#festka #scalatore #weightweenie
Hands down the best cycling channel when it comes to quality of editing and sheer passion for cycling. Thank you!
Oliver Torres cheers mate! Very happy you like it 🙏
Dude, the editing effort u put in these vids is bonkers. Good job!
Happy to hear you like it! Cheers! 🙏
man your edits are another level.
Grig Hambardzumyan 🙏
What a great bunch of “amateur “ mates you are ! It’s what it’s all about. Great bikes, great rides and great mates. Love watching your videos. They make me happy. Thank you Tobias.
Make me happy to hear that mate, cheers!
10:31 background lol!
What a video. The cinematography is next level.
Du gör ett mycket bra jobb. Mycket inspirerande för en noob i cykelsammanhang som jag själv.
I cannot but agree with the rest of them comments: the quality of the edits is looking so pro. Kudos
Awesome lighting effects in the intro... wonderful!!!
Love those CC brakes. Beautiful frame too.
Your intros became really artsy. Great job 👍🏼
Nice bro... Very nice!
Gorgeous build!!!!
That's a stunning looking frame
they are all of that and so much more
Great build, great video. Love the drone shots! :) It's great to see your channel growing too! Keep up the good work.
China Cycling cheers mate! Same to you 👍
Man that bike is so cool.Keep it up the good vids.
Think you've encouraged me to bring some scales out on a ride...
2:10 holy mother of god
Absolutely stunning. Only thing I would have done differently is I would have gone with Nissen cables over the Jaguar stuff, but that’s just me nit picking :)
Spin2 Win yeah, we were messing around with those jag wires way to long... one reason we didn’t manage to complete the build ourselves.
Cheers!
Jumping to the 200 grit didn’t polish out any of the larger gouges made by the 600. Start at 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1200 and maybe to 2000 if needed. Smaller steps will equal and more even finish and way less scratches!!
Awesome vid as usual. Love your music selection, editing and humor. Amazing looking bike too!
Good to see your OCD being put to good use in video production techniques. Looks good.
a handmade bike frame from the Czech Republic :) cool
Epic intro video. Congrats on the montage
Fab video and love the music. Keep them coming. No hints on the track used at the end

Butterfield 1 by Marc Torch
Me encanta la bici, purista y de primera calidad, con grupo mecánico,no Aero... Genial y atemporal
Damn, what a stunning frame and thanks for the #fannypackcyclist shout out! Rarely do I leave the house without one.
🤜🤛
Good Golly Gosh! Another home run my friend, your videos are most excellent. Thanks for sharing Dom's special new bike day with us. I wonder what your bike mechanic friend could have done to improve matters, that you guys couldn't have? Looks to me like you guys had it under control.
Tickle Fritz the main problem was that we didn’t have enough time. We could have finished the build but we probably needed a couple of extra hours.
Nocchi is a seasoned mechanic that has a lot of experience working for pro team etc. He probably fixed that puppy up in 15min 😅
He said stroke the shaft very well. 😝
Total Stunner!! in par with the edit :D
Got a chance to test out the new Chapter 2 Huru at the Saitama Cycle Expo last week and thought it was brilliant.
Your channel is awesome
That's a pretty sweet ride isn't it?
What other "less known" frame builders do you guys like?
.
.
.
PS. I feel I want to apologies for some pretty bad run-and-gun camera settings... learned a lot of what not to to for the next one. Hopefully it's not too distracting for you.
I ride a Fairlight Secan, Reynolds 853 Steal frame.
My eyes right now are on Chapter 2 bikes from New Zealand.
GAnDhYoNe nice frame , reasonably priced too.
Curve Cycling Melbourne AUS
I had a chance to test all 3 Chapter 2 models last week and I loved each one of them. However, the Huru really blew me away. Absolutely beautiful climbing bike!
what a nice bike to see! and great choice. the big brands are a bit boring compared to a Festka for example :)
Super nice bike , must have been pricey. Great video
Rosenlaui Switzerland for a handmade carbon frame from a smaller builder it’s actually not that crazy expensive.
The best climbing bike I ever had is my 17 pounds S-works Venge. Can't wait to try a 13 pounds bike.
Anthony HT depending on the terrain where you ride, an aero bike like the venge might make more sense 👍
The nothing quite like a really light bike though imho :)
Rides of Japan
New venge is below 7 kg...with DB,powermeter and high profile aero wheels
Awesome build, but if this is a mountain goat weight weenie build I would opt for a different powermeter/crank option to really lower the weight. A regular GXP sram red is only 569 grams and maybe add a single side Stages. If neeed dual powermeter maybe look at the Assioma duo pedals =)
That seat post is a tanker. Lots of way lighter options
❤
Isn't the expander too short? Stem on head tube is longer so they both aren't 100% overlapping. Just for safety..
@ 10:30 I think Dom is spinning the other bike in the air, that's how light it is lmfao.
How has Dom found the braking on the Lightbicycle rims? Am searching for some to make a rim brake ww bike lighter for our North Shore mountains here in Vancouver.
He knows how to rub that seat post.
Expected it to be alot lighter actually! For all those special parts and it's still over 6 kilo? My bike (Rose X-Lite Six) is 6,7kg but with full Ultegra DI2, 45mm DT-Swiss wheels and aero handlebars so not light stuff at all! But the video itself was very fun to watch and I've learned a thing or 2 to remove ugly logo's!
Absolute beauty! What about the price for the whole build? Only expensive or already x-rated?
Jakob Ro I’m too afraid to ask Dom about it ;)
I think Dom has one kidney left...
what exactly did the mechanic do that you didn't?
socks go under the tights!!!
PRO TIP:- Stroking the shaft with 2000 grit can cause painful injury
I would love to see you try to get a bike as light as possible with your attention to detail
Henri Bedford My Open UP is a constant work in progress... more coming soon 🙊
One could say the quest for grams is a disease. ;)
PEACE.
light bike thanks in part to rim brakes no doubt, but how is he at coming down some of those hills you ride in Japan, especially in the snow and wet conditions?
We don’t ride in the wet 😜
@@ridesofjapan I say the same thing. Still get rained on!
I've heard of lightbicycle wheels before. But are these considered mainstreams wheel options now? (perhaps I should look at their site...)
I wouldn't say mainstream, but looking at user feedback there's very few negative comments. Taking the price into account you could argue that they offer more value for money than any of their "big" brands.
What drone do you use ? Very great video and funny. (Yeah, we should always take a scale to the mountains)
Ravin Premji cheers mate.
I use a dji mavic air.
I would start with 400 or 600 sandpaper and finish with 800.
If you put lighter wheels and a 4iii power meter, you would knock of an other 500g!
Nice👌
The last bit, "Dom's Review", is what's been said about almost every single bike out there that is > $2000. Makes one wonder...
Question of the month, How much did the Feska shim for the front derailleur clamp weigh?
Oh great video as per usual. Mark the Leica dude?
Interested to know why with all this $$$ eTap wasnt used?
Great video! Can you tell what music sounded in this video? Thank you very much!
Last song is Butterfield 1 by Marc Torch
Sweet ride and great video....as usual. Bike porn....rubbing that shaft to get it shiny 🤣
other +600 grams and it's a bike that you can use in race. Probably have no sense push down the weight under 7 kg, better work on rotation / spinning things. Any way the bike is fantastic. 58 with discs..Gokiso wheels...and different crank will be for me perfect.
Love you videos.. I'm heading to Japan soon! Let me kown if you'd like to collaborate on a video!? :P
Another great video! But an observation is why don't you guys actually purchase nitrile gloves that fit? All that money spent on the bike, and you use gloves that are to big and give way less dexterity? Nothing worse than gloves that don't fit.
Jason Peters cheers mate!
Haha, I guess there’s always areas to improve on 😅
Jason Peters I get them from my local DIY shop. Here in Japan, getting gloves that fit (and shoes for that matter) is pretty difficult. I go with XL but the fingers are still too short for my foreign fingers. Obviously Japanese people with particularly big hands have shorter fatter fingers. If I could get the right size, I would.
How does he rate the veloflexes compared to say a GP4000?
joris ermens Dom hasn’t ridden GP4000 so he can’t compare unfortunately. I’ve ridden veloflex roubaix tubs (which are exactly the same as Dom’s, but with black walls) and GP4000 clinchers (not tubs) so it’s a bit of an unfair comparison. The veloflex feel noticeably nicer
@@1977markfielding thx for the reply, i'm considering the new Vittoria race clinchers, because i realy want the old school sidewalls
Do you know the final build cost??
Fastest milkman I don’t know exactly, afraid to ask Dom 😜
but it’s less then say s-works or top-of the line Trek.
@@ridesofjapan very nice frame regardless, wish there is disc frame bike under 6.9...and safe during desent!
The only reason he got the festka was before he received for free, because he could get an emonda slr (300 grams lighter)
Ahhh, mechanical, with rim brakes! :)
I know, such a shame right 😜
(I kid, I kid)
Good choice!
And external routing :p
Do you live japan?
Dk 0821 はい
And then to see this bike weighs less than my cat….
Lot of money for not a particularly light frame, especially when you consider it has a crappy pressfit bottom bracket and no front mech hanger. However, that probably means it doesn’t handle like a piece of over cooked spaghetti. Build looks lovely though. Shame about the socks on the outside of the tights!!!!!
Heavy fork, not a particularly light frame (especially for a 54cm)... and this is supposed to be a lightweight bike?? A shim for the front mech band?? Then again, his other bike is a Field, and they're basically boat anchors, so I guess this must feel light to him. Parts list full of fragile parts (except the eeBrakes, they're the best in the market) - looks like he's gone with a middle weight frame and fork, a reliable groupset and the other parts: light, expensive and fragile (that Berk saddle for example - can't tell you how many Berk products I've seen fail miserably). Not something I'd like to be flying down a col at 90kph on thanks very much.
POOT! Somebody open a window.
What constitutes a light frame for you? This one has a headset and hangers in it
@@JS-tb9hu For a 54cm frame? 800 grams. For a rim brake fork? 220 grams.
Kim Roberts what uncut fork weighs 220g? A THM scapula with 300mm steerer is 280g . Also, his frame is including the headset, hanger so take those out the equation and you will be in the 800’s for the frame only.
Btw, my Berk saddle has been used for a few years and has an everesting and high rouleur under its belt. Still going strong.
@@1977markfielding Good for you. I've seen many Berk products fail - both positions are anecdotal, both have validity. Nobody rides an uncut steerer, weight the fork cut and ready to ride. I AM talking about a frame with the hanger and headset - at a 54cm that should weight @800 grams. Not my fault his frame and fork are heavy for what they are, he's the one claiming they're ultra light, I'm pointing out that no, they're not ultra light.
looks like a cannondale supersix copy and it is not even that light, 700g vs 900g is a big difference. 373g for fork lol, my 10 year old Swork Roubaix fork is lighter than that
Nice frame and brakes with shitty components.
Reaching pro film making quality bro, chapeau!
Just finished removing the decals and paint from my Deda Superleggera seatpost.
Love the look and thanks for the advice !
You did it again, outstanding intro!!
I find this kind of videos about bike building oddly satisfying.
Another great vid, Tobias! You are becoming quite the professional!
Super dope tec stuff ... lov'n it guys!! OK, do some free weights for the upper body...just a little!
Nice Bike !!!
Frame/fork are pretty but heavy for such a lightweight bike :/ !
Frame weight was with head set, seat post collar, hanger included so you can probably shave off 150-200g if you wanna compare it to the big brands "naked weight" claims.
But there's no denying there's lighter frames out there... but that's where taste come in to the equation :)
This is my dream, ride on road bike in Japan
I thought the bike was the eye candy here, but then the climbs happened, whoa!🗻🚵♀️ Great video dude!
super light !
Great fun. The intro was fantastic Who's more excited Dom or Tobias? I'm curious how the eeBrakes work out. Make sure Dom is careful transporting the bike. If the front wheel swings freely, the top of the eeBrake can contact the downtube.
Haha, it's har to contain my excitement when a new bare frame is about to be unveiled ;p
Coming from his disc bike he was surprised how good they where... obviously not disc level good but considering the the weight savings, the first impressions are promising.
Cheers for the heads up!
Great video! What is the music you used in it? Is this an instrumental version of Time of My Life · Mayowa Akande? Where did you get it? Thanks in advance!
Hi, all the music I use is from Epidemic Sounds which is a subscription service for video creators.
Is it the last song you mean, it called Butterfield 1 by Marc Torch
@@ridesofjapan That's the one! Thank you!!!
What waist pack do you use that fits all those things? Must have to cinch it pretty tight around your waist to keep the weight from moving the pack around.
Sol M haha, yeah, drone goes in my frame bag actually, GoPro and camera in the Fanny pack.
Just wanted to show of my “taboo” way of carrying gear to piss of the roadies 😜
I’ve come to the realization that a Fanny pack is the best way to carry gear on your person as it zero strain on your back when riding.
@@ridesofjapan haha 👍
He forgot to say "laterally stiff but vertically compliant" when reviewing the bike.
Whery nice bike
is it tradeable with a kidney and one lung? hahaha
Haha, you need that lung to ride it though 😅
Wicked video and bike but are you not going to re-clear coat the seatpost?
Mark did a lot of research on this and came to the conclusion that it *might* not be necessary. A bit of car wax for UV protection. Since the bike are kept inside as well they are not really exposed to the elements apart from the actual riding.
So it’s a bit of test, If something unexpected happens with them I will do a follow up.
This is only in context of the seatpost, A full frame might be a different story though.
Personally I didn’t think the graphics were that bad hehe
But not my bike so :)
j.ablitt quite a few people apply 303 aerospace protectant. I just went with big standard car wax and it seems to be holding up absolutely fine so far.
Im sure it will be fine just thinking you'll probably have to re-apply car wax down the line. For me I would just want the carbon sealed again permanently just so not to chance it.... carbon seatpost's tweek me out enough as is hahaha
Beautiful build by the way!
Cool...
Im trying to convince my wife i need a new bike. Takes a while
Peter De Ruiter finger crossed 🤞😁
I hear you! Try a wife and three kids that come before toy purchases. 😁. I always get the impressions from these videos that none of these guys have wives, partners or kids?
Jason Peters haha, nope, no kids here. Just looking at how kids has affected my riding mates “cycling life”, I don’t think I’m getting any either 😜
Don't ask for permission...beg for forgiveness.
かっこいい!!
素晴らしい👏!!
I've got the same experience with the Scalatore. Excellent frame
6,1 kg and he barely was able to hold it in his wobbly arm... OMFG... it’s opposition of gym “storks” with thin legs.
Another carbon bike. Meh!
