@@All5AJz If you think that’s infuriating, you should look into how Hawai’i isn’t even a part of the US. We never relinquished our sovereignty to them, they have just told everyone they annexed us and no one questions them. Then the US held the “statehood” vote and only allowed their American citizens to vote, Hawaiians weren’t even allowed to vote on it. It’s actually illegal for Americans to even BE in Hawai’i and purchasing property here in accordance to international law. I have info in my profiles “about” section if you’re interested in learning.
Thank you for caring though, the world definitely needs to rectify the wrongs it’s committed (& continues to commit) against indigenous peoples.

There were already homes built there but the government needed the land to build the freeway over it so the owners were forced to sell their properties and move out. I think for renters you need to have the mindset that your living conditions are transitory and it’s not uncommon for landlords to sell their property. My former boss lived in his rental house for years and loved it until the landlord decided to sell and he was forced to move out. Home ownership can bring some stability but it does have its drawbacks and there is a lot of variables to consider especially when it comes to responsibility and cost. Is the affordable housing a public or private project? If public, why doesn’t the state provide vouchers to the displaced tenants until the new housing is complete? If private, is this an eminent domain issue or did the owners of the apartments decide to sell? I left Oahu because it was too expensive for my pension. Even when I was earning over $100K a year before retirement, I lived in a very small condo. I loved living in Hawaii, but leaving was the best decision for my family. The city of Honolulu has no choice at this point in time but to contemplate building more and higher apartment towers. Because of the overgrowth in Waikiki, dubbed, the Concrete Jungle, for decades Honolulu political leaders and populace were averse to construction of more high-rise buildings. But time and growing population have caught up. There is no other choice. Honolulu cannot even afford the luxury of small, two-story apartment buildings given the limited amount of rental apartments. It's going to need super high rise apartment buildings like you see in the sci-fi movie, "The Fifth Element" to accommodate thousands of Honolulu residents desperately seeking rental apartments and affordable ones at that.

So, since the current tenants are renting, Are they not being offered a reasonable arrangement to buy.
