The primary fact that needs to be communicated is this: When the government gives money *to the people* they don't buy back their stocks. No, they inject it directly back into the economy by buying food, medicine, paying rent/mortgage and utilities, etc.
The cycle of the economy starts at the bottom, with all the people going out and spending money to buy goods and services. And *that* is a far better corporate bailout than any amount of money given to corporations.

    • @aammirati91
      @aammirati91 4 года назад +3

The problem with that (from the ruling class perspective) is that if you give all the money to consumers then THEY get to decide which companies stay afloat, rather than all the largest companies securing their own futures.

    • @Amberscion

@@aammirati91 It's pure capitalism! Be the company that provides the most needed products and you stay in business. Fail to do that and you go out of business.

Journalists should confront politicians every chance they get. They should ask them who is supposed to buy the products and services of the companies that got the bailout money!
Bailouts should work via payments to the consumers, because while companies use bailout money for stock buybacks, management bonuses and paying dividends to shareholders, consumers would ACTUALLY SPEND the bailout money and thereby ACTUALLY STIMULATE THE ECONOMY!

I've been a self-motivated and self-interested student of the American Civil War for over 30 years. I have studied every aspect of the war and time period over the course of hundreds of books, articles, field trips and attending various lectures.
My friends, this CAN happen again. Yes, these circumstances today are in many ways different from what happened in 1861-1865.
But the dynamics of sectional tensions, economic and class inequality, party driven loyalty, and most dangerous of all: states rights to self govern vs. the power of a centralized federal government - all of those elements are present here in America in 2020.
They called WWI "The war to end all wars." Cool motto right? Yeah, well that lasted about 20 years until we had another world war. So much for it can never happen again.
Complex societies can break down even faster the more complex they are.
This is not a good time. This is the closest we've come to a second Civil War since 1865. And it scares the crap out of me.

I have been working during this scary time cause I have to support myself and my family! So I cannot quarantine even though if I get sick, I’m probably dead because of my pre-existing condition.

@Chris L 331m is not almost 400m. Subtract children, that's just over 230m adults. But that's irrelevant anyway, because the number of unemployed is 22m. The US annual budget is over $4 trillion. Over half a trillion goes to the military alone. Don't tell me the US can't afford more than $1200/person. 22m x 1200 = 26b. The US govt gave a tax grab to the rich worth over $1.5 trillion. Your over estimate on the total pop is meaningless.

Ana shout out I love you girl, so passionate about life.
Unfortunately this topic I know all to much about. I became disabled a decade ago after a strong productive career. My employer found ways to wrongfully deny my bargained for corporate disability benefits. They At&t are self insured, so of course they deny everyone with corporate greed and Randal Steven's stuffs his pockets and uses the stolen money to pay lobbyists.
I waited 2.5 years for my Social Security Disability to be approved for which I have gone through a review and been re approved.
The worst part of all is not that my employer not only has lobbied the government into paying my bills they should be legally responsible for. Or that the government then protects and bails out these giant corporate welfare entities on the regular either.
The worst part is actually the social stigma. Not the disease, the pain, loosing everything multiple times, being screwed over by my employer and government.
Unemployment is insurance we pay premiums for.
Disability insurance we pay premiums for.
Somehow the shame is shifted onto the victim, and it belongs to the greedy politicians who spun this web of a corporate welfare state.

Thank you for bringing out this fact. I live in Missouri. We do pay into the unemployment a percentage by what we make. But, so many who are brain washed bring up the fact the employer pays in, but what these individual’s don’t know is the fact, if we do not use our unemployment benefit in 5 years the company gets their portion of what they paid Back. I found this out while I was a shop steward in a factory building vending Machines during the late 70’s to 82. I don’t know if that is still true. But it was back then. Maybe if our money wasn’t wasted giving free rides to the socialistic jerks Kocks, & DeVoss, ect. We’d have the money to take care of our poor, tired & hungry & our Veterans.

Yes, thank you. I have conservative relatives who also think that the advantages of birth right have nothing to do with why some people just have it better than others. This notion that if you are willing to work for it, you can achieve anything is such utter bullshit! Yes, hard work is important, but if you are not born in a good neighbourhood, if you are a minority, if you are a woman who "got knocked up" because you didn't have access to birth control or couldn't "close your legs" - as one asshole politician said years ago, or if you are disadvantaged by numerous other factors, there is no way to work hard enough to attain what the millionaires and billionaires of the country have. This notion that everyone has an equal chance to make it big, is such a lie - particularly a conservative lie, because it behooves them to perpetuate it, and pretend that someone with a huge school debt, who works for minimum wage just needs to work harder or make smarter choices, or that people struck by hard times or unfair conditions just needs to suck it up and work for what the privileged few have. God, get money out of politics. Get this notion that anyone who asks for help to get out of a rut, or wishes to have an education that won't cripple them with debt for the next few decades, or gets sick and doesn't have health insurance to stop them from being buried in debt, is just a freeloader who it taking advantage of the system. Help these people to recover and they will, in turn, help the economy. Let them suffer now, and you will never recover as a nation.
I'm Canadian and already, our Liberal government has provided stimulus cheques to its citizens, EI, or other measures to help us work through this crisis. I get $2000 a month for the foreseeable future because I meet the simple criteria of needing to stay home with my elementary school aged child, and I cannot work while I have to educate her at home, babysit and deal with all the other issues facing us during this crisis. I watch what happens in the US and I feel such despair for your people. We, the middle class, have to stand up for what is right and I hope your next election ousts that useless sack of shit you have as a President.
I cannot imagine Obama ever letting Americans suffer as you have all suffered, nor would he get on the news to promote his own efforts before giving condolences to families of those who die every day in your country. You have a rich history of being and doing good, and I hate to see the turn your country has taken - not only in the world, but with your vitriolic disparity of opinions and commonality among your political parties. You have forgotten who your are and what you stand for, and all your politicians do is give lip service to better men and women who came before, whist disappointing on a daily basis, the people they were elected or appointed to serve. Shame.

The working class pays all of the taxes. The owner class pay none of the taxes, and even those who do pay, they pay it with the surplus value of labor that the workers produced. Hence, the owner class never pay taxes. However, the owner class gets almost the entire bail out (which comes from the workers’ labor) while the workers get spit on the face. I think we should abolish taxation, and make the owner class pay with hours of labor. At the very least, Jeff Bezos should deliver goods with his own hands, 8 hours a day, 6 days per week, for a least 30 days. We should make the entire owner class do something similar. This is still unfair though. The working class work more hours a day, and 12 months a year. OK, I changed my mind, we should make owner class work at least 40 hours per weak, and 12 months per year. We should never accept “their” money, only labor, and the amount of labor should be reciprocal to all we work we do. This is the only way to have a just society. Yes, we deserve unemployment insurance. We worked for it, and the owner class stole it in the form of profits. Yes, we deserve universal basic income. We worked for it, but the parasites (the owner class) stole it. You have to decide whether you want you and/or your family to die of coronavirus, while the parasites get to live in mansions and send you back to the mines, or whether you want a just society, a democratic society, one in which you can tell your boss, “you first, motherfucker.” Freedom is impossible unless we abolish private dictatorships. If you disagree, then: It’s the economy. Go die for it, stupid!
