I'm loving my Speed 3, but I'm only at a fully bolted, mild upgraded turbo 390/385 @ the wheels running an E25 mix and spraying some methanol for extra cooling, safety, and valve cleaning (because we're direct-injected).

Those are afterfires, not backfires. Big difference. Backfires can be extremely dangerous; afterfires happen (and are much more audible) when you have a spark cut (due to hitting the redline, for instance), then spark resumes with extra fuel in the system that ignites all at once, going out the exhaust and making that sound. Other things can cause afterfires, too.

Nope. The motor build alone on the MZR DISI Turbo engine (which is shared with the Mazdaspeed 3 and CX-7) can be built to handle 800+whp for well under $10k. Many 500-600whp engines on this platform can easily be had for $5k. I have a Speed 3 and have researched this extensively. There's even an extremely reputable/successful shop local to me that'll do the whole build, making you a 700whp-capable engine, for $5k, including pulling the motor and re-installing it. Now getting all the supporting mods, the turbo, etc., can put your build into the $10k+ price range., for sure.
Thought at 0:18 that the vipers tire exploded but it seems the Mazda backfired and scared the viper driver. Gotta stay focused and committed in situations like that. But damn was that loud.

I want to do a drivetrain swap with the awd and add the 2.3 turbo set up in ththe speed 6 into my 2.5 fusion. I'm going to build the fusion the Ford should've built. I'm calling it project Confusion".
I'd love to get mine up to these specs, if I could keep it out of the shop longer than a mo. This is a beast, and makes me proud to actually be a Mazda 6 owner. Recent owner of 97 and 02 mustang's. My Mazda is definitely quicker than both of my stangs were. I definitely want to build a sleeper 6.
Realistically, how much torque can this thing handle before the transfer case is smoked? I've broken CV joints front AND rear with only minor upgrades.
Arthur Serino torque is at 480. Damaging the transfer case or breaking an axle is pretty unlikely from a roll. That can happen at any power level when it comes to hard launches. I've had this car for over 10 years now and it's still on the oem front axles. Only axle to break was the driver side rear and it's been upgraded to a dss axle.
@amggilly305 I love your car, I was inspired to build mine 3 years ago and I myself are at that power level and about 520 torque. I'm also on stock axles and I managed to run 11.1 at 127 on 18s with street tires. I would love to do an event like this I think it would be a blast.
