I listen to odschool dubstep while driving and when ever i see an eighteen wheeler on the highway i think about what an amazing combonation the feelings of listening to heavy tune while driving a big heavy rig must be
I arrived on the dubstep scene in 2010. The first track I ever listened to was "Ganja White Night - Strawberry Cough." I haven't stopped listening to dubstep since 2010. Since that time, I've branched through all dubstep, or as much of it as I could find. My preference lies in the old stuff: Coki, Mala, old Rusko, old Distance. Sure, I like some of Flux Pavilion's tunes, some of Rusko's newer stuff, some of Phear Phace's. The old stuff still is and always be the best and most real dubstep to me.
I always come back to the OGs at some point in the year, just hits different, could be the passage of time, the good memories, or the fact it stands out - whatever it is, I always find my way back
you're right, there's no longer a cocoon or incubation period in which genre's can develop themselves. everything is starting to sound alike and the inovative ideas get lost in the sea.
Mala played the West Coast recently, I hyped the local show for a week. Got a decent crowd out, but I was the only OG, which means Mala is still out there making new fans.
Glad I bought this on wax, in my opinion I think It's so unique and I always appreciate a listen! Horrid Henry on the other hand JESUS WHAT A BANGER, pure coki tune haha
I'm pretty new to Mala and my exposure to dubstep is pretty limited, considering I love in the US, but I'm happy to have discovered them. They make me inspired enough to want to start making my own stuff. Already play guitar and bass but I'd love to make my own dubstep. Such a unique genre and there's so many subgenres
wavering pitch bend on the saw wave synth - that's the key here assign an LFO to the pitch of your oscillator synth and dial it down to a cool 12%. immediate analog flavor
I think it encouraging that these people have a strong opinion about their music, it shows that it means something to them. If you really understood where dubstep came from and the bastardisation that has been inflicted on a seriously respected genre you'de get why these people are rightfully pissed off
to everyone arguing, i actually watched an interview with mala and he said he hates the concept of always labelling music and musical genres, he almost got angry when the interviewer kept asking him if he considered himself a dubstep artist
Thank you. It is nice to see others doing some youtube educating. However, I beleive Rusko is BACK...have you heard his new album? It's still pretty commercial but damn did he bring his roots back. Check it!
I'm sorry...I know this my second comment but f*** me!!! ...this tune is just jaw dropping...the kick drums are definitely the highlight for me...the second half is just amazing!!
You're right. The irony is that most of them (us) are 15-year olds who just checked out the wikipedia page for "dubstep" after hearing a Doctor P tune in a Call of Duty montage or something, and now they're grand fucking masters of "old skool vibez" who can rant about UKF with passion. No "EDM" candy paint-ravers hang around on Knife Party videos bitching about how boring DMZ records are. It makes us seem like butthurt hipsters when we complain about them. Let them be, to each his own! Peace!
aries6776 Enjoying music beyond "OH HERE'S THE DROP SOOOOOON" isn't pompous. Having an iota of taste isn't pompous. Dubstep can have a lot of pretty profound feelings and sounds design going on in it, Mala being a prime example of that kind of dubstep.
god damn this tune is absolutely perfect... if anyone can lead me in the direction of any artists or tracks similar to this it would be highly appreciated
dem So this is Mala who is 1/2 of Digital Mystikz (the other half being Coki) and runes the Deep Medi record label. Google all of the names above along with a guy named V.I.V.E.K. and his label SYSTEM. Welcome to good music.
@sidi067, it's funny to read the arguments people have on youtube, isn't it. I don't usually comment, but I feel like you're there for the music more than to participate in stupid arguments. big up, all youtubers should be like you
It's obvious that what's relatively "better" is up to one's preferences, but let's face it: Skrillex never made dubstep. Digital Mystikz made dubstep from the beginning of this genre. For those who still think that Skrillex make/made dubstep, learn the two simple words: Electro House. Now everything is clear... I hope.
Dude, Skrillex did make dubstep, atleast when he started. Remember Scary monsters and nice sprites? that's dubstep, 140 bpm and everything. He does plenty of different stuff nowadays, but he does very few electro house, and when he does, it sounds different than other electro house.
Scary Monsters is brostep. No smooth subbass line, no *dub*, just (2-)*step* and lots and lots of wicked, aggressive, barely melodic, earbursting FM formant sound.
they do release separately but only on some e.g loefah has goat stare which says "built by loefah"instead of "digital mystikz and coki has quite a few such as spongebob and the end to his own name and revolution and haymaker
this is for certain one of the greatest dubstep tracks of all time to me
@Drifter11 this for sure is dubstep
@Drifter11 ‘tis
@Drifter11 its just not the skrillex type of dubstep youre probably accustomed to. this is dubstep for sure mate
I drive 18 wheels listening to organic DUBSTEP like this tune right here. EVERYDAY.
That's badass. I was wondering just the other day if there are any semi drivers that listen to dubstep while driving haha.
always wanted to do that bro
always
are you the guy that got pulled over for having a studio setup in his semi? lmao
My man.
I listen to odschool dubstep while driving and when ever i see an eighteen wheeler on the highway i think about what an amazing combonation the feelings of listening to heavy tune while driving a big heavy rig must be
So weird hearing this after 10 years since I first heard it. Incredible
A timeless journey
Back again me
When the bass kicked in my house started shaking, such a massive tune.
Kicked in the doorways in the four four
All ya heard was Mala don’t hit me no more
Listened to this on the morning of my first day at college.
Still brings back that feeling 4 years later.
thats friggin cool. big ups
y did u choose this song for first day of college
education
kek
Glassy records that’s insane
Tracks like these are why Mala is THE dubstep artist. He's able to branch out a little while still keeping it his own. It just sounds amazing.
he still pushing it his solo mixes are beyond, and he still keeping it real and true years on legend, never selling out
Mala is the Don!!
Kino take from a decade ago. Crazy, it seems like another life
I always come back to the OGs at some point in the year, just hits different, could be the passage of time, the good memories, or the fact it stands out - whatever it is, I always find my way back
And that's why we stay underground! Where the music is true and sounds great!
2022 and still dark af! Heavy
I saw him last night playing here in Austin Texas...shit was toooo live
everybody was jumpin up and down.....had a good time
Toronto is enjoying the DMZ deepness
Mala played this on Saturday a System, everyone put lighters in the air, it felt like I was at a religious gathering of PURE VIBES!
you're right, there's no longer a cocoon or incubation period in which genre's can develop themselves. everything is starting to sound alike and the inovative ideas get lost in the sea.
Two huge tunes on this release. Quality.
Mala played the West Coast recently, I hyped the local show for a week. Got a decent crowd out, but I was the only OG, which means Mala is still out there making new fans.
Was this at the public works in SF? My first and only time seeing Mala, that 1.5 hours was too short
@@slightlypermafried small town hundreds of miles north of SF, pretty awesome for him to travel out so far into the sticks!
This tune is just so special. Horrid Henry on the flipside too, jeez!
Pure reverence for this tune
Glad I bought this on wax, in my opinion I think It's so unique and I always appreciate a listen! Horrid Henry on the other hand JESUS WHAT A BANGER, pure coki tune haha
definitely one of DM's best
+Falkreath Guard The best tune released on DMZ imo. This tune really does something to me...
Agreed
12 years since I went to my first set - DMZ in Nottingham. Life changing.
Never gets old, big tune
If you want to look into "Old School" Jamaican dub, look at King Tubby. London Dub in the late 70's is best exemplified by the -Mad- Scientist
Some Dystopian pain on this one. Glad to own the wax
This track gets me in the guts every time I listen to it...
this tune grows on you, when i first heard it i didn't think much of it, now it's my favourite dmz tune
5:01 is one of my favourite moments in the history of music
MY GOD YESSSS!!! THANK YOU for restoring my faith in humanity!!!
One of the best Mala tracks
Such a big artist in this genre.
His sounds are so orginal en chillng.
no mainstream dubstep for me xD
Big up Mala!
BIG UPS
Big up DJ Wanka.
The synths remind me of Boards of Canada. :) Diggin' this label's back catalogue.:D
wavering pitch bend on the saw wave synth - that's the key here
assign an LFO to the pitch of your oscillator synth and dial it down to a cool 12%. immediate analog flavor
one of my absolute favourites. goosebumps
mala & coki are just amazing!
That synth line is crisp.
This is unbelievable...such a good tune...the progression is just beautiful
Big respect for DMZ!! thanks for up man
This is still one of my favourite tracks... So so good.
Educate & meditate
hell yeah man I was there too, so fun. DMZ will be in Houston @ Warehouse Live on the 14th ahh
sounds swell buddy - i just bloody love good music
Digital Mystikz = DMZ = Mala & Coki, now I get it!
I think it encouraging that these people have a strong opinion about their music, it shows that it means something to them. If you really understood where dubstep came from and the bastardisation that has been inflicted on a seriously respected genre you'de get why these people are rightfully pissed off
Don’t wipe your opinions on my music
Thanks
So gutted I track this one down after it sold out, so good.
How does this shit hit so hard nearly 15 years later ?
Definitely a Mala masterpiece.
15 years? lmao
"He" lmao
hella yeah. love this tune man, got this on vinyl as soooon as it came out yes yes
Nice times
to everyone arguing, i actually watched an interview with mala and he said he hates the concept of always labelling music and musical genres, he almost got angry when the interviewer kept asking him if he considered himself a dubstep artist
this was in my playlist while doing homework. wow, rood.

copped on wax. life is goood
All of my unspeakable feelings are in this song’s make-up.
probably the best way to describe it
Thank you. It is nice to see others doing some youtube educating. However, I beleive Rusko is BACK...have you heard his new album? It's still pretty commercial but damn did he bring his roots back. Check it!
something about the melody makes me think the sky is about the split open and the world will end
Mt Eden has the production quality of someone who'd been making music for about 3 weeks to it.
Time Signals Education for everyone on this planet..................
THIS IS MUSIC OMGAWD!!!!
Love it!!!
I'm sorry...I know this my second comment but f*** me!!! ...this tune is just jaw dropping...the kick drums are definitely the highlight for me...the second half is just amazing!!
So true Jenny!
You're right.
The irony is that most of them (us) are 15-year olds who just checked out the wikipedia page for "dubstep" after hearing a Doctor P tune in a Call of Duty montage or something, and now they're grand fucking masters of "old skool vibez" who can rant about UKF with passion.

just signin in.
Simply amazing
flux pavillion should listen to this song, so he knows what a real bass cannon feels like.
Timeless
Beatiful.
welcome to the roots of magic
Great track to start a set with
got this 12" in the post today whoooo
still a great tune
Got this, I think it's very strange and i love it!
Who else LOVES the drop @ 3:43?
Its not about drop, its about the vibe that you feel in the music.
Jyrki Yx can you be any more pompous?
Yeah, but not today.
yeah and the bit at 3:56...get's me tingling every time!
aries6776 Enjoying music beyond "OH HERE'S THE DROP SOOOOOON" isn't pompous. Having an iota of taste isn't pompous. Dubstep can have a lot of pretty profound feelings and sounds design going on in it, Mala being a prime example of that kind of dubstep.
It is slang. It actually derives from German. The word 'freichen' which means 'to strike.'
This Is A True Statement
My house started shaking bro wtf
o my days this one is really good 0.0
god damn this tune is absolutely perfect... if anyone can lead me in the direction of any artists or tracks similar to this it would be highly appreciated

Karma, VIVEK, Las, Gantz, Quest, Foamplate, Goth-Trad, dig into the labels these guys have released on and just keep going from there 👍
+dem
It's great music isn't it?
Real dubstep
+dem Try "Mala - Level Nine" you are going to like it. And also "Kode9 - Nine Samurai" & "Burial - Distant Lights"
+dem why has noone mentioned Skream? SP:MC, L-Wiz, Kryptic Minds, Nomine, all pretty sick.
Relax This is Good Music
@sidi067, it's funny to read the arguments people have on youtube, isn't it. I don't usually comment, but I feel like you're there for the music more than to participate in stupid arguments. big up, all youtubers should be like you
indeed, everybody else is probably just too chill or faded to even care
Whenever I hear that awful midrange noise somewhere I just come back to Mala and he calms me down.
You are one of the greatest trolls ever. 1 up.
I hope.
Cyberholix is on point, but you John are a little over enthusiastic
+cyberholix
We will make the deep side great again. Deep, chilled, meditating dubstep will be understood.
I'd say the More Monsters EP is truer to dubstep. You heard Ruffneck (FLEX)? Not the shite full flex one though lol.
they do release separately but only on some e.g loefah has goat stare which says "built by loefah"instead of "digital mystikz and coki has quite a few such as spongebob and the end to his own name and revolution and haymaker
That game is awesome
Purrfect.
The bridge is fucking mad, I love it
still big
this is a classic
looking forward to SUBDUB. DDDDMMMMMZZZZZ
Nice pic Susannah XD
