    Jumping to the 200 grit didn’t polish out any of the larger gouges made by the 600. Start at 600, then 800, then 1000, then 1200 and maybe to 2000 if needed. Smaller steps will equal and more even finish and way less scratches!!

    Lot of money for not a particularly light frame, especially when you consider it has a crappy pressfit bottom bracket and no front mech hanger. However, that probably means it doesn’t handle like a piece of over cooked spaghetti. Build looks lovely though. Shame about the socks on the outside of the tights!!!!!

  • @KimHDRoberts
    @KimHDRoberts 5 лет назад +2

    Heavy fork, not a particularly light frame (especially for a 54cm)... and this is supposed to be a lightweight bike?? A shim for the front mech band?? Then again, his other bike is a Field, and they're basically boat anchors, so I guess this must feel light to him. Parts list full of fragile parts (except the eeBrakes, they're the best in the market) - looks like he's gone with a middle weight frame and fork, a reliable groupset and the other parts: light, expensive and fragile (that Berk saddle for example - can't tell you how many Berk products I've seen fail miserably). Not something I'd like to be flying down a col at 90kph on thanks very much.

      @@1977markfielding Good for you. I've seen many Berk products fail - both positions are anecdotal, both have validity. Nobody rides an uncut steerer, weight the fork cut and ready to ride. I AM talking about a frame with the hanger and headset - at a 54cm that should weight @800 grams. Not my fault his frame and fork are heavy for what they are, he's the one claiming they're ultra light, I'm pointing out that no, they're not ultra light.

    looks like a cannondale supersix copy and it is not even that light, 700g vs 900g is a big difference. 373g for fork lol, my 10 year old Swork Roubaix fork is lighter than that

    Frame/fork are pretty but heavy for such a lightweight bike :/ !

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 лет назад +1

      Frame weight was with head set, seat post collar, hanger included so you can probably shave off 150-200g if you wanna compare it to the big brands "naked weight" claims.
      But there's no denying there's lighter frames out there... but that's where taste come in to the equation :)

    Great fun. The intro was fantastic Who's more excited Dom or Tobias? I'm curious how the eeBrakes work out. Make sure Dom is careful transporting the bike. If the front wheel swings freely, the top of the eeBrake can contact the downtube.

      Haha, it's har to contain my excitement when a new bare frame is about to be unveiled ;p
      Coming from his disc bike he was surprised how good they where... obviously not disc level good but considering the the weight savings, the first impressions are promising.
      Cheers for the heads up!

    What waist pack do you use that fits all those things? Must have to cinch it pretty tight around your waist to keep the weight from moving the pack around.

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 лет назад

      Sol M haha, yeah, drone goes in my frame bag actually, GoPro and camera in the Fanny pack.
      Just wanted to show of my “taboo” way of carrying gear to piss of the roadies 😜
      I’ve come to the realization that a Fanny pack is the best way to carry gear on your person as it zero strain on your back when riding.

    Wicked video and bike but are you not going to re-clear coat the seatpost?

    • @ridesofjapan
      @ridesofjapan  5 лет назад

      Mark did a lot of research on this and came to the conclusion that it *might* not be necessary. A bit of car wax for UV protection. Since the bike are kept inside as well they are not really exposed to the elements apart from the actual riding.
      So it’s a bit of test, If something unexpected happens with them I will do a follow up.
      This is only in context of the seatpost, A full frame might be a different story though.
      Personally I didn’t think the graphics were that bad hehe
      But not my bike so :)

      j.ablitt quite a few people apply 303 aerospace protectant. I just went with big standard car wax and it seems to be holding up absolutely fine so far.

    • @famousboy182
      @famousboy182 5 лет назад +1

      Im sure it will be fine just thinking you'll probably have to re-apply car wax down the line. For me I would just want the carbon sealed again permanently just so not to chance it.... carbon seatpost's tweek me out enough as is hahaha
