and thats after they basically did the same mistakes themselves with Sonic 06 (except in that case they dropped the Wii version in favor of the other consoles, not the other way around).
@@Nirual86 I wouldn't call that the same mistake. They just cut an unsupported console out of the mix in favor of stronger ones. Sonic Boom meanwhile was apparently coming along very nicely, until they get told to port everything to the Wii U, which resulted in huge chunks of the game being cut and last hours spent on making an unsupported engine run on the Wii U rather than to polish the game. This is more comparable to Mass Effect Andromeda, where the entire game was built on an engine that cannot handle RPG focused games. Hell, there's problems with it running FPS games, the games this engine it was made for. Unlike Sonic Boom, this choice was apparently 100% on the team and not the bigwigs. Also to play Devil's Advocate here. Sega was not to blame for Sonic Boom, it's mainly on Nintendo. The contract stated Sega needed to release 3 games for their consoles. Sonic Boom got the shit end of the deal because of all their projects, this one was the closest one to completion and the deadline was ticking really close. Shit happens in game development, and Sonic Boom was there to save Sega from any legal nightmares.

The "We can use them as ramps!" Exchange actually sounds like one of those two lines was recorded as a stand in for that spot of dialogue until the writers came up with something more clever to use then, but either forgot or were just so incompetent that they straight up couldn't figure out something better
This video unironically inspired me. I think it could be fun to make a game where the controls/physics is specifically unintuitive or changes between levels with the point of the game being to figure out how to abuse the controls
Stuff like this is actually really hard to create on purpose. Though there are certainly some indie games that kinda play with the idea of breaking out of the initially presented gameplay premise (Pony Island comes to mind), nevermind those moments in gaming history where a glitch turned into a whole new gameplay mechanic like rocket jumping.
The problem with this concept is that most movement techs in games are either discovered completely by accident or through an understanding of the game's coding, both of which are unsatisfying and frustrating ways to introduce puzzle mechanics
Touhou 17.5 Gouyoku Ibun is sort of like this. Kind of like a fighting game, where you play through a quick story as one character and then unlock another character who plays basically completely differently, and you end up having to relearn how to use each new character each time. One will be able to fly and spam invincibility projectiles from the sky, and then the next is a grappling melee character, etc.
the 3DS ones were pretty good tho. The first one had a few problems (Not nearly as bad as RoL) but the second one got rid of them and made it even better
I love how you just used the pause sound/screen to segue through all the moments where you used (abused) Knuckles' infinite jump. That sound is absolutely burned into my memory and you definitely captured the experience well
The way gaming cycles work, in five years' time the kids who grew up with this game will suddenly become very active on the internet, and this game will be somehow retrofitted to be a "hidden gem" that "did many things right or something". Something very similar has already happened with Sonic 06. There's just something amazing about peoples' abilities to find the tiniest of silver linings in an absolute dumpster fire
Here's something that makes the game a hidden gem: Very expressive animation! Even if some of the designs or overall animation are controversial, the expressions are great!
The difference between this and 06 to be fair is that 06 was released on major consoles and Rise of Lyric was released on a console that only exists hypothetically
@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 oh yeah no i get it, like overall i know exactly whats going on and what the overarching story is, but each individual plot point is making me more and more confused
i think the funniest thing about this video is that, even after the official sonic account crashed the stream and told jacob he was evading taxes, they still gave him early access to sonic frontiers
Fun fact: this game’s story is a complete trainwreck because Sega making up arbitrary rules for the game devs such as: sonic can’t touch water and tails & eggman must be the only inventors
@Charon the Toaster Well that makes a lot of sense. It's another level if they are making them change shit without giving them any time to essentially rewrite the story
@Charon the Toaster Because of Generations, the only way to make an origins story is to use the Classic forms and do all sorts of confusing workarounds, like they somehow find a way to show why Amy is traveling to Little Planet or her being from Little Planet (they'll probably make it MORE confusing)
I recommend watching the "What Happened" video on this game-learning about the development of this game is genuinely sad. There was so much wasted potential just...thrown away.

18:54 Trivia time! This exact little "hiding the loading screen" trick was greatly utilised in the original *World of Warcraft* , making the game at the time seem impressively large and quick! World of Warcraft is a _decade older_ than Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric, and stopped utilising this trick after two years into its lifetime.
Yea, hiding loading screens like that is just a thing. Probably not anymore, but if you're trying to load a really impressive section of map its still an option.
Modern games still do this all the time, their just so much better at hiding it. Why do you think every single protagonist of a Triple AAA game has to slide between two rocks before they can get to the view showing off the next gen graphics on the other side?
To be honest the cartoon is amazing and im sad they didn't get more seasons, i wonder how reception would have been if there were never a game, only the cartoon
7:40 Running on water IS actually possible if something is fast enough, but I don't think it's not as easy as video games and movies make it out to be. The common basilisk lizard has flat back feet and can get up to 15 MPH on water, and with those two combined to it's relative size, it can run across water for short periods of time. This has led to it sometimes being referred to as the "Jesus Christ Lizard."
I don't know why my brain didn't immediately realize that the only possible game that could ever continue the "I Played 'X,' so you don't have to' series, and truly live up to the absolute masterpiece that was Jump Force, was the one and only Sonic Boom Wii U game, but looks like Alpha showcased just exactly _why_ he's the official three-time video game champion. Well done Jacob, well done.
That is so funny in the wrong way. It's like teaching a 4-year-old how to play a video game. It's stupid, and frustrating, but you can't help but smile, trying not to laugh.
This is the perfect Jacob game. Watching this live was like watching a child unleashed in a toy and candy store Until all of a sudden the parent (Sonic the Hedgehog official account) has to monitor them before they get too out of control
This was probably the first game I played when I got my Wii U. The most memorable glitch that my sister and I found (aside from infinite jump knuckles) was if you were in the village area I guess and you went to a certain house, climbed on top of the roof, and jumped against the wall, the body would stretch out and look real wacky. We normally played as Amy due to the double jump, so it looked rather weird. I haven't been able to play it for a while because it just freeze, and I think I had the updated version.
Gonna be real, the cartoon is genuinely funny. They really do a good job of referencing and parodying the history of the series and it's fans, and there are some great 'over the kids heads' jokes for adults hidden in there. I feel bad for the french animation studio that made it having their show's reputation associated with the trashheap of a videogame.
The comedy in the show was insane. Easily early/peak SpongeBob and Amazing World of Gumball level. Knuckles destroying the twitter feminism argument and explaining actual feminism is just legendary. Its a shame the show wasn’t more well known and loved. It was just legitimately funny with legitimately likable characters with legitimately good chemistry. Far more than I can say for most adult comedy cartoons
That's the last thing I would have been expecting, honestly. Being familiar with the cartoon, I expected the dialogue to be good, even if everything else falled apart.
The Sonic Boom Cartoon was quite entertaining. A few episodes were weird but, it felt like the weird you used to watch a long time ago during the 2000s and it has been seen as a childhood and amazing cartoon even with those weird moments. Sonic Boom was nice, had some good moments, and would like to see more down the line. Especially the Sonic 2 Small Animation Shorts they decided to make.

@@kyotanaka920 that's not nintendos fault. it's still segas. If I borrow 50 bucks and need to pay you back and because of that, I need to sell something, that's not your fault. That's my own bad planning.

Knuckles in every other sonic game:”it’s not flying, it’s gliding with style”
This game:
Jumping with stule
Yes indeed. He is doing that.
I CAN FLY. ALL I NEED IS TO COMMIT TAX EVASION
It exists. It's called Getting Over It
Touhou 17.5 Gouyoku Ibun is sort of like this. Kind of like a fighting game, where you play through a quick story as one character and then unlock another character who plays basically completely differently, and you end up having to relearn how to use each new character each time. One will be able to fly and spam invincibility projectiles from the sky, and then the next is a grappling melee character, etc.

There’s a game that is an actual hidden gem, sonic unleashed
@@Crxsseyed1 i really do hope that sonic boom gets the p-06 treatment in the future

Here's something that makes the game a hidden gem: Very expressive animation! Even if some of the designs or overall animation are controversial, the expressions are great!

@@thesupervideogamenerdmore3171 oh yeah no i get it, like overall i know exactly whats going on and what the overarching story is, but each individual plot point is making me more and more confused
In many Sonic games, Knuckles can glide
Sonic Boom however takes this to the next logical step, allowing him to straight up fly
i think the funniest thing about this video is that, even after the official sonic account crashed the stream and told jacob he was evading taxes, they still gave him early access to sonic frontiers
Fun fact: this game’s story is a complete trainwreck because Sega making up arbitrary rules for the game devs such as: sonic can’t touch water and tails & eggman must be the only inventors
No it isn't lol. If they can't write a plot around shit like that then they are just incompetent
