Form: White Eyebrow Cross Pattern Set (白眉派 - 鷹爪十字扣打拳)
As a traditional kung fu form, the Cross Pattern set (鷹爪十字扣打拳) ticks all the three essential boxes for me:
It contains effective self-defence skills
It feels great to perform as an athletic exercise
It is eye-catching as performance art
But the Cross Pattern set is so much more. It is a brilliantly designed sequence of movements: each movement spring-loads the next, generating a kinetic energy that flows and builds from the opening stance to the very end. It is my favourite traditional kung fu form.
Grandmaster Zhang Li-Quan (張禮泉) incorporated sets from other systems into the Pai Mei syllabus in the formative years of the style. The Cross Pattern form is originally from the Wanderers Style (AKA Gypsy Style) - 流民派 - and was taught to Grandmaster Zhang by his teacher Lin Shi (林石).

Very good form, sir, a pleasure to see it, very interesting kung fu style. Greetings from Argentina.
Sifu Tim, thankiu for your performance. I specially appreciate your warmest and honest smiles and your beautiful English English accent ! Your knowledge of Mandarin as well as Cantonese is so valuable; your video from drone is impressive, too.
Hello Ecniv, thank you for your kind words. Chinese language is my passion, as well as kung fu. I'm lucky to live in Taiwan where I speak Chinese every day. Just need to point out though - I'm not a Sifu (far from it!) - just an enthusiast. Happy New Year of the Tiger to you - take care and stay safe.
Very impressive movement - good energy and pace
I trained in covent garden under sifu Tang in the 80s for a couple of years the Pak Mei club was a amazing place to be loved those guys sadly due to illness had to stop but the training saved my ass on more than one occasion so if any of you guys read this it was a honor training with you under sifu Tang sorry to hear the sad news about Ivor but hope the rest of you are well
Thanks for your comment Steve! Yes, I have so many great memories of training under Sifu Tony Tang. What a fantastic coach and a lovely man. It was a warm and friendly club and great people, and we'd often end up in the pub after sessions. Ivor was a legend. He coached me for a while - what an inspirational man. We used to call him "Ivor the Engine"! He will be lovingly remembered.
That's fantastic Tim. I love that aerial footage with the tiled surface and long shadows. It's beautifully graphic. The music's great (almost Oxygene but not quite) and that sequence of you walking into the camera and away again is classic old skool stuff. And no wonder you were dripping in sweat at the end. You certainly move for an old fella. Well done.
Thanks Andy. Really appreciate your comments.
Superb video Tim and great moves. Really enjoyed the park setting and variety of camera angles.
Thanks for the kind words! Really appreciate it.
動作好快,好漂亮的拳
Thanks so much Helen for your kind comment!
似乎带有外国拳击类的风格。
Nice Pak Mei technique, good floating and sinking - and lots of energy for a man of your age! Well done!
Thank you for the kind words!
It is a real style eh? Cool! 😀
Thanks for watching!
Very impressive Tim. I hope I don't meet you in a dark alley at night ;-)
Ha ha, thanks Richard. If we met in a dark alley we'd have to go for a beer and catch up on all your exciting news!
