- The ACROSS project is a cinematic experience that brings SÓLSTAFIR and VREID together to share their cultural identities and bridge the sea between the two fjords. The concert is free to watch, but fans may donate via VIPS and PayPal.
Spectacular views of the Storehogen Mountain in VREID’s hometown of Sogndal, Norway and of Hellisheiði in SÓLSTAFIR’s native Iceland lay the majestic backdrop for this one-of-a-kind, 90-minute long digital streaming event. Each band’s signature sound rings through the cavernous expanse, creating a symbiotic musical dialog that can be heard from across the globe.
SÓLSTAFIR’s Aðalbjörn Tryggvason comments: “Playing live music in sideways rain on moss grown lava. They wanted something Icelandic. Doesn’t get any more Icelandic than this.”
VREID songwriter and bass player Jarle Kvåle adds: “SÓLSTAFIR’s and VREID’s stories are two parallel stories of the north. In this weird world, our paths have crossed on several occasions and this time they have merged into something new. This is the third streaming event VREID has done, and in many ways, it represents the end of a trilogy for us. This time we have recorded the show in a place very special for us, probably the most monumental and iconic place of our beloved home region of Sogn. Join us as we go ‘Into the Mountains.’”

Very cool concept! I came mainly for Vreid. Hearing Valfar's synths in the "Into The Mountains" is a thrilling experience every time I hear it and gives me intense goosebumps. Very good job guys, keep the legacy of Windir alive.

Sólstafir is awesome! Discovered them when they opened for Swallow the sun, in 2011 or 2012 I guess, Zaandam, the Netherlands. Didn't quite know what to make of it....maybe I was a bit overwhelmed. At home I started to seek them out on RUclips and it all clicked....awesome band. Seen them live some 3 times after that, with my son, who also got into them.
Vreid is a band whose name I know and definitely need to pay more attention to.....will do!

On my way back from Jotunheimen nasjonalpark, I chose to travel through Sogndal skysstasjon to see Sognefjord for the first time. Not only because of its natural beauty, but also of Sognametal, a concept I learned ca. 12 years ago, of course, from Windir, and you, Vreid, and Mistur.
Approaching the settlement, I realized I had seen that radio tower on the top of the mountain ahead before. I remembered a longer performance on RUclips split by two bands. Of course, it was this video I saw before and which I have just watched again.
Greetings from a Hungarian staying now in Sweden. (And I hope I will visit Iceland, too, in the future.)
