The Toccata is the only piece from this suite that I played. There are some horrendously difficult places in it to play. It also helps to have huge hands. It is a beatiful piece of music.
Gieseking's playing is usually very interesting (at least). I think his control of dynamics, timbre, and voicing here is completely unique. It is so refreshing to hear this repertoire not destroyed by over-pedalling and sloppy rubato. It is sad that he is not better known now.

This IS the right tempo for the Prelude , ist doesn‘t show off but reveals the structure within the piece without loosing the sparkling efects.

This is a wonderful way to play the prelude, and this sounds all so fresh and new to the ear.

Great to hear Gieseking again. Ravel put on the clothes of Couperin with this Tombeau suite. Richard Cahn

I totally agree, Paul. However, there is not such thing as "completely unique" as "unique" alone means one of a kind.
agree better speed than most of this work.Some shocking performances aroune,but this is best
slow. but thick and deep.
He got the tempo of Menuet perfect. Contemplative without over-sentimental.
