Inflation is low because we;re very dependent on rain-fed agriculture, and we've had 3 straight seasons of good rains, after 5 consecutive seasons of failed reasons. Secondly the IMF has come through with loans to help offset previous loans and therefore avert default like other African countries have done. We're a western puppet country so we get "favors" like that, which is just kicking the can down the road. This made our currency strengthen very fast after a steep fall 1 - 2 years ago, which has in turn reduced the cost of imports. Food inflation is the only good indicator (perhaps besides tourism numbers) though. Practically everything else is bad
Millennials and the generations that preceded them have fundamentally failed us. Their obsession with decorum and maintaining appearances has led to a culture of complacency and inaction. That's how you have a nation that has a tax system that works for even the brokest of the broke. I cannot stress this enough; if you cannot understand why production is the necessary action, you will never understand why the overwhelming majority of Africa -- including all of the island nations -- are firmly in third-world status. Look at the products in the video. Tecno stores, iPhones, wireless mics (probably DJI/Rode/Shure/Sennheiser/AKG), Nike shoes, Converse shoes (part of Nike), Canon cameras, Toyota cars, Chinese speakerphones, German riot guns, the list goes on. Look at what company this video was recorded for. Look at what app/site is hosting the video. Nothing that was mentioned is made in Kenya or owned by any company in Kenya. Decisions being made on your behalf is exactly what a Representative Democracy looks like. We voted them in, they promised austerity, this is what it looks like.
I am a Kenyan and Ruto....the president, has refused to listen to his people. His MPs(204) were paid each Ksh 2 million to pass a finance bill that will see an increase in taxes for the employed, resulting in at least 42% taxes in our paychecks. He also does not address the fact that our lands, passed down through inheritance will now become state owned should the bill be passed. We cannot be leasing our ancestral lands from the government. The bill is punitive and crippling, and it will see our already hard lives become impossible to live. The Kenyan youth are fighting for a better future which this bill now threatens.
Come to think about it, it's not about the finance Bill, it's about the wastage, the lies, the corruption. This government cannot account for any cent taxpayers pay, all we see is few individuals living large at our expense.
I think it is more of a protest against the current leadership/governance. People are tired of lies and the uncaring attitude of the current leadership

Governments all over the world are not serving the people.. Kenyan demonstrations are an inspiration. We need to support our young people & not create systems in the world that use them as commodities to be abused by corporations and pillaged by governments.
Unity is strength go go youths of Kenyan..
Hongera wakenya,hongera mayuth
We're Kenya 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 🇰🇪 and this means more.
as a child of second liberation in 1990s, where youths were even shot dead while protesting for a better kenya , i am now hopeful that fire is still there..and the current generation more informed. hawa ni moto...
This wouldn't work in countries like the US. The difference in strength between the government and the citizens is way too large
100% we do see where the tax goes and who it goes to
It goes to the people in government!!! Their houses get bigger and so is the stomach…
The journalist's voice is soothing
I cry for the oppression of our young youth in the kenyan streets .
Ruto must go
It's not too early to say,it's the right time to say it.A new Era 🇰🇪
As Kenyans,we lead the way,so we're not doing this for our personal empowerment but also for the whole Africa....in general!
Yayyy...Gen Z that's the spirit..proudly Kenyan🇰🇪
African youths are braver than their Indian counterparts 😐
Proud of Kenyans.
The luckiest country is kenya
The country of God.
You can call it new jerusalem
The word is proposed, they have proposed to make amendments they have not actually taken the controversial issues out...
In Africa when you see the West loving your president, you must know that he is not there to save you but to save the Western imperialisties.
I'm happy for this fearless youths💪
be safe everyone and keep fighting for your rights❤❤
We are tired of bad decisions in this government especially affordable houses finance bill

This protest is a history
It's always the younger generation what are you talking about. It's always been the University students
I think it is more of a protest against the current leadership/governance. People are tired of lies and the uncaring attitude of the current leadership

Kenyan 🇰🇪 The people of have the right to protests against the economic downturn because it shows the economic disapproval of the country struggling with the problems of high cost of living.
Yessss!!! How do we support them?
