That was a wonderful mix of art and science. I don't know anymore if I love the carbon mic or the tube SDCs more! And Ben Andrew's playing was hypnotic. But I must say, for a "standard" piano sound, the pair of DPA mics really impressed me. Could I ask what preamps were used? Because the sound in phenomenal!
Absolutely! Beautiful 'rendering'. After filming this I ended up hunting around the retailers to see what the 3 - set costs. Although not cheap I reckon they're well worth it.. Thanks for watching :-)
Thank you for this video of such generous length! Love the 260s in that quasi Decca tree and might have to make that happen for myself! I’m curious, when setting up this configuration is there any trick to minimizing phasing or is phasing part of how the setup “locates” the sound?
We are going to be doing a piano recording event in London late September, if you're here ping me a message and will add you to the list so you can come over and speak with Stefano about his approach in person :-)
@@RecordProduction What a happy thought that is! I’m afraid I’ll be stateside, as we say in the…states. I’ve been wanting to make it to the UK though in the near-ish future. Maybe I’ll try to coordinate then. Thank you!
Absolutely love that you guys are doing this type of video! Thank You!! Sincerely, Rob Gilmore (your mastering client from Florida, USA).
