      Annnnd this is why everyone should just use the metric system. Imagine an error like this when manufacturing the boards. "Oh yeah make it 50cm by 50cm that's pretty small."

    The only thing i would add, is that people should install a switch to turn the tx or rx line from the naze minimosd "off" otherwise you wont be able to connect the Naze32 via USB, because the USB and RX/TX lines are shared.

    Great video once again, thanks.
    One thing that is still not clear to me is the MinimOSD common grounds.
    1. The 12v video in\out grounds are connected to the MinimOSD, Wouldn't it be better to by pass the MinimOSD ground similar to 12v plus red wire ?
    2. The 12v VBAT ground is connected to the MinimOSD, Wouldn't it be better to connect only the 12v plus red wire directly from the battery ? ( as suggested in one of the Naze32 related videos in regards to FC VBAT pin )
    Many Thanks Oren

      Thanks for the comment, I *love* this thing and the fact that I can pop the main battery voltage/video voltage/current/RSSI into it without some very fine soldering is fantastic.
      I have been watching the KV Team Mods threads and this is such a great piece of technology for the price.
      Best of luck fitting it to the 250 quad. That is an ideal platform..
      Happy flying!

    I am always immensely impressed with the clarity of your discussion, sharpness of your videos, and wonderful diagrams.
    I am a newbie that has been lurking on/over many FPV sites as I acquire hardware to make the plunge myself.
    My concern is that newer cameras and transmitters are now adopting 3-5v power requirements, while the specs for many of the OSD systems are for 12v systems or partial 12v and 5v to different components.
    I fried the cable between my Mini OSD from HobbyKing and my Eachine tx/cam combo from BangGood, apparently because I wasn't careful separating the power supplies from the 5v Eachine systems from 7-12v main board of the Mini OSD.
    Do you have experience running the MinimOSD micro completely on 5v systems? Are there issues?
    Also can you recommend a video or diagram which illustrates the OSD data layout in detail as a screen capture?
    Thanks. Please continue your outstanding contributions to this hobby!
    Jim

    Good Day.
    I just received the Micro OSD as you suggested. It dd not come pre installed with software. Ok I went into Arduino 1.6.9 and verified the clear command. It verified just fine. went to upload the file to make sure I am strting off with a clean slate.
    I got this error:
    Sketch uses 25,896 bytes (84%) of program storage space. Maximum is 30,720 bytes.
    Global variables use 1,899 bytes (92%) of dynamic memory, leaving 149 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.

    Any idea? I tried it with both of my new boards. I also bought 2 new FTDI boards like yours to be compatible.
    I have tried several versions of Audrino from 1.3 to 1.6.9. Same error codes. Is it this hard to make these work??? I know yours was pre-installed but ......
    Windows system does indeed find the FTDI board on COM5. I did set the software on com 5 , just fyi..
    been on this 10 hours today. I am wondering if some other hardware on my computer is bad.
    I also installed cp210 as well. When I hook it up to my quad I do see video and lots of V'S or down arrows over the entire screen!
    so my rxtx and powers are correct as well as my vid in and vid out are good. have not got any further than that.
    Please if you have any ideas or someone else that might be on spot with these Micro OSD's

    Any chance you might do a setup/wiring video of the MinimOSD Micro as a stand-alone (without a flight controller) on a fixed wing? Maybe on a mini-wing such as the HK Bonsai? I think it would be a great application for FPV wing racing.

    Greetings....
    On your recommendations I picked up the Quanum Cyclops goggles and the Taranis Plus!. First they are just what I need to get started in fpv!
    So now I am trying desperately to get the mini OSD configured (not Minum??). I see on the board it is the AT328P version. I downloaded all the files you recommended. Great. I am using the FTDI232 board to interface with the OSD. I have 2, 6 pin connectors to join them together. as yours had a female on it and just plugged it in. Now I have been on this for 8 hours but it seems that I can only get the arduino to recognize com 5. I thought I had an IRQ conflict on 3 so I changed it. Oh I am using Windows 10 on a laptop. I was able to clear the OSD with the clear command found in the KV Team folder that I created. it seemed to work but the lights never did turn amber. I then went to the next step to configure it with KV Team OSD.ino file I got this error code. I am not sure you have had this problem but here is the error code:
    ______________________________________________
    Arduino: 1.6.9 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini, ATmega328 (5V, 16 MHz)"
    In file included from sketch\EEPROM.cpp:5:0:

    extern PROGMEM const char *item_table[];
    exit status 1
    variable 'item_table' must be const in order to be put into read-only section by means of '__attribute__((progmem))'
    This report would have more information with
    "Show verbose output during compilation"
    option enabled in File -> Preferences.
    _____________________________________________________
    Every other file I try to upload gives me a similar error 'item_table' ???
    Do you or maybe some of your GURU's have any ideas??? I have tried this on 4 different boards. 2 were MavLink OSD which I will not use as I am using the NAZE32 Rev. 6 FC.
    Any Ideas will be greatly appreciated as I am excited to use my new Cyclops Goggle!

    Love your videos, always new things to learn. My question is I have a naze32 rev6, using INAV, for RSSI do I use the pinout on naze to micro minim in? To show it in OSD? Not been able to find these types of simple questions answered so have to ask. thanks again for videos

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад +1

      RSSI can be more complex than you first think as there are a few ways to send the RSSI signal to a flight controller or OSD. You need to know how the Rx you're using sends it as things like the MinimOSD like a voltage level rather than a PWM value.. Best of luck!

    Your wiring diagram at 7:05 is WRONG! GND from battery is at the TOP and +5V is at the bottom. I hope I didn't fried my osd...
    P. S. - And I saw the comment about this just now...
    P. S. - It still works. Because of my stupidity, I paid 25€ for this board. Noe I only need to re-flash it from ardu osd to mw osd...

    I've noticed on the MinimOSD Micro board there is a pad to connect a current monitor and was wondering if an APM Power Module would work with this board for monitoring current.
    I would seem to that the APM Power Module would be ideal as it also provides a battery voltage monitor signal as well as a current monitor signal. With the newer Micro APM power distribution boards this is built in and would be ideal for a 250 quad build.
    Question is can the current monitoring signal be used by anything else besides an APM/Pixhawk board? They are 'as cheap as chips' too.
    BTW- Excellent RUclips channel!! Thanks, and I really mean that!

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      James Lummel Not sure - I've not tried it. You will need to find the specification for the APM module and look at how that compares to the inputs on this board. Best of luck!

    Help!? have i fried the osd already?! - when i plugged it into the pc to change the display its always shown a rapid flashing green light, i wouldnt say its bright at all like the others. it came pre flashed so i could put in into the quad - but - and this is where it gets strange, when i power up the quad the osd dont come on and the TX does but when i disconnect it from the FC then reconnect it, the TX turns off and the OSD comes on with the same rapid flashing green light. Can any one help at all please?

    I am trying to avoid a ground loop. Are the Video in/out GNDs on the OSD connected to the main minimOSD ground that is part of the FTDI row of pins? I am wondering if it would be possible to connect the OSD only on the video line between the Tx and camera, without connecting the GNDs of the video pins. Then the camera and transmitter will have the same ground (from the TX in my case) and the micro minimOSD will have the ground from the flight controller. Not sure if this will work but it will definitely not work if the Video GNDs on the OSD are isolated.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  9 лет назад

      +vzachari It works the way we've wired it here, you can try a different approach but I've never had any humming from a 'ground loop' on my models. Best of luck..

    Thanks again for another great video, sorry for all the questions as I'm new to Multiwii/Minim OSD, for main battery voltage (4S) do i just simple take a Positive/Negative from my PDB and wire this to Bat1 +ve/-ve on the board without the need for extra resistors as per your other video? KV Team Mod Board not micro, busy installing it just now but a little worried about putting 4S voltage straight to the board, also for RSSI I'm guessing I simply wire these from my RX (EzUHF) to the appropriate pins on the board then configure my rx for RSSi out in the ezUHF software,
    Thanks again.

    Wondering on how to setup up this MinimOSD Micro to a Naze32 and also using a Matek Mini Power Hub PCB V3.1 board. You say to connect the VTX and VRX cable to the Naze32 but on the Matek PCB there is also a place for these connection, so which one would be used or does it really matter?

    Hi this is great! Please can you tell us if it works with the CC3d (when you do the vid). Plus do you have a simple overview of what minimosd does and what clearflight is and now it works with LEDs? With the micro osd how do you wire the camera ground if your video transmitter does not power the camera, both my tx and camera run on 12v, the transmitter has a spare ground cable and the camera has just positive ground and signal, when using with no osd i solder both positive and ground together from both tx and camera to supply voltage and join the signal wire from the camera to the transmitter. Advice would be appreciated.

      +quadthing copter the ground isn't for power, it's for the reference for the signal. See our video on using 12v fpv systems with 5v boards for more information.

    Hi Lee
    I have one of these and I'm trying to use it with a APM board. I've soldered the pins on for the FTDI adpator and it powers up OK but I think its need another bootloader installing for Mavlink. Googled a lot but not much about loading the mavlink firmware on. The normal OSDConfig for minumOSD-extra just doesn't work and says try using Arduino IDE to put the bootloader. Wondered if you have any idea's. Or would I be better just getting the bigger board again. I had a couple and not lasted very long, one was my own fault. So I thought I'd try the mirco version
    Thanks

      @Painless360  6 лет назад +1

      Sounds like you have a far more basic issue than the intricacies of how the protocol works. If you do want to know why - then you can read up about the MAVlink protocol and look at its bi directional nature and handshaking.. best of luck..

    • @maxdj8166
      @maxdj8166 6 лет назад

      yes, I figured the handshaking thing quite late!

    • @maxdj8166
      @maxdj8166 6 лет назад

      Sir,
      your "handshake" term gave me a lead, sth to think of ...
      I probably should (and will !) be ashamed for asking next, but, actually, I was using the UART port from the FlightController (APM 252V5), to feed both the 3DR and this 'new' device of mine (the micro minimOSD).
      They are wired parallel.
      Since you evoked the 'handshake', which sounds to me as a synchro, I humbly asked about the necessity of having the RX from the OSD in use.
      Now, would you say, my failure comes from this attempt of having both working simultaneously, thus, having two 'handshakes/hearbeats' that are conflicting?
      This is all new to me.
      I was naive enough to think I could fly and run the FPV+OSD on the one hand (the one eye!), and the run MissionPlanner with wireless telemetry (433Mhz) on the other.
      Thanks for your kindness and patience!
      Max

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

    • @hamzabendahou479
      @hamzabendahou479 8 лет назад

      Painless360 Thanks for your quick answer. I found the solution: I don't know if it is in the spracing f3 or in the micro minim osd but the tx and rx pins where inverted (not labled corretly). I suppose it is in the sp racing f3 since I was able to flash the micro osd using my ftdi adapter.

    Q1: the micro osd w kvosd reeboots mid flight on one quad but not on my mini250. Any tips on why?
    Q2: the volt info dont show up on the osd on this quad but it does on my mini250. Vbat is connected with a single wire on quad and both wires on mini250. Other than that they are the same. Cleanflight shows volt correcly on my computer.
    Q3: on all quads the voltage displays the same as my multimeter in cleanflight sw on my pc. Iets say i have 12.4v. I set alarm to go off at 10.5 in sw and as soon as i take off the alarm keeps beeping. Why?
    Keep the videos comming 👍😃

      Solved q2. Had to activate use fc volt in gui.

      Hope this helps -
      Q1. I would swap the board over with a known good one and see. Could be a power problem on the quad or an issue with the board..
      Q2. Yep, FC switch on voltage in GUI.
      Q3. The voltage drops alarmingly (no pun intended ) when you pull a lot of power. Higher C packs cope better. I would lower the alarm again..
      Best of luck...

    I am huge fan fan of your videos; i recently buiilt a Quad based on your Naze32 videos. i am using Naze32 Rev 6, with GPS, SONAR, and Micro Minim OSD firmware R1.6. I checked all the cables, everything seemed to be OK. I was able to get the Video from the camera but no overlay. In other words, i am getting a Display 'DISARMED" all the time. Basically No Data from FC.
    I have MSP enabled on UART1 with BAUDRATE of 115200 matching in the UI and the Sketch and UART2 is used for GPS connected to the 3 and 4th Pins on FC.
    Also made sure TX-->RX and RX-->TX are connected between MinimOSD and the FC.
    What am i missing? Any help would be appreciated.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      If you're connecting the OSD to the TX and RX pins on UART1 then you'll only see data when the board is armed. Best of luck!

      I am still not getting data after arming the board. i am still seeing "DISARMED" and "NO DATA" message.

    My micro boards came preflashed with arducam v2.0 firmware wich obviously didn't work for me, because i'm using a flip32+. I've tryed to flashed them before with kv team 2.3 but they simply didn' accept the firmware. I've just finnished updating them with the MWOSD 1.3 and it was pretty simple, I'll try them now, cheers.

      Bruno Santos Don't forget to try an older version of the Arduino software to flash with if the latest version isn't playing ball - loads of problems flashing older sketches with the latest version..

      Painless360 which version of arduino you recomnend? I have problem flashing my micro minimosd. Gives me sync error.

    • @bru77o
      @bru77o 9 лет назад

      fdaremi I used the latest arduino version at the time to flash mine with MW OSD 1.3 and had no problems. You may have problems with previous versions of the firmware such as KV Team 2.3 that dont seem to work with newest version of arduino.
      To be safe you can always use arduino1.0.5

      +Camilo Reyes Have a look at the Naze32 series. Everything I know about the setups are in the videos. Sadly you can run out of pins on the Naze32 but if you're not bothered about LEDs then you can use Softserial to give you a few more ports to play with..Best of luck.

    I have a Micro MinimOSD, it came with Arducam OSD loaded. I was able to get video out of it but no telemetry. It would just display waiting for MAVlink heartbeats. At the moment I have disconnected everything and just have the FTDI connected.
    When I power the board up through the FTDI the blue LED comes on and stays on, Geen LED flashes a few times then stays on. So I beleave it has a bootloader installed
    I have now used Arduino and successfully cleared the EEPROM. I then tried to load KV_TEAM_OSD as per your videos. If I try to verify or upload I get the following error.

    Hi Professor, hope you are enjoying the summer. There are a lot of issues with PIxhawk Minim OSD setup on apm3.2; as related here in this forum:
    ardupilot.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=100&t=10270&hilit=minim+osd&start=10
    Was wondering whether you would be tackling this issue on your pIxhawk series, please. Issues are on Telem 2. Also everyone seem to be using OSD Extra; and perhaps there would be another firmware (from another community) more appropriate? Any insights or tips to get me going, as I am struggling as well with my new pixhawk, please? Cheers and Safe Flying!

      Power them all from the UBEC. You do need to have a UBEC that will supply 2A or more as the OSD pulls more current than you expect.. Best of luck!

    Want to add simple phrase to video. In my world that's about $99 USD. I'd like to use these at low cost- not for model. How could I use this to add simple 6 charter phrase ID to video signal outside of model? Do I need ardrino or PIC to generate ASSCI characters or other means? Don't have quad/ model circuit to help. Hopefully stand alone with minimal added items- looking for very low cost solution.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 лет назад

      The MinimOSD is a great way to do that but the code we use in the hobby is designed to 'listen' to telemetry stream from the flight controller and then use that to put the characters on the screen. If you're familiar with Arduino then you should be able to rewrite the code to do what you want.. Best of luck!

    I love the little packed stuff, hate that they don't have pins done by a robot. Saw this online on a retail site, did a google search and here you are perfect.
