Thanks for the laughs Moose Merch Apparel! And darn good looking hoodie! We enjoy your use of Timelapse shots, multi-cuts, and narrated segments speeding things along. A nice balance to the video. Keep up the good work and enjoy that day you really get to sit by the fire enjoying a beverage in a Moose Merch hoodie! *Hey, when is Moose Merch going to start selling that fancy combination cutting board, pot lid, and meal tray!?! Viewers want to know!
Red Moose, Houston here. Thank you for the update. Nice to see there were no major hurdles you had to get over. Well, except for having to choose between sitting by the nice fire or putting in insulation (I know it's your favorite, it's ours too). That must have been difficult. We're glad you made it through this traumatic challenge. We'll be patiently awaiting your next update. Houston out.
I call it a splinter. Grandma's method for getting a splinter out -- soak a small piece of bread in milk and place on the splinter area at bedtune. Hold it on with a bandaid overnight. In the morning that splinter will be in the dry piece of bread. Honest -- works every time. Thanks for sharing.
Never really thought about it but I say splinter when it is wood and sliver when its metal. Thanks, now I'm thinking about random littles things all day! LOL! Love your content! A nice break from life's craziness!
Greetings once again from Rancho de Vegas. I ordered two of your black 15oz mugs today. I’m not a coffee drinker, but these will be great with soup. I love your channel-it’s the best of all DIY/off grid channels. I am pleased and entertained watching your vlog. I challenge all your viewers to get a mug as well! I wish I had a nickel for every time I got a “sliver” from a piece of “splintered” wood. See you next week!
First time adding a comment! I volunteer build with Habitat for Humanity in SC, and have learned so many great tips to make things easier. Thanks! Love watching the cabin come together.
In Scotland, we call a splinter a "Skelve" I enjoy the videos, I watch them in the morning before I start the wee jobs. Oh, and the blocks of wood you put between joists, we call Dwangs.
Thanks, glad you showed forgetting the nailers on the loft joists, will put that on my to-do list for tomorrow so I don’t forget before doing insulation
Ok ok, an answer all your questions - yes the fire was enticing but I learned a few tips and tricks as per usual - my lunch in Canberra Australia was nice, home grown cherry tomatoes and cucumbers with crunchy chips with polish smoked sausage, French Brie washed down with some NZ white wine. All the while highlighting to my partner your great editing skills ( eg the shot of cutting the nailer blocks ). Anyway , rambling a bit - great vid on a sunny weekend afternoon celebrating a great morning of gardening Edit splinter
Weather looks cool and seems to be raining. Much nicer here in south west Florida. Thanks for another entertaining video. You are in my favorite five. Take care and stay safe.
LotM is the staple for my saturday morning before I get to work on my home away from home, my diy campervan sprinter bug-out machine... As always I enjoyed the video...thanks sir.
Hi Patrick 👋 Boy oh boy am I glad we’re done with the insulation, what a bore, it’s right up there with hanging drywall… boring, boring stuff! It’s great to have joined you on the job site again! I call them “Slivers” Well, I’m looking forward to seeing you next week! So you take care of yourself buddy!
It is safe to put those little metal face plates on the boards where the electric wire go thru , so nail won’t penetrate the wire in the future. Keep up the good work and stay safe
I love your hoodie commercial! I got such a chuckle watching it that my daughter asked me what was so funny! I told her this Life on the Moose guy just tickles my funny bone! Thank you for being so genuine and fun to watch. You’ve quickly become one of my favorite RUclipsrs!
A+ Big Push (!!) Well Done .- complimets to the chef- looking over your shoulder .. I'm a California Licensed GC, Eng and Certified Electrician; seeing AllPro Work
My Grand Daughter Rayna wants me to tell you she appricates you sharing your gourmet food recipes..lol. This brought back memories of when we were insulating a fishing cabin we bought back in the 60s. It was already over 50 years old and as for insulation well it had old newspapers. .lol. As kids we got to pick our job..my Dad did the cutting, I did the pushing in between studs, my little brother held the top while I pushed it in and my Mom did the nailing...I remember how hot it got in that little cabin in the middle of September. After we finished we had a cookout over the fire and drank Cokes that had been cooling on ice blocks. Man those were the days. BTW..the cabin is still there by the lake, well insulated, and as I remember it.
Nice job on the insulation! I have a rafter square and after watching the videos you have posted I went out and bought a speed square as well. What a great easy to use tool! Thanks!
The only time I put insulation between the studs is when I use drywall, that way I can glue and screw it . That way you avoid flexing. I enjoy your channel. 😅👍🇺🇸
This is awesome! Perhaps one day I will too build something like this. This is very motivational! I love to see progress of your build and I love your attitude.
Just in case you were wondering, yes, salad shrimp goes good in that potato and bacon soup. By the way I love the expensive custom lid for your pot. Always love the videos; however, I was a more than just a little disappointed when it came to the insulation install. I was expecting to get to watch you tuck tape every single seam. Man, what a slacker 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣. Stay safe, GOD BLESS and see ya on the next one.
I love the progress! It’s a little bit late for me to mention this, but when I had to put nailers in to support an interior finish wall surface, whether it was going to be drywall or wood, I’d usually use 2”x2”. Regardless if it was 2”x4” or 2”x6” framing in the wall, a 2”x2” would allow insulation to fit behind it and wouldn’t create a thermal bridge that using a nailer the same size as the wall framing would do. A well secured 2”x2” would provide plenty of strength for the interior finish but yield other benefits. I know this cabin won’t be occupied, or heated full time, but it’s an idea to consider when you’re eventually building your full time residence cabin down at the ranch. Just a suggestion.
Indeed. My thoughts were the thermal mass of the wood would be better than leaving a void behind a smaller member, not to mention the real reason…I have a pile of 2x6 chunks. I appreciate you watching! 🙏
Thanks for this fun insulation video. You did it better with that add-ons. The campfire sounds perfect for a relaxing time, a good conversation and a mug of coffee. Maybe one of those from the Life on the Moose store. 😉 About your question, here a splinter is usually considered smaller than a sliver, and the translation in Brazilian Portuguese is "farpa" for "splinter" and "lasca" for "sliver". 🙂 I sent a message on the contact form at the Life on the Moose store. Please let me know when the products are available to be sent to Brazil, or if you know of a service to receive the products bought there and send them to Brazil. 😊 Last week, when I visited the store, there were nice mugs, and it's good to see there are more options available. 😊 Cheers, and keep warm and safe!
Thank you! Fascinating all of the words I learned for splinter this morning. My Shopify store is set up to go as international as possible…I believe. I’ll double check tho. 🙏
Congratulations, insulation is finally done! 🎉😂 Excellent video, as always! 👍 I'm noticed that You started working without respirator and that was my first thought, what was forgotten, when You get out of screen.. That egg was, indeed, misleading.. 😂 My thought was that it will end up in kettle.. Wood chip under the skin, in latvian, we call "skabarga", but in english I call it "splinter".. 😉
Hé Patrick good morning, a nice episode again and for your information we say here in The Netherlands for a small piece of wood under your skin “splinter”😉. Take care and enjoy the weekend.👍🏼👋🏼
well,,it is a most wonderful temp for south alabama today with a nice coolish breeze ..my clothes I hung out were dry in about 30 minutes ..it is 73 degrees goin down to 40 or so tonite..MUCH LOV FROM SOUTH ALABAMA.
Patrick, you've got a pleasant, conversational, off-the-cuff speaking voice, manner and demeanor, which are some of the reasons that I keep coming back to your channel. Now, I'm going to go out on a critical limb here and state that your Moose Merch ad was quite stuffy and formal in comparison - I felt that it was easy to tell that you were reading from a script. I'd recommend that you give any future ads more practice before you record the voice-over and try to capture your normal delivery. Your presentation is otherwise always very friendly, knowledgeable and soothing. Like listening to a good friend.
Here in The Netherlands we call it a splinter as well. A slither is something a creepy crawly would do trying to get away from you or approaching you before trying to bite you.
Love the show. I appreciate your sense of humor as well. I don't know what type of stove you are thinking of putting into the cabin. There's a wood stove company up in Minnesota called the 4 Dog Stove company. They are a lightweight stove made of stainless steel and are designed for tents or small cabins under 250 sq.' I've watched a guy on RUclips use the 3 Dog model for several years now in an expedition style tent. You can get these with a warming rack and a stainless water tank on the side of the stove. The tank holds about 2 gallons of water and is detachable. They cost about $400. I plan on putting one in the cabin after I'm done building. Just a heads up. Vaughn
For live comments, that could be a future series called 'LIVE.... on the Moose'. I like the outdoor fire. In a couple of days, I'll be standing by a fire making maple syrup. Want to carry the sap for me? No, ok I'll do it. Any maple or birch trees out there? We say splinter here. I had one yesterday loading my wood stove without my gloves, shoulda known better. We ask for a sliver of pie for a small piece. Feeling warmer with all the insulation done... now I need to get a walk for some cool air.
The only thing I would have done differently on this entire job would have been to sprinkle shredded sharp cheddar cheese in the soup. Loved the segment @ 11:25 thru 11:48. Thanks for the merchandise. It's the next best thing to being there with you. I also call a splinter a $&%T !! when it happens to me, a splinter when it happens to someone else. I forgot to comment on your banister project....perfect!
Too late now but if you ever have more insulation to do, when you get to the wire simply split the insulation about half thickness from whichever end is closest to the wire and slide half behind the wire. Just like you did in that one bay. Goes much faster and seals better in those areas. Looks good from my house
I'm a linguist from the west coast of the US. Currently working as an English teacher in the PRC. Sliver/Splinter? I use both interchangeably. And for those who need to know (that'd be everyone). The state is pronounced "Or uh gun".
Awesome! Linguistics was one of my favorite classes in college…English major et al. It was taught by a British fellow with a heavy accent, so it made it all the more fun.
I would have to say that most people would refer to wood being splintered when smashed... Don't recall the last time I heard someone say I slivered that wood to pieces. So perhaps when the sliver gets stuck in your hand then it goes from being a sliver of wood to a splinter. Great question and seeing as how both pretty much have the same definition it would be left to personal opinion.
Well there you go, all the insulation done? Good thing you record these jobs, silly me stayed down by the fire too long and missed the first part. But I will go back and see what I missed , I promise. Sliver is what I called them until they get too big, then I have all kinds of colorful names for them. Been meaning to ask and thought I had already, But ? With you working alone on these jobs and recording them too, Do you feel like we are there with you? Does it help with any of the loneliness or maybe just a empty feeling? Just curious, I too like working alone, but I am not a drive distance away from Mrs. Southern, so I do not go all day without seeing her lovely smile. Ok Got some of my own work to do, see you next week. Stay well. Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely feel as though you’re there with me. Although it takes more time to move the camera around, it gives me a sense I’m not alone. I appreciate you watching and commenting. 🙏
Hi I am from Shetland and I grew up calling it a spelk instead of a splinter. Love your videos and would love to visit you someday. Keep up the great work. Alan
Looked pretty professional to me 👍
Thank you!
Campfire and a pot of coffee! Love it! Thanks for including us in your journey. 🫡
Thank YOU!🙏
i'm glad someone finally had the courage to bring this topic up that has been silenced for too long. i've always called it a splinter.
I mustered all the bravery I could. 🙏
I really like how no smoke comes off your new circular saw blade. LOL 😊
Indeed!
Thanks for the laughs Moose Merch Apparel! And darn good looking hoodie! We enjoy your use of Timelapse shots, multi-cuts, and narrated segments speeding things along. A nice balance to the video. *Hey, when is Moose Merch going to start selling that fancy combination cutting board, pot lid, and meal tray!?! Viewers want to know!
lol, I have a few for sale…🤔 🙏
Campfire and adult beverage is the winner
Hard to argue that!

Wow cool! Haven’t heard that one. Thank you for watching!
I like that you bring a bowl too, for lunch.
That shot looks like you are standing on top of the pan. Love it.
Unintentional! I didn’t notice that until my final edit.
It's great though! Really enjoying all the videos and the time you are putting into the builds and the editing.@@LifeontheMoose

Greetings once again from Rancho de Vegas. I ordered two of your black 15oz mugs today. I’m not a coffee drinker, but these will be great with soup. Wow that is incredibly kind! I’m humbled. 🙏 See you soon! And thanks for the order!
"And the hood can be worn in the up or down position"....😂...love it!
Well it’s true! 😂
First time adding a comment! I volunteer build with Habitat for Humanity in SC, and have learned so many great tips to make things easier. Thanks! Love watching the cabin come together.
Awesome! Thank YOU. For watching, for volunteering, and for commenting!🙏
Sliver…no doubt it….thats the way we say it in Minnesota…been known to get a few back in the day….not so many in my 70’s…. all the best Patrick….🙏🍀
Thank you, former neighbor to the north!
Good episode, big task accomplished! The word of the day is, splinter. 😊 Have a great week.
Ha thanks!
In Scotland, we call a splinter a "Skelve"

Thanks, glad you showed forgetting the nailers on the loft joists, will put that on my to-do list for tomorrow so I don’t forget before doing insulation

Im so glad we are finally done with that job.
Me too. I think we did ok!

Hey thank you so much! Your lunch sounded much better. 🙏
As my Dad would say, "There's nothing like visitors tail lights leaving down the driveway and that last piece of insulation being hung."
Agreed!
Weather looks cool and seems to be raining. Much nicer here in south west Florida. Thanks for another entertaining video. You are in my favorite five. Take care and stay safe.
Wow I’ll take fave five any day! Thank you!🙏
Great Merchandise commercial.

Alright! Thank you!
The adult beverage will work anytime!
Thanks for another great video!
Thank you! 🍻
Just bought a hoodie not because I need it but to support your corny videos! Keep them coming!
Outstanding! That’s a good enough reason for me. So I will. Much appreciated. 🙏
Hi Patrick 👋
Boy oh boy am I glad we’re done with the insulation, what a bore, it’s right up there with hanging drywall… boring, boring stuff!

Those plates are a great idea where the hole may be too close to the face. I think I’m ok with what I’ll put on the walls. 🙏
Hi Patrick nice to see the insulation done. I would say sliver. Looking forward to your next video.
Thanks!!
I love watching your videos. Your music selections add to the very enjoyable experience. Thank you!
Thank you so much! 🙏

Oops, forgot to add; they’re slivers when they are in me.
Indeed. My thoughts were the thermal mass of the wood would be better than leaving a void behind a smaller member, not to mention the real reason…I have a pile of 2x6 chunks.
I appreciate you watching! 🙏
Neat and clean job Patrick. Proper installation is necessary, but it is a miserable job. 😊
Thank you!
I really like Progresso Soup. Beef barley is my favorite.

Leftover R-13 Hmmmm. You could offer insulated hoodies. Nobody else does that!!!!
R-21…from the Ridge Cabin I build last year. Interesting idea!
Hé Patrick good morning, a nice episode again and for your information we say here in The Netherlands for a small piece of wood under your skin “splinter”😉. Take care and enjoy the weekend.👍🏼👋🏼
Thank you! Enjoy!🙏
I've hung my share of insulation, and mine never looked as good as yours. Great job.
I tried not to show too much close-up video! Thank you. 🙏

Why thank you so much! 🙏 That means a lot.
For the record, that goofy sounding script was intentional. 😎
Here in The Netherlands we call it a splinter as well. A slither is something a creepy crawly would do trying to get away from you or approaching you before trying to bite you.
Interesting…thank you!
Looks great
Thanks!
I don't say sliver or splinter, I say $&%T !!! Nice selection of music.
Indeed! 🙏
Insulated window shutters would help alot..
Keep the cold out..
Never thought of that!
Depends on the size of the wood. Small piece is a sliver, larger is a splinter.
Interesting!
Love the show. I appreciate your sense of humor as well. I don't know what type of stove you are thinking of putting into the cabin. No maples in the area that I know of. A few aspens is the closest we have to birch. Wish I could help with that syrup! 🙏

Yeah that utility knife did the trick!

from Indiana splinter via Florida now
Another informative and funny video. What kind of heat are you looking at? Keep up you your sense of humor.
Probably portable propane at this point. (That’s a lot of P’s…)
Thanks for watching!
Sliver. Wood splinters
Hi I am from Shetland and I grew up calling it a spelk instead of a splinter. Love your videos and would love to visit you someday. Keep up the great work. Alan
Thanks Alan. I appreciate that. 🙏
I’ve seen several spelks!

Great music.... Do yo you preview it, or just go pot luck.... I would find myself spending a lot of time starring off in space .....
Thank you! I always preview…
Well, in my neck of the woods we would say "spåga"...which probably best translates to splinter.
Thanks!
