party games for including everyone at once, since you don't need a detailed story in that situation and can just focus on fun character interactions. This is (again) off the top of my head but maybe have Sonic and Tails take another trip to Blaze's dimension for some Eggman Nega shenanigans but this time Knuckles tags along after a mix-up or something. They can't get back home until they've beaten Nega and so the adventure begins. You've got two speedy characters with Sonic and Blaze and two more flight/exploration based characters with Tails and Knuckles. So you can have open styled levels like in SA1 where you speed through them in a linear fashion with the speed characters as they pursue Nega's robots, familiarising yourself with how a level looks before exploring it thoroughly for, say the Sol Emeralds, with Tails/Knuckles. You could have each character play a little differently or unlock unique locations in each stage so you've got reasons to switch between the four of them. (TLDR; Totally agree Generations ending sucked and Sonic's friends deserved better. I want them to try multiple characters again but keep it limited to just a couple per game and save including every character in a game for spin offs/party games, allowing for fun interactions without a complicated story. (The rest of my comment is just 'what if' story rambling.)
List of things Choctopus liked about Sonic forces The tighter control Sonic's smoothness Building an oc The gamer hat Infinite's design The OST collecting all those rings in casino jungle Playing volleyball during the final boss
I'm glad we get more of Choc's adventures in Sonic's sub-par games, lol! That Sonic 06 playthrough made us laugh a ton, and I can't wait to sit through another one. :)
Nah you're telling the truth. When generations came out everyone was like "it's ok but colors was way better" 😭 but up until frontiers dropped people randomly switched to saying generations was the best
Being a Sonic fan is rough sometimes, I pray the new fans that play Frontiers after seeing the both Sonic movies get a good game so they don't have to feel our pain. XD I wound up playing this game with a 'My OC do not steal' character on my first run but then on my second 'run' (tried to 100% my save file, so I created a new character for the achievements and stopped after learning the collectables don't unlock anything.) because I wanted some kind of interesting plot, I made my character an ex-member of Jackal Squad (Infinite's mercenary crew that he ditches in the game) and that he's joined the resistance to stop his boss's madness after their first encounter went poorly. And my fanfiction bias aside, I do honestly think it makes things more interesting. It hardly saves the game from being dull of course, they completely missed the mark with the story in this game. Promising a grand plot and teasing returning villains, only for two of them to be defeated in cutscenes and to tell the player the story is progressing instead of showing it and of course the awful writing. I remember getting to the credits and feeling unfulfilled, the credits theme is lovely and I didn't feel like I'd earned the right to listen to it. I really, really hope Frontiers is better but I have my doubts and will definitely be waiting for reviews.
Infinite is another character I really wish they’d do something interesting with instead of just making new characters every time. At this point there has to be 1,000+ Sonic characters.
Yup but first Sega need to learn to properly utilise the established cast and consistently treat them with respect as well as nuance in the games (Something they've failed at for well over a decade now).
This man made this game look so easy. He wasn't wrong about the controls and platform levels. The amount of time I almost broke my controller out of sheer rage is unbelievable. Not the mention the final boss, the alien form, really was a pain in the ass. Those lasers threw me off on how slow they were. But in the, I will still remember this game as the second Sonic game I've ever beaten, right after Sonic Colors of course
I mean, the game was sorta easy. Haven’t touched it in a while, but all I remember is that the game was relatively easy to get through as Modern Sonic (boost to win), tricky as Classic Sonic (movement), and difficult as the Avatar (level design).

The worst part about the game, you have to download super sonic and episode shadow, and episode shadow only has three levels Also when you run, you start out slow then boost out of no where
I have sonic forces and here my thing, I don't think it's a bad game it just gets bland after a while. It would have helped if the game was story was better and the game was longer.

I see where you're coming from I personally like the game. I especially have the most fun when I speed run through it as I feel that's what the game was made for. Try speed running the game you might have more fun
In a perfect world, we would have gotten Sonic Generations 2 instead. 6:34 This game is way to comedic to be taken seriously by me. I would go with Sonic CD as the darkest because of the boss and game over theme (US version). I was unable to sleep properly for a few weeks after hearing the themes for the first time. Edit: Oh no, the boss and game over theme from Sonic CD (US version) is in Sonic Origins.
Man if they really put the money into that great battle scene, it would’ve been just like endgame. Giving everyone their own time on camera to use their unique skills to destroy enemies. It would’ve been a spectacle.
Ive seen people speedrun this game in about 58 minutes….let that skink in…this game is so short people have beat in in less than an hour and this was the game 4 years after lost world
The issue isn't that it's short. The issue is the level design isn't engaging or creative enough. On average, that's the amount of time you can speed run the classics. The difference is with those games, they require skill/ memory to get those times instead of "boost to win"
I like how when Eggman is ranting to sonic about how it’s impossible to escape null space you can see cubot pointing and silently laughing at eggman as if he enjoys watching him fail and they are more on sonic’s side
06 actually has interesting things in it, like the bosses are actually not bad outside of like initial confusion on how to fight many of them and the occassional bullshit, and we have lements of the story that's interesting. AND she almost always speaks in a whisper...

What does this have to do with sonic forces
@@Dukk2007 the "avatar" in this game uses something like a Whispon...

And that’s without counting all the other characters that can stand on their own like Tails, who went from a brave kid able to stand on his own and even fight Eggman head on to a coward that cries when Sonic isn’t around….

that would have given Sonic unnecessary depth all while threatening his core personality. we don't need another "Metroid: Other M".
look at Mario. (so many expressionless faces in this game, so much exposition, even during the actual gameplay, it's disgusting and irritating)
moreover, Sonic never gives up: he's supposed to be an unstoppable force of nature clashing with an immovable object (Eggman). wind doesn't need motivations. I don't want to see a depressed Sonic, that'll be the end.

What I'm annoyed about is that we NEVER get a chaos fight in this game, The zavoc fight is decent, metal's boss is just something to clone off of some of the infinite fights, and honestly, I was glad to see chaos again
But I wanted to fight it
I received this game as a gift, so I played through it because I didn't want to be rude. It was a mixed bag.
That’s effed up, but better than what they actually made his backstory
my revised backstory was that he has multiple run-ins with shadow, and his constant losses ruined his reputation as a mercenary. basically, the encounter in the actual game would be kept roughly the same, but with added context to show that this was the last straw in a long line of failures
oh so we are telling our own rewrites for infinite ok then
for my rewrite infinite or zero and the custom avatar are brothers manly because i kind of saw them as brothers so it can work for the story anyways in the rewrite zero and rookie are brothers and they lived in a small village there whole childhood wit there parents until one day eggman attacks the village eventually sonic shows up and fights eggman after the fight eggman leaves but because of what eggman did zero and rookie lost there parents from the attack and are dead years later zero forms his own vigilante group called jackal squad zero tells his brother that he will be gone for a while but he will return later on jackal squad go out and fight eggman but they get outnumbered and eggman makes a deal to zero join him or die with your team zero doesn't want his friends to die so he says he will work for the doctor then weeks later they are in the jungle protecting a underground lab then suddenly eggman tells jackal squad that a black hedgehog and robot have entered the base zero tells his squad to go after the hedgehog he can handle the robot after a while zero destroys the robot but his team haven't called back yet until the hedgehog appears reveling to be shadow with no time wasting zero and shadow fight shadow wins the fight telling the jackal that his team are gone and that his nothing to him the jackal goes into a coma shadow leaves the base eggman shows up brings zero into the lab and begins to experiment on him with the ruby calling him infinite

20:50 I kind of liked our OC being tired during that scene. Like they can clearly keep up with Sonic, but he's been doing this for decades and we kinda just started yesterday so of course we'd be tired as hell.

im sorry, im dead,
My opinion on Forces is that there's no one terrible thing about the game, it's just that as a whole it's really mediocre.

@@playerback7722 I don’t think the story can’t be taken seriously. It’s more that SEGA doesn’t want to do it because they want a goofy Eggman.
i agree. i just finished sonic forces and honestly it was nowhere near as bad as i thought it was going to be. even though in the grand scheme of things it’s nowhere near a great sonic game i was still able to find enjoyment in it.

XD)
I don't think we need another Sonic Heroes (I wouldn't say no to another one of course) but I think a game that focuses on a small group of Sonic's friends would be the best way to go.

Being a Sonic fan is rough sometimes, I pray the new fans that play Frontiers after seeing the both Sonic movies get a good game so they don't have to feel our pain. XD
I wound up playing this game with a 'My OC do not steal' character on my first run but then on my second 'run' (tried to 100% my save file, so I created a new character for the achievements and stopped after learning the collectables don't unlock anything.) because I wanted some kind of interesting plot, I made my character an ex-member of Jackal Squad (Infinite's mercenary crew that he ditches in the game) and that he's joined the resistance to stop his boss's madness after their first encounter went poorly.
I like how even on hard mode they feel the need to tell him that rings give life as if people would play hard mode not knowing that
Infinite is another character I really wish they’d do something interesting with instead of just making new characters every time. At this point there has to be 1,000+ Sonic characters.
Yup but first Sega need to learn to properly utilise the established cast and consistently treat them with respect as well as nuance in the games (Something they've failed at for well over a decade now).
If you look closely and peel off the name, you realize infinite is just a dollar store version of mephiles
