Shanks is like Urahara in Bleach. Appear to be cool, reckless, not care a bit, easy going. But every villain has some respect to him due to the unknown limit of his power/understanding.
This extends to Rogers greatness as well when you consider he essentially raised Shanks as a son. All of these qualities were instilled in him from the Pirate King
never shared much thoughts about Shanks being my favourite character, but one word that u mentioned "realistic way of life" thats something i saw from shanks too while reading and watching, and makes him a person who is near to reality thoughts n u see how much wackiness he has to himself which makes him free minded n funny like asking marco to join is crew n panicking when luffy was kidnapped by higuma.
This video reminds me of when I watched Film Red in the cinema last year. When Shanks made his entrance, there was a wave of cheering and applause. I loved it.
Shanks is Roger's apprentice. What he knows, what he does, and what he seeks to accomplish makes every Marine and Pirate fear and respect the Red-Haired Yonko. Regarding Shanks' skill in swordsmanship and combat, I think all of the skills he utilizes are similar to how Roger fought. Shanks to me is Roger's herald who paves the way for the future Pirate King who will accomplish Joy Boy's dream of a unified and free world.
Also in typical Oda writing Shanks personality is derived from his experiences of course he would be humble but strong being raised by Roger and silver Growing up looking at those monsters he would know that he is strong but far from crazy strong like his captain and childhood hero he probably idealised and romanticised the idea of the perfect invincible pirate in Roger and he is simply trying to catch up with that idea of the perfect Roger he has in his childhood dream With that in mind it makes sense that he grew up like this

Mr Morj, you're an absolute professional. This is what you call a beautiful and well-thought analysis. The one thing that is really interesting to me is Shanks's personal journey. Events he experienced to be who he is today. For me, that's more exciting than the current storyline. Oda sensei is a genius.

Great video. If im honest, i always feared that Shanks ends up as a very flat character because the theme that was established in chapter 1 and thats, well, 25 years old. But Oda always gets me - he has a plan for everyone and Shanks will fit into the big frame perfectly once we reach the climax. Each move has a meaning.
Great video but I feel there’s also a chance the dichotomy between Shanks and Luffy could actually be narratively setting up Shanks’ “fatal flaw” or what it is about him that makes Luffy the correct choice for Pirate King. If I had to guess, Luffy’s rash need for immediate action as opposed to “waiting for the right time” or “keeping the peace” as Shanks is portrayed to be doing is something Oda will highlight as “more correct” than how Shanks conducts himself. But time will tell.
Thats obvious isn't it? I mean thats how Oda distinguishes Luffy as the one truly meant for the throne. Shanks avoids conflict. Luffy will utterly squash it.
There's a term that people use to call this kind of characters, 'The wise old man'. I can think of Dumbledore and Gandalf who Morj gave as an example but Shanks is not that old so 'big good' fits more
Morj can you please please please make a video on why the first chapter of one piece is Shanks teaching Luffy to not fight people who insult you. I get the message of, what i don't get is why was this the first thing that we learn from shanks? Is there a main villain(Imu) who will contrast with Luffy here, by fighting useless battles of pride? Usopp fights back against an insult to luffy's dream, and that is treated as his heroic moment. Roger would go after anyone who spoke I'll of his crew. Was that a flaw? Ace chose to fight Akainu over an insult, leading to his death. Blackbeard however seems to understand what shanks was saying there. Interestingly, Kidd is the only important rival in the story who definitely doesn't understand this sentiment, as he actively burns down places over insults. Basically can you do a video on pride in one piece? Because I think it is a lot more subversive than other anime here and I don't know exactly what it's trying to say
Wow. This video reminds me of the time Morj predicted Shanks would be in Elbaf. Like our hero Shanks, he doesn't even feel the need to speak loudly about it for 10 minutes. 🤓
Personally, i think the reason why the marines hesitate to fight him is because similar to the elders, they know of his background, that being a decendant of celestial dragons more specifically the Garling family. With one of them becoming an elder, it makes me think they're really strong genetically...or at least their sword mastery is a natural talent of the family and is considered one of the best if not the best.
When you talked about us not ever rlly seeing him fight I had this idea that maybe he’s like a king from one punch man esc character that like has just been faking it till he makes it but then it immediately fell apart in my head cuz of the scenes where he splits the sky w white beard and stops akainus fist, still an interesting thought tho lol
Not anything to do with shanks, but Blackbeard I believe that Blackbeard isn’t going to be sent to impel down or be casually defeated like every other villain, he’s going to die. Blackbeards death won’t be at the hands of anyone, but rather through the awakening of his own darkness devil fruit. I personally find it fitting that Blackbeard, who consumes everything with his darkness fruit, eventually is consumed by the awakening of his own devil fruit. It is said that to utilise an awakened fruit, your mind and body must surpass or be equal to your devil fruit abilities. In impel down, we see otherwise; we see more than one awakened df users consumed by their abilities and basically become mindless Zoan users, unable to revert back to their human state (I think). Luffy will defeat Blackbeard, which will cause Blackbeard to awaken, where he will be consumed and either die or become some unstoppable force of darkness Whitebeards death could also be used in contrast to Blackbeards death, Whitebeard who dies with honour Blackbeard who succumbs to his greed Whitebeards crew mourns his death Whereas Blackbeards crew willingly watch his consumption Whitebeard tells his crew to stay away as he dies Blackbeard screams for help as he succumbs to his fruit Just a theory, but it sounds really fitting imo
I think another great part of his character is his willingness to not only tolerate the younger generation, but to actively encourage and be willing to step aside to their growing importance and power.

Interestingly, Kidd is the only important rival in the story who definitely doesn't understand this sentiment, as he actively burns down places over insults.
Basically can you do a video on pride in one piece? Because I think it is a lot more subversive than other anime here and I don't know exactly what it's trying to say
Definitely made my cry
5:38 "sleeves" good one
For analyticly video like this i subscribed for! what an awesome video!
Sorry Morj but (5:39) he won't be rolling up one of his sleeves anytime soon lol
The MorjPiece is REAL
Such a Great review on shanks I think you r the best to describe him🔥👍
To this day I still don't understand how so many people bought into the "Shanks is evil" theory.
Some people should reallly not be reading one piece
Amazing video. Thank you dude!
Let’s get some more analysis videos, man. Love the theories but this was a breath of fresh air
Brilliant analysis of Shanks' character!!!!
Wonderfully said
Shanks is too massive!
The best way to describe shanks is that he’s such a cool guy

Thank you for the us critique. I appreciate it
When you talked about us not ever rlly seeing him fight I had this idea that maybe he’s like a king from one punch man esc character that like has just been faking it till he makes it but then it immediately fell apart in my head cuz of the scenes where he splits the sky w white beard and stops akainus fist, still an interesting thought tho lol
The BIG GOOD sounds so unga bunga I'm sorry💀
Not anything to do with shanks, but Blackbeard
I believe that Blackbeard isn’t going to be sent to impel down or be casually defeated like every other villain, he’s going to die.
Luffy will defeat Blackbeard, which will cause Blackbeard to awaken, where he will be consumed and either die or become some unstoppable force of darkness
Whitebeards death could also be used in contrast to Blackbeards death,
Whitebeard who dies with honour
Blackbeard who succumbs to his greed
Whitebeards crew mourns his death
Whereas Blackbeards crew willingly watch his consumption
Whitebeard tells his crew to stay away as he dies
Blackbeard screams for help as he succumbs to his fruit
Just a theory, but it sounds really fitting imo
3:29 nailed it
4:52 nailed it again
The sage has to die
He just has to
It's inevitable...
I love him and he for one of my fav One Piece characters!
This video made me like Shanks more and made me really hope he’s not the/a villain, as so many have theorized.
Love your analyses.
