Thank you for providing such an amazing piece of footage! The difference between the Indian sets and that of most other videos on mace swinging is the technique. The Indian way focuses alot more in moving the entire body, pay close attention on this and other of Pauls great footage on the way they move their legs and rotation of the hips. This allows them to swing the weight much more fluidly. Visualise moving from the ground up. Happy swinging everyone.
There's a trick to their mace swinging, as in the Cobra video, I get it now a bit where they swing those dumb bells. It's similar. Fascinating. Also, I see blue paint coming off on his shoulders from the clubs. That is interesting as well.
i genuinely thank you for educating my culture to me... i doubt we even have such akharas in mumbai anymore. watching this i am seriously planning to make a gada using an earthenware filled with concrete/cement and one strong steel rod, may be wooden... I already lift 10 kgs per dumbbell and its kind of challenge to lift after 17 to 20 reps; considering that, can u plz suggest an ideal gada weight? if I some how make it, i will try to upload a DIY tutorial to make a gada at home... and thank you for everything....
Well thank u for ur reply Paul, but the thing is I already made one... It turned out to be good... Its roughly around twelve kgs with an over confidence now I can hardly swing it :P I am going to give a 2nd attempt in some days, but this time it would be around 5 kgs. But it was a great experience... I will try to make a video this time. Hopefully u may like it :D
Just curious at the fact that the clubs are not the same weight, why does the dominant side have to work harder?? Won't that create imbalances between the left and right side?
OnlyRoundCube Good question, the dominant side is always going to be stronger and the thinking is, that if that is the case then the dominant side should work harder to compensate for the weaker side. I didn't agree with this in the first place, but have tried it since I came back from my last trip and I think there's a lot of logic and sense in the concept.
Hi Hank, The complete length including the ball/head should be 4' or 4'6" max. Bamboo handles are best because they are lightweight, wood is a bit heavier just make sure it is sanded smooth to avoid splinters. Metal handles are too heavy in my opinion, but they work, be aware that the extra weight of the handle changes the dynamics of the swing. have a look at my instructions, www.indianclubs.com.au/gada-mace/home-made-clay-pot-gada-mace/
No I don't live in India, I came to train, video and research Gada & Jori Club swinging as part of my tour this year. I'm off to Iran tomorrow to visit their Zurkhaneh training. Very excited.
Great clip. Thanks for still keeping the ancient Indian art of Gadha training alive.

Do you find any real differences between jori and meels?
Sky colour gada is made by which element...
There seems to be a common movement. Curious. Which muscles benefit from this movement? Core and lats?
How long are the gada handles? I would like to make a few for myself. Do you feel that a wooden handle is best or would metal pipe work just as well?

That sounds alright! I do my Indian research via Curry. I'd have no chance of getting fit in India. Yum.
