Dude, this video just saved my butt. I didn't take a photo of those two linkages before I tore stuff apart, and your video helped me put things back together. Thanks a bunch!
I just wanted to say thanks for the step by step video. This saved me a ton of time and allowed me to replace my Craftsman 6.0HP carburetor and avoid a small engine repair shop visit and charge. No more leaking gas.
I have the same exact mower and now have the confidence to replace the carb. When running right it is a GREAT lawn more and I cut close to an acre with it weekly. Thanks
Hey man just wanted to say thanks a bunch for this video. You made it super easy to follow and just saved my family a chunk of time and money we probably would have had to shut out if it weren't for this.
I added a fuel filter on my rebuild. The gas was really bad on the one I am working on and had to clean the tank along with the carb. Also has electric start but several areas on the rung gear are chewed up. Ring gear/stator one piece is obsolete.
@RealManSkills yeah, doing the work for a friend. Judging from the gummed up carb, old fuel with water and crud, hydro locked engine, a very rusty blade, personal pace handle not moving, basically a neglected machine, I was able to get it up and running as it should. 2005 machine.
I wish I would have seen your video before I repaired my toro mower carburetor as I did it the hard way. Do you know what the DOM is as I also have the same model with a DOM of 05319CC0191. When I went to the small engine parts place they said Techumseh went out of business 20+ years ago and trying to decode the engine information is really hard to determine. Thanks
The first two numbers "05" indicates that it was built in 2005. They started that numbering system in 2004. However, they did go out of business in 2008. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the detail of the video. I had the linkage on incorrectly. I seen on other videos where people said they paid only around 35$ for the carburetor; I paid $90 at the local small engine parts store. It's still cheaper than buying a new lawn mover.
Thanks for straightening me out as to where the spring attached to the governor arm. I do have one question though. The manifold to head gasket broke when I took it off and where does one get a new one? Or maybe some kind of gasket in a tube would work OK. Any recommendations? Again, thanks, a great time saver.
Thanks for this! What about the gasket between the intake manifold and the engine? It doesn’t look like you had one when you reinstalled it. Mine crumbled, is it necessary?
@@lukeWiz44 sounds like a leaking inlet needle or hole in the float. Time to rebuild or replace the carb. You can get then pretty cheap from Amazon or Ebay. I keep some in my garage because sometimes it's just easier to put a new one on.
I don't want to link to any particular seller but here is the part number that you can use to search out your own carb - Carburetor for Tecumseh Part numbers: 640271 / 640303 / 640350
I bought the cheapest one on Amazon $11. It works and comes with a new spark plug, air filter and extra accessories. No idea how they make money. I should have watched this video first. Fixing the exact same mower. I came here to see where the linkage goes because I didn't pay attention while removing. I watched some other video before starting and he didn't remove the exhaust or intake tube like in this video. People shouldn't make videos if they don't know what they are doing. Intake removing would have made the job 21% or so more efficient. Thanks for the video bud!
I bought an aftermarket from ebay. I keep them in stock. I started out paying about $32 but the price has been going down as the years go by. Thanks for watching!
The carbs that I have are aftermarket. I think I paid about $22 each. Take a chance on the cheap carbs! Tecumseh went out of business back in 2008 anyway. Thanks for watching.
@@RealManSkills You're welcome! Videos like these are 1000 times more valuable than the usual popular BS I watch. Mind if I ask a question? Same engine... I ended up buying a carb rebuild kit and cleaning everything up all nice and shiny, so now my mower runs so much smoother and at higher RPMs, but still bogs way down when I hit slightly taller grass, even with a freshly sharpened blade. Any obvious fixes aside from digging into rebuilding the engine (or just getting a new dang mower?)
@@andie_pants It's possible that your engine is old and tired. Probably not worth your time to rebuild it. You might consider re-powering it with a Predator engine from Harbor Freight. I have such a project planned but haven't pulled the trigger on it yet. Another issue is that the carb is blocked and when it needs to get more gas, it can't - but you rebuilt it so unless you missed something.......
@@RealManSkills Hell, even in my IT training there was a hardware class where the instructor drew the line between repair and replacement. Looks like I've hit the f--- it barrier. Home Despot has some new DeWalt brand mowers that caught my eye the other day.

Saved me just now too. Could not figure out the lineage. THANK YOU!
Thanks for the info. I've got a couple of Techumseh snowblowers. I'm fortunate that nothing major has broken on the engines, yet.

Gracias por el video amigo, aprendí cómo cambiar un carburador nuevo, tengo que hacerlo en mi podadora
Encantado de ayudarle. ¡Gracias por ver!
Excellent video. Do you ever install a gas valve shut off in that tight space? Thank you for your service.
I haven't but it sounds like a good idea. Thanks for watching.

Haha, same here! :-D Got everything put back together, looked at the linkages, and went "I have no f'ing clue what I'm doing..."
Great vid. Thank you. Liked your idea to clamp the fuel line. I tried it, works great. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching! I got the fuel line clamp idea from my local small engine repair shop. As you can imagine, they know me fairly well.

I get those gaskets from my local small engine repair shop. With an engine model number, they should be able to get the correct gasket.
That is why i dont take the mani off.

Great, in depth video. Question, What’s that red hose sticking out? I assume it the primer, but why isn’t it going out the other side? Just curious.
That red tube is a vent tube. Thanks for watching.
@@RealManSkills thanks for responding. Mine was leaking gas, soaking my filter. What does that mean?
