What did he say that was wrong ? Progressives have to start realizing that their economic policies are very popular and their social issues/identity politics issues are VERY unpopular . So obviously you run on the popular/ populist economic issues and ignore the social issues but appt judges that lean left on those issues and just let the judges take care of those.
Eg in pa , dems have a 1 seat majority and in some rural schools districts the school board passed a rule saying trans kids have to use the bathroom of their gender at birth . Now the pa dem majority could pass a bill allowing trans kids to use the bathroom of their choice BUT they know their 1 seat majority would be decimated if they did that , with 100% certainty , so they ignore that and let the aclu sue those school districts knowing that in a few yrs when the case lands in the 6 to 3 dem majority pa s.c , that that issue will be resolved. Very smart and correct strategy and that's what jenk is advocating for .

Just because you have a conversation with someone and you agree because your baseline is that you’re a populist (and I highly encourage you to research about both sides of the aisle when it comes to populism because it exists) it may be a little more clear to understand why they can have this conversation and why for you it seems like he’s conceding, but he actually isn’t. Most former Democrats and those that are on the left that have walked away from the left because they’ve been called conservative or whatever happened to be populists. That’s what you’re hearing and that’s what you think is conservative. It’s not.
