Great video I am just about to install a sand filter for my 15 x 48 Intex Ultra frame swimming pool. thanks for the tips for I am a novice and we'll watch your video over and over again for guidance... Great idea about the hose clamps and Teflon tape never thought of that but makes total sense
Just got that skimmer yesterday for our 12' metal frame pool, along with upgraded 1500 gph pump. Thing works AMAZING. I had all kinds of bugs and other junk on the water surface, and it was all gone within 15 minutes of running the pump with the skimmer.
Patrick94GSR yep. Makes a big difference. I also use mine to get the chlorine "up" when it's too low by adding a 1/2 tablet to the basket for a day or so.
well I might try it if I think it's needed. I finally got my chlorine levels up to where they should be this week. I just use shock and a floater thing with 1" tablets.
Great video! I was hoping you'd give more detailed instruction on how you leveled your pool the 2nd time. I'm about to get a pool and I want to install it myself. I'm just concerned about leveling it properly. I will get a sand filter for it too. Thanks!
Hi Randy. So sorry to bug you again but you seem like such an expert. I'm thinking about ordering a hose to attach to the pump to vacuum the bottom. I also saw you have a skimmer. Have you tried the vacuum method? I have lots of dirt at the bottom of my pool I guess from waiting too long to get a better pump. South Texas has a lot of dirt in the air!! Just wanted to see if the pump will eventually get rid of the sitting dirt. thanks a million.
I have tried the vacuum and it works ok. You have to make sure you get all of the air out of the hose you're using or it will get into the pump and cause problems. I have a brush that attaches to a hose and a pole. Works ok but the hose is a big piece of convoluted tubing and it traps air. My suggestion would be to get a cheap pool skimmer net with a long handle and keep stirring the debris up from the bottom of the pool, removing what you can by hand. It will eventually clear up. I may look for one of those automatic vacuums and let it work overnight.
Hi great video we are first timers at the pool thing we we bought the same filter as you my question is did you buy the motor or pump trying to figure out that and the grounding part as well so we don’t get electrical shock is that why you are talking about the conduit
I purchased the unit as a whole with the filter pump/ motor included. The plug is connected to a larger gauge extension cord with ground and plugged into a GFI receptacle. There is a grounding lug on the metal housing of the motor and I recommend using it. Looks like it would accommodate about a 6 gauge wire. I do not have mine grounded from the lug and have not for the 6+ years it’s been in service but I will correct that asap.
So I have a sight let different pool. Summer waves is the brand and it’s 16’x42”. I plan on upgrading the filter system since watching this video, but I would also like to use the skimmer. However I did notice that your pool has 3 inlets/outlets whereas mine only has 2 I believe. Do you know if the 3 inlets are required in order to use that skimmer or is there a way to set it up with the existing 2 inlets? Any suggestions would be helpful! Thank you so much for posting this video, very informative!
This pool has 2 inlets and 1 outlet. The inlets are connected via a “y” type connection and the outlet or return to the pool is a straight line from the pump back to the pool. If you only have a single inlet and outlet I think the pump might be too powerful for the skimmer float to operate correctly. From my experience, you have to balance the suction in order to make the float work properly. Honestly the skimmer is great when you can get it to work but it’s a pain. When the water level fluctuates from rain and evaporation you have to adjust the skimmer to maintain the correct level of the float and honestly I gave up on it after a couple of seasons. On this pool I had to experiment with covering one of the inlets with a plug with a hole in it to get the balance correct. I hope this helps and best of luck!
Hi great video ??? Hows your pump doing I'm looking to upgrade my pump and not sure if I should with game vs intex sand pump. I like that game pump comes with all extra pieces. Price wise intex is bit cheaper with out extras and better / more reviews. how has it held up and have 1 1/4 hoses held up with this pump. I have intex Ultra 15 x 48 round. With 1 1/ 4 hoses any restrictions on the pump what do you suggest is the best way to go and thank you for your videos
Benny G the filter is still doing pretty well. I think I might need a slightly bigger unit like the 75 but we are still up and running. The 4 way valve is getting a little hard to turn so I may see if it’s serviceable soon. Also, the strainer basket gasket broke and a replacement is almost $20!
Hey Randy Thanks for your videos, they've helped me tons. I just started up my new pool and got this Game 50D. It spit sand into the pool and then ran clear? That's normal right? How long will it take for this pump to clean it now though?
Yes. You probably should have rinsed the sand a bit more but it will be ok. You might have to vacuum the sand up after it settles but it should be fine after that.
@@TheRandykiser Oh thank you so much, you're the best. I'll let it settle tonight and vacuum in the morning. I was pretty bummed because I just finished setup and hoped to be swimming tomorrow. 😀 Great channel, I hope to try the fountain soon. 👍
One more thing does it have to be on a wood or plastic base, or can it sit on top of a metal crate? And do you use plunger valves? or what comes with the pool is fine
I used concrete foundation blocks. Not sure about metal; might be an electrical hazard. It's heavy when you add the sand but it's moveable. I have considered buying the plunger valves, but they are a little pricey. I just use the plastic stoppers that came with the pool. They work fine although not as convenient as the plunger valves.
Hi Randy, great video. I have a question. I am having a really hard time sealing and attaching the 4 way top part to the sand filter. Your clamps have way more gap than mine. Instructions say to go about 1/4 in. No matter how tight I go, water comes out the top. I can with little force pull the 4way part off the top. What am I missing? Thank you.
Mine went together pretty straight forward. Did you use a good silicone based lubricant? Coat the "O" ring with it and that will help seat it. It makes a big difference. I also think I used a drill driver when I assembled it.
Also, make sure the clamp is grabbing the 4 way valve and the sand tank. You may not be getting top and bottom parts inside the clamp. I pushed both 1/2's on as far as they would go by hand before I put the nuts and bolts to it.
I only coated the inside of the of tank where the seal meets the valve. I did not coat the O ring. I will try that. Does your valve lift off of the tank? Not that I expect you to go try 😄
+TheRandykiser OH MY GOSH. I'm so ashamed with myself. The clamp is not grabbing the bottom part of the valve, I tightened only the top part of tank. No wonder I kept scratching my head wondering how that was going to lock the valve to the tank. I paused the video at a good view of the clamp & see what you mean. The heat & sun combined with a long day got the worst of me. THANK YOU RANDY.
Well understand this is back when that filter was $170 on Amazon. It certainly worked a lot better than the cartridge filter that comes with the pool. The price point as of 2024 makes it a little bit less budget friendly I admit.
Thanks for the video! Pleassseee HELP! I recently bought this same setup from someone. But I’m not sure if I seem to be missing a piece or two? Also I’m not understanding where my pool hoses are supposed to connect with this? Happy to share photos, if your ok with leaving an email address 😬 Kids are crazy HOT 🥵 And i’m losing my mind trying to get this set up.😭 I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much! 🙏🏼
There's also another video of a guy that bought a conversion adapter from Amazon for $8 a pair or $17 for two pairs. Connects on the pump inlet and outlet. It allows a 1.5 sand pump to convert to the 1.25 hose in which will connect to your existing 1.25 original hose setup.
Hi! Just seeing your video. What intake/output adaptions did you use for the sand filter ? Our pool like yours just a bit bigger but the holes are small. Did you just push the intake into the hole or did you find a adapter that worked and then harnessed it with the stainless steel clamps? Thanks
Is this pump water proof? It’s going to be sitting right next to the pool and getting splashed on and is outside all the time so I just wanted to know how you’re dealing with that.
This filter has been sitting under my deck for about six years with no issues from water. I’m pretty sure all filters can withstand water splashing on them. I mean, they do get rained on.
I have this same setup. I tried to hook a vacuum to it with 1 1/2 inch vacuum hose. the suction wasn't cutting it. would switching to 1 1/4 inch vacuum hose increase the suction? I believe all the other intex hoses are 1 1/4.
I bought this exact same filter for my 14x42 and the difference was night and day.. Within 24hrs our water was crystal clear. I noticed in the manual it talks about a "closed" position on the 4 way valve, however it doesn't say closed anywhere on the filter. Is this a misprint or am I missing something?
Not really a big deal cause I'd probably never need that setting anyway, but I was just curious cause I noticed it in manual.. I took your advice and used a lot of Teflon tape and changed the clamps, and I haven't had 1 leak. Thanks for the vid and quick reply.
So my water goes into pool ok with the sand filter we bought but on the inside where the water goes out has the plastic cover that plugs up with leaves so they never can make it to the leaf catcher how do I remove this plastic piece
@TheRandyKiser We bought the skimmer basket, but our inlet from pool to pump doesn't allow us to remove the filter cover so that we can screw in the skimmer baskets connector. Was there a special attachment required or something to make that work?
TheRandykiser yes except ours doesn't appear to be a screw on for some reason. We tried unscrewing it, from the inside of course, and it doesn't budge.
Our Homegrown Nest I know you can find those online or at the pool store. There are lots of options for connecting a hose to the inlet. I’m using the skimmer fitting to attach my hose right now and it’s working.
I have this same filter and it’s leaking. Because I forgot to apply the Teflon tape. So how would I take it apart without having to loose water from our pool?
Lola Puente if you have plunger valves just close them. If not, you will need to use the black stoppers. Take off the strainers over each inlet and put a stopper over each one. You should only lose the water in the lines to the filter. Your third option (if you don’t have plunger valves or stoppers) is to loosen the end of each hose, one at a time, and remove the end attached to the pump. Have someone hold the end above the water level if the pool while you apply Teflon tape and the put the hose back on and tighten the clamp. This will be the messiest option.
I just bought this filter system yesterday I connected it and the water that is pumped into the pool and I have a very weak stream.... would you happen to know why?
mima luna well I’m not sure. It could be any number of things: make sure the selector is set to filtration, make sure your plunger valves are open all the way or your inlets aren’t plugged, and make sure you have the correct amount of sand in the filter. Those are the first things that come to mind.
TheRandykiser thank you so much for your time and reply! I found the problem, the water wasn’t fully above above the filters to maintain a strong stream! Lol I should have known that 🤦🏼♀️
Hello, quick question on the Sandpro 50D...When backwashing and rinsing, do we unscrew the waste connection on the top or the drain connection on the bottom?
Adam Gonzalez it’s the one on the top. One thing you can do is connect a 1 1/4” outlet to the waste port and clamp a backwash hose to it permanently. That’s what I have now and it makes a big difference. Gets the water well away from the pool. Just roll it back up when I’m done.
The white cover should just unscrew and can be removed. After that there is another "strainer" that helps the plugs seat when you need to change hoses or whatever. Evita Soto you have 2 options: turn off the plunger valves if you have them or plug the inlets. Then open the pre filter.
Where can I get the adapters you used to hook up the hoses
Jerry Andrade all of the adapters you see either came with the pool or with the sand filter.
I have the same setup and everything but I'm getting sand at the bottom of my pool
Any suggestions would be great
Tasi Welley are you sure it's sand? If so, your sand filter may be too full of sand. It might be mustard algae. Very common especially after a rain.
Do I turn it off by just unplugging it from GFI?
Yes, unless you install a timer with a switch. There is no on/off switch on the 50D. I assume they intend for the unit to be used with a timer.
TheRandykiser thank you so much!
Question is that salt sistem or how that works
Juventino Hernandez it’s just a sand filter.
Do you still like this filter?
Yep! Works like a champ. Run it for about 6 hours a day every day.

where di you got the hose?
MARVIN Bugarin all of the hoses either came with the pool, filter or skimmer.
