Awesome! TIP: There is also an easy way to do it. (no copy/paste of swatches needed) 1. Install Adobe 2022 2. Open Adobe 2023 3. Go to Swatches>Open Swatch Library>Other Library> 4. Locate the swatch from Adobe 2022 folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator 2022\Presets\en_US\Swatches\Color Books) for PC 5. you're done!
I'm very unimpressed with Adobe/Pantone but massively impressed with the design community for taking the time to show us these brilliant workarounds. I never realized the real implications of the Pantone issues until this week as I embarked on my first Pantone colour job of 2023. I can't thank you enough for producing such a brilliant video. I salute you, sir!
Thank you so much for this! I was able to get the swatches from 27.0 for my Illustrator 2024, thankfully. Your video was so easy to follow. Thank you for doing this!
This is a great workaround, thank you so much. It just shows us all how greedy and egotistical these software powerhouses are…. Shocking behaviour which seriously impacted all our workflow.
Looks like Adobe caught on/changed thing and now it says, "...provides installers for only our current apps and the previous major version of each...". So as far as I know this workaround will not work anymore, unless you have a non-prescription app that you bought directly from Adobe and registered it. It you know of a newer workaround, help let me know.
That appearance box tip was awesome. I've been trying to figure out for years why I had to press the shift key with the eyedropper to get a color. No more!
Thank you, this video was super helpful. I could no longer access Illustrator 2022 on CC, but fortunately my laptop still had a 2023 version to follow your steps to create the .ase file and I've emailed it to my desktop system where Pantone colors are now accessible again.
Thank you so much. Following your instructions, I can now include PANTONE + Solid Coated in my adobe 2023 swatch library after I downloaded the last version of adobe 2022 v 26.5.3. Your training is really good.
Thank you for posting this. You started the ball rolling and saved me! I ended up using the copy/paste .ase method that @cwecreative posted below ("this is great - really helped but you can just copy the .ase files from version 22 and paste into the new versions swatches folder for illustrator, indesign and photoshop. saves you exporting each of the colour files"), from 2022 to 2023. Thank goodness for Time Machine...I went back and grabbed all Adobe CC 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 just in case for future use! Jason, You Rock...thanks again!!!
Thank you! Your video is so helpful. Although I wasn't able to install the version 26.5 Illustrator, I was able to install the version 27 and that still works. Thanks again
I freakin' LOVE YOU for this hack!! 🤣 Ok. I couldn't get the 2022 Illustrator back on, perhaps because they caught on to you and the likes of you... heheh. BUT, not to worry. I had not tossed out my Bridge 2022. I followed your instructions from there. I'm back in the swatch game! 🙌🙌🙌 Thank you! Thank you!
THANK YOU!!! I have literally had to visually color match using my.chip books which is incredibly time consuming. Ridiculous that Pantone has monetized these industry standards colors.
Great! Thank you for sharing! Would you know a way to match colors that were chosen in the CMYK+Pantone to the Coated Solid Pantone color chart? As the usual way (changing manually: Edit color/Recolor artwork) does not work anymore, I have troubles on that now, and eye picking does not seem optimal. Thanks a lot!
Can anyone share the ASE file they have saved? I've looked on the previous versions, and Adobe have now removed all the versions pre-version 27.0!! So annoying!
Hola yo recien instale Photoshop la ultima version sin saber de este caso , y ahora lo necesito , necesito los colores , tienes algun link de donde podriamos descargarlo ?
Using the ASE instruction works as expected. When I quit and reopen the app, the swatches are gone. Is there a way to get Illustrator 2024 to keep the swatches in place? This was fantastic, by the way. Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing! Life saver! :D One question. Now that the Pantone colours are available again, is it possible to convert PANTONE+ CMYK (Coated/Uncoated) to PANTONE (Coated/Uncoated)? In this case my the clients logo was originally only available in CMYK and has to be converted to Pantone colours.
The quickest way to convert Pantone Spot colors to CMYK is to double-click on the spot color in the Swatches Panel. Spot colors will be shown as a Lab color. From the dropdown list were Lab is selected, chose CMYK. It will give the approximate break down into CMYK. Keep in mind that many spot colors have no CMYK equivalent that looks even remotely close to the Spot color. Other spot colors do convert and match well. There are also free, online convertors as well.
Brilliant, thanks so much. Work round for Mac, once you download the 2022 version. Just move "Pantone+ Solid Coated.acb" and "Pantone+ Solid Uncoated.acb" files from Illustrator 2022 - Presets - en_US - Swatches - Colour Books to the equivalent folder in the 2023 version. Photoshop is similar, but you have to move colour books AND colour swatches I think.
Thank you so much, I use Illustrator for work and we pay individually through our company, but I just could not bring myself to pay the monthly fee to get the PMS colors back in addition to the monthly program charges. This saved my messing up client artwork, thanks again! 👍💜
Thank you so much for this - I am trying to get Pantone colors into InDesign and there is no option to open a library. I was following and exported the .ase file, but I can't figure out how to open in InDesign, there doesn't seem to be a correct option. Can you help?
Awesome! TIP: There is also an easy way to do it. (no copy/paste of swatches needed)

5. you're done!

Wow this method saved me, so so quick!
Thank you, my hero!

Thanks! :)

Amazing Jason. The Old versions are though no avalable now, nothing later than 27.0. But your way #2 did give me luck. Thank you.
December 2023, oldest available version is 27.0 to install throught Creative Cloud, fortunately there are still pantone colors in it, thanks!
This is a great workaround, thank you so much.
It just shows us all how greedy and egotistical these software powerhouses are…. Shocking behaviour which seriously impacted all our workflow.
You're welcome! Glad it worked out.
Yesss this worked great! Thank you for saving the design community from corporate greed !!
Thank you!!! Been looking for a easy and legit way to use spot colors!!!!
Glad this helps, many people were looking for a good solution to this and since many have been with Adobe for a long time, this is the easiest way!

Excellent, right to the point, well spoken, and it worked. You my friend, are a professional!
Thank you kindly!

THANK YOU!!! I have literally had to visually color match using my.chip books which is incredibly time consuming. Ridiculous that Pantone has monetized these industry standards colors.

Can you help me out? My Illustrator app doesn't show previous versions of it before 27, any idea of how can I get those pantone solids?
Also having the same problem and wondering whether they've cottoned onto this?
@@sarahloveday6494 I installed the 27 version, copied the files and pasted on 2024 version, it's working just fine

Thanks for the tip!
top stuff Jason
