While the first Despicable Me is not as good as 2010’s other animated offerings like Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, and Tangled, it still has a lot of fun and heart, and it was a good first outing for newcomer studio, Illumination. It's no accident that the franchise rose to success immediately after the Shrek franchise ended its run two months prior.

Ngl, I didn’t watch Despicable Me until a later time. But then, I got curious and when I finally sat down and watched it, I actually had a good time. I enjoyed the dynamic of Gru and the girls. The moments they share with each other are charming and wholesome. Makes me glad to have checked this film out after putting it off for a while.🙂

It's not weird to have a leash on a kid if its prone to run off, like when its hyperactive or having mental disability (which probably Justin haves), you gotta keep an eye on the kid so it doesn't get hurt or getting in trouble.

You missed the fact that at the front door as he’s walking in, they show the dog skin rug. It is a blink and you miss it, but the movie is darker than you think simply because of that moment and probably others did. It are meant to playoff a joke and yet.
Something this movie never considers (and neither did I the first time I saw it) is that shrinking the moon does not change it's mass, it just makes it more compact. Ergo, it would still WEIGH the same as it did before. Carrying it around should not work in the slightest lol.
Let's be real: Despicable Me was a more surprisingly solid film that was better than it had any right to be. Yeah, it's not How to Train Your Dragon or Toy Story but Illuminations decided that it didn't have to be while still deciding to make something worth while. It was a solid first step for Illuminations and I'm glad they're getting some decent stuff out into the world of animation.

The first 2 movies are, to this day, such a fun treat. The other movies are inoffensive enough, but they just don't hold a candle to these two.
