Hello Painless 360, I wanted to thank you for this video and others in your channel that have finally allowed me to get a Minimosd working perfectly. OSDs have been the one FPV component that has been quite troublesome for me, I've managed to get some to work but never 100% functional - either voltage not showing at all, faint OSD overlay, ground loops, worked for a short period, etc. I had a light bulb moment when I watched one of your videos (sorry cant recall the actual video, watched so many from your list to get all the pieces of the puzzle) where you mention that the minimosd has two sides which both have to be powered and the preferred method of doing this is via the same 5v from the FTDI/digital side of the minimosd using a solder blob on the top and bottom of the board...In the past (as per instructional sources as well as the OSD manual) I had powered the analogue side of the board via the 12v or 5v from the vtx and as you stated and i found this can cause issues, additionally i have a 4s setup which would have killed the OSD , so after an hour of looking at my Rctimer Mavlink OSD for these solder points and searching online I realised that either this particular OSD board did not have these solder points or I simply could not find them on the board and that's when i found this mod...:fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?29096-Mavlink-osd-V2-0-5V-mod Soldered the wires as per the pictures on the link above and now when i plugged in my OSD to my pc I could see power was reaching the analogue/overlay side of the board, followed the rest of this video and success!!!! Sorry for the long post, maybe this can help someone else, many thanks and keep up the good work!!
Hi Paul, I have watched a lot of your videos, they are a great resource with clear explanations so thanks for that. I might of missed something but, In betaflight I can enable the OSD and adjust what is included/displayed. Does this mean that I don't need to add a MinimOSD board? or is that just a 'generic' tab for OSD settings for FC that have a OSD built in?
This has me confused as I was under the impression that it came with an integrated osd. That's what I was looking for. 😬 Thanks for the excellent video Painless360. 😉
The original Seriously Pro never came with an intergrated OSD. Many boards have copied the pin layout can use the same firmware from Beta/Clean/iNavflight with some of the later boards also including an OSD on the same board too.. Best of luck!
This video got me going with my SP PRO and a 9$ Micro Minimum OSD. It came up and worked when I plugged the battery on the very first try on my mini quad. I almost fainted. Compass, baro, voltage, etc. working in my display just gave me a powerful nerdgasm and my fingertips are still tingling as I type this. I tried the newest Arduino for grins and the author is correct, it won't compile. My FC is using Betaflight, CF would not work on it, I don't know why but on my FC BF works perfectly. I'm getting acquainted with and am starting to like the SP FC boards. I'm a LibrePilot fanboy who has had some growing pains with other FC units. I appears to me the uart1 contention issue only happens when the battery is plugged in. I haven't put it to the test in the field yet but am confident. If my craft does return to earth as a flaming esc ignited lipo fueled death meteor or some such I will post my mistakes with all humility after the resultant session with my analyst.
In the field all worked, no disasters but......I just got back from the session with my analyst. He told me that a low frame rate from a newly installed OSD is probably fixed by a setting somewhere in the flight controller CLI or the MWOSD GUI and the author of the video I watched to pull off my feat of notable nerdism would probably know exactly what to do and I was able to leave my session in high spirits.
Hello! Thanks for the video! Your channel has been making my first build a lot easier. So, I have a doubt and I didn't found the answer in your videos. My Video transmitter (Eachine TX526) doesn't have a 5V out for my camera (Eachine falcon) and the imputs are like this: [GND, audio, video, GND, 7~24V]. The camera will be powered by the 5V BEC in the PDB. The audio will be CAM --> VTX The video will be CAM --> MinimOSD --> VTX So how do I connect the camera ground wire? Should I connect it in the PDB? Should I connect it in the OSD and VTX or should I connect it directly in the VTX? Sorry for the long question!!
+Jonathan Volkmann Cardoso is connect a GND wire to the camera, input on the MinimOSD and the PDB so there is a nice conmon reference for the signals. Best of luck!
Thanks for the answer! Ok, so I should do like an Y connection with the "OSD GND in" and the PDB? And I shouldn't connect anything on the VTX "extra" GND and on the "OSD GND out"?
Painless 360 Thank you so much for all your help. I one side question I have a S500 and using sunny sky KV 1400 II everything is good if i want add a gimbal should i get a lower KV motor. once again Thank you for the points up on the x220 Happy flying.
It's more a question of can the current setup lift the extra weight easily. If so then you can keep the motors, esc and props you're using.. Best of luck!
Thank you very much for your videos, they are really helping me. I'm a newbie in racing quads and now I'm building my Robocat with this FC. The Q is ... can i use default firmware on OSD that you mentioned in this video for Racing F3 with Cleanflight on board or I only can use this MWOSD firmware specially for Cleanflight? I don't really like this MWOSD firmware :( P.S. Could you please give me a link how to connect this MinimOSD without 12V, I can't find it :(
As an update to my issue of not being able to (Re)flash, I have SOLVED it with stubbornness!! I hope this might assist others if they ever have a similar issue. Even though I have successfully connected to the OSD via the following pins :VCC, GND, RX &TX on previous occasions, when I tried to go in and meddle with setting and update to MW_OSD 1.6 this time I couldn't complete the upload, with Ardunino always showing "uploading" What I did to overcome the issue was two things 1. I ran an EEPROM_Clear sketch 2. I connected the "DTR" wire between my FTDI and the OSD This allowed me to successfully upload the new firmware with no issues. Dunno why it suddenly needed the extra wire to allow it to flash properly, clearing the EEProm I can understand.. Hope this helps +Painless360 I blame you !!! for this, a week ago I watched the your video on "soft serial"and thought hmmmmm I could could re-flash my OSD to 19200 and run it off pins 5 & 6, then I wouldn't have to disconnect my RX/TX pins when I connect my USB... and so the journey began hahahaha
Hii! First i wanted to thank you for the great videos about the spf3! they are really helpful! How can i set up my board so i can use telemetry (sbus of x4r) and osd at once? I would like the option without the soldered pin on top, since the space is pretty little. So if i use uart 1 at the side of the board could i just construct an y-cable for the TX to get telemetry to the receiver and the information to the minim osd? Or what other connections could i use if i cant use an y-cable?Thanks so much for your helpp:D
Hi Painless 360 I just want to say. Thank you so much for all your help. I am looking for a upgrade for my S500 with a new FC. Two questions not sure should I get the vector or pixhawk. I use my s500 for light filming. For vector I know where to get and will not get a fake one, but for pixhawk where do i go to order a real pixhawk. I saw to many brand of pixhawk. I do not want to get the fake one and waste my limited saving. I do not mind pay a little more to get the real deal. Hope you can help. I trust your opinion. Once again thank you for helping me out with my x220 everything is good now. Happy Flying.
+TRULEE MEMORABLE if you want a non clone Pixhawk then you need to look at the Pixhawk 2.1.all of the others are clones and are usually good but there is that risk, see my series on the Pixhawk 2,1 and the series for the Vector just started.. Best of luck!
I have all my quad parts being sent to me and am so excited to get started! Thank you for your channel, it has been super helpful. Do I need an OSD in order to have a horizon bar? I have the SP FC3.
When you connected to UART 1, was there a reason you soldered header pins instead of just using the UART 1 connector already on the bottom side of the board? Thanks
The moment I connected my Micro MinimOSD to my FTDI board the green LED started flashing (on the OSD board) quickly and the main chip began heating up. It was toast and had a short somewhere. So I ordered another one. I made sure the power wires were correct before plugging the FTDI into the USB port ie powering it. Is that common to have bad boards right out of the gate? I could have fried it when soldering the pin connector but I'm not sure.
The original Seriously Pro F3 is only available in clone form. the original designer, Dominic Clifton, n longer sells them. We will see lots of 2:1 and 4:1 flight controllers coming to the market in the next 6 months dramatically reducing the need for lots of individual circuit boards on our models. Happy flying!
Hi, Thanks for the vids. Can you have MSP simultaneously on multiple UARTs on the SPRF3? I was going to upgrade my old basher quad from Naze32. It has Minim on UART 1. I had to put on a switch to turn off power and tx/rx to the Minim so I could plug in USB without taking the whole thing apart. The switch is flaky though and I thought I could get rid of it if I put in an old F3 board instead? Cheers.
Got mine all working thanks to this video. However my battery voltage reads like 10-11v no matter what. Any idea what's going on here? I'm running a 4s...
I have a question. You connect the OSD to UART 3, which makes it impossible to use at the same time as the USB port. What if you do not use UART 3 but 2. Can you then use the USB end leave the Minim OSD connected?
+Gerard de Vries you can, I found having a couple of UARTs setup for telemetry caused problems. We show the way it works in the video - you can try others but this was the way we did it.. Best of luck!
first of all much thanks, for all your helpfull vidz! im doing the same thing for my cc3d revo. is thier any diffrance doin this with librepiolt if so can u assist me ????? much thanks!
Hi.. great guide.. Just set up my minimosd and almost everything works fine, but somehow the osd is not showing the voltage.. it shows 0.00V. I got the newer version of the minimosd which has the connectors for bat and so on at the side. tried to connect these with the battery, but it remains to be 0V. Any idea why I did wrong ? Thanks for your advice.
Check in the GUI, there is an option to choose where the board gets its voltage data from, the on-board pad or the MSP telemetry from the flight controller.. Best of luck!
Hi.. thank you for your reply. i believe I have the option chosen in the right way, but without success. i tried both ways.. Voltage remains 0.. No idea ?!?
I had a question about the MinimOSD board and I can't seem to find the answer online. On the back of the board behind the MAX chip, there are three solder point holes. I have two boards - One has a solder bridge across the holes and the other doesn't. Before I install one of these, do you know what the difference is and why one might be bridged?
Thanks for the info. I was noticing there was a new option for getting the software as of this video but wondered if the free option was still around. A couple bucks isn't going to break the bank, though. :)
HI Painless360 first i want to thank you. You are great answer question for newbie like my self. I have a question I follow your step with OSD it work great. I just have other questions I just crashed Wizard x220 one of the motor stop spinning, when i go back to clean flight check the motor two off my motor speed are very high and one not spinning is low. My question to you it that mean all my ESC are shock after my crash, or my motor is bad. the motor spinning fine except the speed is high and the one motor do not spinning mean i need change that motor. I hope you can answer my questions. So i can get replacement part. Thank you so much. Happy flying.
TRULEE MEMORABLE first of all check to see if you can spot any problems with the wiring, if it all looks ok then I swap one of the working Motors with the motor that doesn't work and see if the problem stays with the ESC or moves with the motor. That will let you know which part is broken, be very careful about running Motors like this as you might end up damaging other pieces too so keep the test very short. Best of luck
Hi Painless 360 Thank you for all your help but still needs you assistance. I have change all new ESC and swap all the motor. What happen is with all new ESC (flashed the right firmware) one of the motor do no spin unless I put more throttle and some time other motor stop. I also changed all new motor with the new ESC. it is mean my F3 flight control broad is broken. I check all the wire is all connected no lost wire all joint at good. I hope you can point me to the right direction. All new ESC and motor. Thank you very much.
+TRULEE MEMORABLE I'd check that you're using the right settings for your ESC in whatever software you're using, and also make sure that the calibration is ok. Use BLHeli suite to check that the minimum and maximum throttle values are alright, see how we did all that in our quadcopter building series. Best of luck
sorry to bother you but im wanting to build a quad capable of long range and really love the SP RACING F3 EVO FLIGHT CONTROLLER you have. If i use the one of the uart ports connected to a TBS pnp pro will it feed the data from the sp's Mag/Compass and Baro/Altitude sensor to the OSD of the tbs pnp. any help would really be awsum as im using the tbs crossfire and really need to see the rssi value *im on the crossfire protocol*
nice video, have you ever had an instance of arduino seemingly taking forever to upload to the osd board ? im running win 7, arduino 1.0.5-r2 with a genuine FTDI and now i cant upgrade to other firmware !!!
+Painless360 cable thing tried about 7, all work in arduino from FTDI to my bluetooth module and the main actual data cable i used programmed the thing before, and this is happening across three different pc's, osd work fine on 1.5 just cant update it !!
Thanks for reply In IBUS connection, tried to use UART1 and UART 3 to activated, and my GPS to UART 2, but after restart, UART 1 and 3 back to inactive again... Any solution sir..?

Hi, is there a diagnostic code list for beeps and blinks? I get a constant beeeeep noise when i plug my battery in. I can move the motors in cleanflight but no comms from radio. also when connecting via usb i get a long blink followed by thre short ones and three long ones (red led). Did I wire something wrong?
Hi, make sure you are not victim of the buzzer output bug of the clone board. Instead of buzzer output, it is constant 5v, just solder the wire on the other pad. Google should help.
Is there any reason not to use Uart2 instead of Uart1 for OSD, it would be less of a hassle when connecting USB. This would leave Uart3 for sbus and just use softserial for telemetry. Just wondering if this would work.
Hello, tell me, can I connect Minim OSD to UART2 instead of UART1 pins, and set it in clean flight as telemetry out? I don't use gps and don't want to unplug OSD every time I plug USB in
I am actually looking for how to you connect the VTX to this FC ? I am actually helping someone that has very low budget and is a beginner, I am used to solder the VTX on the FC on the VTX pads and the camera on the VIN and VOUT etc.. but I cannot find those pads on this FC... Can you help me with this ? Thank you!
This is a very old flight controller now and has been superseded many years ago. Watch the video again and you'll spot that it's actually a separate external board that's doing all of this stuff for you. Best of luck
@@Painless360 Thank you! I have already seen it indeed. I am thinking actually to connect the VTX and camera like you show it here 19:39 with the difference that no OSD will be available.
Hi, can uart2 be used for a micro minim, I'm using uart3 for x4rsb, didn't really want osd on uart 1 as its a tight build and don't want to deconstruct quad to free up usb
I also did everything as you shown and i see the OSD on the monitor (that onely works without the D4R-II conected) When I connect my D4R-II reciever to the F3controler with PPM (one cable) the picture goes away on the monitor Any advice? Camera and OSD are in PAL mode (thats why i can see the osd other the cam picture) that is fine , but why does the monitor picture goes away with the D4R-II conected ?? something to do with jousing the same UART ?? Please help trying for days now!
+Painless360 found problem 1: not enougth 5Volt power from my PDB for the F3+RX+LED+OSD I`ve i turn off the LED`s i got a picture withe the OSD, problem fixed (LEDboard has to get a different 5volt power) But stil no data on the OSD from the F3 , no voltage , can`t get into the stik menu,.....
i am trying to add the micro mininosd board to the sp racing f3 but im getting a dark screen, i can bypass the osd and it works fine. i have it hooked up using the method you use in this video for the regular minimosd to the uart1 port and the osd flashed fine. when i check the volts from the uart1 port i get .98v not 5v so i dont think it is powering on right. any input would be welcom as to why it wont work
+Painless360 yes got that i found that if i disconect the +5v line from uart1 and run power to it via a +5v line direct i can power the board but the board still has no image. oh well it was worth a try using it thanks
Thanks for video . I've problem regarding OSD with Frsky D4R-II and telemetry info on SPRacing F3. The osd screen is working propelled with data (flight mode , horizon , timer , etc) , but the voltage of battery only flashing with 0.0v on display. I'm using minim osd , I used uart2 for osd connection. For frsky D4R-II telemetry port , I connected only RX (green wire) from receiver to SPRacing F3 board 's uart3 at TX pin. I'm using PPM , so I connected one signal cable to IO_1 connector on SPRacing F3 board. And I leave uart 1 port open. May I know what's the problem ?
Also thanks for video. I have the same problem.. Everything works perfect except battery voltage. I saw that in cleanflight battery voltage is also 0.0V (on your other video present battery voltage was displayed).. Of course battery is plugged. Have you got any idea what it might be? Current meter works fine.
Yep - you need to tell the OSD if you're using the battery information from the flight controller or from a directly connected sensor - see the GUI.. Best of luck!
You can, if you use the SoftSerial then you may find you have to lower the baud speed on some boards. Personally I'd setup UART2 with MSP for the OSD.. Best of luck!
Not planning to - they are all variations on a theme now. Some cute new FC's coming out in the next few months that are different enough to warrant a look - happy flying!
If I don't plan on adding GPS to my quad could I change in cleanflight my usb to connect cleanflight to uart 2 instead of uart1 so I can solder my micro minimosd to the uart1 port and not worry about the connecting to usb at the same time?
Hi can you help me please, I configurated my OSD like you did, but I can't see the battery level, show 0,0 battery low, I have the sp racing f3 deluxe for eachine racer 250 flight controller, thanks for help me
The OSD will either show the battery that it's own resistance bridge is set to or it will display the battery detail it's getting from the FC via the telemetry data - make sure you've set up for the right one in the GUI. Best of luck!
I am using a SP3 with inav and want to move the minim osd to a free UART uart3 port, This is so I dont have to disconnect each time I want to connect the USB port. The inav info I found says you can have two MSP ports. I have set uart3 port to MSP and have to correct connections but no matter what I do I cant get it working. If I move the minim osd back to the TR, RX of UART1 all works ok. Do you have any advice to where I am going wrong?
+Wynne Davies (BoLt) depends on how you have it configured. Without a screenshot eccetera, it's Tricky to comment. But you should be able to enable two of the ports running MSP..
I did what you told me and wiped the FC but this was a good thing as it gave me a chance to update the firmware at the same time. I enabled MSP on UART3 but this did nothing (same fault). I have an interesting update on the problem that has made me come to a conclusion up and give but not in that order. I swapped around the GPS that was on UART2 to UART3 and moved the OSD that was on UART3 to UART2. I set up UART2 for MSP and the OSD worked with the USB wire plugged in. Ok that’s the good bit. The GPS now on UART3 with the same setting it had on the other port did not work and I got a RED GPS informing me that there was a problem. So now this had stopped working, Grrrr Just in case I changed TX and RX round and got the same. I swapped the GPS back round to UART2 with its settings and this again worked ok. So form all this I have no choice but to connect the OSD TO UART1 and remove the OSD when connecting the USB. I guess it’s one of those things...
im running a microOSD and latest FW of CF and MWOSD. When i upload from arduino i get a warning of low memory on the micro and when i arm the quad it reboots the osd. Could this be due to the low memeory? I have tried diffrent power and ground sources.
+Painless360 Similar problem here. I tried to upload the arduino code in various combinations - of arduino versions (1.0 to latest one) on different computers but keep getting the error message Arduino: 1.6.7 (Windows XP), Board: "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini, ATmega328 (5V, 16 MHz)" Sketch uses 25,730 bytes (83%) of program storage space. Maximum is 30,720 bytes. Global variables use 1,850 bytes (90%) of dynamic memory, leaving 198 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes. Low memory available, stability problems may occur. avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding Not sure what that actually means. Would you have any advice?
Hi Painless 360, i'm following your videos and they are very explicits...but i'm young in the open source community and i wonder if my list of components would be great....! What do you think about mine......FT232RL FTDI USB To TTL Serial Converter Adapter Module For Arduino , CRIUS NEO-6 V3.1 GPS Module For APM Pixhawk MWC Flight Controller , MinimOSD MAVLink OSD APM 2.6 APM 2.52 Flight Control Board , 3.3V or 5.5V USB Programming Module for Naze / Minim OSD / Frsky / Multi-wii , FTDI GPS Adapter Cable GPS Serial Conversion Cable , Upgrade NAZE32 SP Racing F3 Flight Control Acro 6 DOF/Deluxe 10 DOF for Multicopter... For others components i already get camera, Tx, Rx..... Thank's a lot and fly funny Philippe
+Drones Visions Aériennes Hi there, I support new builders normally using one of the chargeable one-to-one calls as it is an opportunity to go through the list of kit and answer any other newbie questions one may have. The things I'd mention in the list is that you will need to reprogram the GPS and MinimOSD for Cleanflight if you are using the SP3 and choose the motors/ESC and power distribution pieces too.. Best of luck!
when im uploading the code to the board, it says done uploading but then it says under that "avrdude: stk500_getsync() : not in sync: resp=0x00" what does this mean?
Painless360 I have a fatshark dominator hd2 goggle and a mini fpv screen but they are both doing the same thing. There is also no tool to adjust the osd, but if there is, could you please tell me? thank you
Yes there is - see the video where we use the GUI to upload the Fonts. Some versions of the firmware allow you to move things about on screen to help with this.. Best of luck!
+Painless360 dear crew, im sorry sir, you miss understanding, i mean, can i use minimosd APM like link below to Seriously pro racing F3, can i use this osd into seriously pro racing F3, id.aliexpress.com/item/OSD-Board-MinimOSD-V1-1-APM-Telemetry-to-APM2-5-2-6-with-shell/32529672342.html?spm=2114.05020208.3.70.cOcgsx&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_1_79_78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_7
Tried to upload the firmware and it just hangs there for ages, never finalizing. I have watched your video on using earlier versions i have tried 3 other versions and none will complete Any advise?
It would have been more helpful if you could tell me how to do or were to find this Having never done this before Remember i am trying to follow your build from 1 to 9 as a beginner Cheers Happy flying
Re-reading the original post I thought you were talking about the SP3 not flashing. That's what I answered about and we cover that detail I mentioned in the video where I set it up ;)
I am sorry for the confusion, It is the uploading file to the arduino I have watched your video and i cant find how when you say change the rate to manual Surley i have to write some code to do this
I've not had the actual Arduino stop after opening the port. Make sure you're using V1.0.5 as the later versions of Arduino can cause problems with older sketches.. Best of luck!
I've been beating my head for two hours trying to do this with the newest version MWOSD 1.6. It would compile and upload fine, but when i'd go to use the GUI it would read the data and then lock up. I finally decided to try 1.5 and it worked fine. So if anyone else is having this issue, try that. If anyone has an idea what might be wrong reply to this. Happy crashing!
will a FT232RL FTDI USB to TTL Serial Adapter work just as well as the on to IC serial adapter and can i use this osd:www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__80102__Minim_OSD_for_APM_or_Pixhawk_Flight_Controllers.html for the F3
You can but you need to be using the latest and greatest of all the software. thatflyingthing.com/how-to/cleanflight-betaflight-pids-minimosd/ goes through it. Best of luck!
I had a light bulb moment when I watched one of your videos (sorry cant recall the actual video, watched so many from your list to get all the pieces of the puzzle) where you mention that the minimosd has two sides which both have to be powered and the preferred method of doing this is via the same 5v from the FTDI/digital side of the minimosd using a solder blob on the top and bottom of the board...In the past (as per instructional sources as well as the OSD manual) I had powered the analogue side of the board via the 12v or 5v from the vtx and as you stated and i found this can cause issues, additionally i have a 4s setup which would have killed the OSD , so after an hour of looking at my Rctimer Mavlink OSD for these solder points and searching online I realised that either this particular OSD board did not have these solder points or I simply could not find them on the board and that's when i found this mod...:fpvlab.com/forums/showthread.php?29096-Mavlink-osd-V2-0-5V-mod
Soldered the wires as per the pictures on the link above and now when i plugged in my OSD to my pc I could see power was reaching the analogue/overlay side of the board, followed the rest of this video and success!!!! Sorry for the long post, maybe this can help someone else, many thanks and keep up the good work!!
+Aaron Alegria Thanks for the post. Great to hear when the videos here help another builder have a 'Eureka!' moment. Happy flying!
I must say, this dude is a legend :) thanks for the help man. This stuff is damn near impossible to get right without your help.
Glad it helped! :D Happy flying!
its 2020 and its still relevant so helpful man thanks!
I appreciate your vid's man, a huge help in setting up my first build. fly's like I knew what I was doing! ;)
Glad to hear you are in the air! Happy flying!
Thank you. I have a couple of these to replace the super simple osd. Just waiting for the next crash to do it on!
Thank you Very much for helping me set up my mini Quad. You have been a huge help in my learning process.
Glad the videos helped a little. Happy flying!

Sean Bittner sorry, no idea what that would be. I'd suggest questioning this analyst a little more..
The audio will be CAM --> VTX
The video will be CAM --> MinimOSD --> VTX
So how do I connect the camera ground wire?
Should I connect it in the PDB? Should I connect it in the OSD and VTX or should I connect it directly in the VTX?
Sorry for the long question!!
+Jonathan Volkmann Cardoso is connect a GND wire to the camera, input on the MinimOSD and the PDB so there is a nice conmon reference for the signals. Best of luck!
Thanks for the answer!
Ok, so I should do like an Y connection with the "OSD GND in" and the PDB?
And I shouldn't connect anything on the VTX "extra" GND and on the "OSD GND out"?
Not sure what you're asking. I'd connect all the GNDs together - VTX, camera and MinimOSD. Best of luck.
thank you, a great well explained process. you will make my setup a painless one! thanks again!!!
Thank you so much for you help. I will check.
I don't really like this MWOSD firmware :(
P.S. Could you please give me a link how to connect this MinimOSD without 12V, I can't find it :(
As an update to my issue of not being able to (Re)flash, I have SOLVED it with stubbornness!! I hope this might assist others if they ever have a similar issue.
Even though I have successfully connected to the OSD via the following pins :VCC, GND, RX &TX on previous occasions, when I tried to go in and meddle with setting and update to MW_OSD 1.6 this time I couldn't complete the upload, with Ardunino always showing "uploading" What I did to overcome the issue was two things
1. I ran an EEPROM_Clear sketch
2. I connected the "DTR" wire between my FTDI and the OSD
This allowed me to successfully upload the new firmware with no issues.
Dunno why it suddenly needed the extra wire to allow it to flash properly, clearing the EEProm I can understand..
Hope this helps
+Painless360 I blame you !!! for this, a week ago I watched the your video on "soft serial"and thought hmmmmm I could could re-flash my OSD to 19200 and run it off pins 5 & 6, then I wouldn't have to disconnect my RX/TX pins when I connect my USB... and so the journey began hahahaha
+Mark Duncan So pleased you fixed it and shared the solution - thank you!
+Claudio Alter What you are asking is covered in the series. Best of luck!
You are awesome!! Thank you for the info!
Yes you do, best of luck!
Painless360 Thank you for all your help.
When you connected to UART 1, was there a reason you soldered header pins instead of just using the UART 1 connector already on the bottom side of the board? Thanks
Either way should work. Personal preference..
I've not used MinimOSD for a long time so not sure, I'd check the manual/documentation for the one you have. Best of luck!
my f3 board comes with OSD out of the box. its not the orginal F3. but it works just as well but with alot more features.
Cheers.
+Plan C you can but you have to be careful. I think you can only have two MSP lines and one of them needs to be the USB connection.. best of luck!
Got mine all working thanks to this video. However my battery voltage reads like 10-11v no matter what. Any idea what's going on here? I'm running a 4s...
Depends how you have it setup. I use the vBat from the flight controller and make sure that's all setup and good first.. Best of luck.
Hi paul. It does work for me in win10. Try to Pick the 32 bit folder after download and run that version.
+paul zug 3 months late but for anyone else who's having the same problem make sure Java is installed and run the 32 bit version
Is it possible to have OSD and Telemetry on this board. I am using minimOSD and fr-sky r-xsr reciever.
first of all much thanks, for all your helpfull vidz! im doing the same thing for my cc3d revo. is thier any diffrance doin this with librepiolt if so can u assist me ????? much thanks!
+Mykel Plaskett yes, you need different software on the osd. Watch our existing CC3D OSD video for the process.. Best of luck!
Hi.. great guide..
No idea, sorry. There are a few different versions of the boards out there now. Best of luck!
Just a note for new players MWOSD v1.5 is the last version to include a free GUI configurator all later versions will cost a fee of two dollars.
Thanks a lot!
Not sure what you're asking. This is probably a better question to ask on the TBS support forums. Sorry I can't be more help..
The first video for the Crossfire went up today! Hope it helps..
nice video, have you ever had an instance of arduino seemingly taking forever to upload to the osd board ? im running win 7, arduino 1.0.5-r2 with a genuine FTDI and now i cant upgrade to other firmware !!!
+Mark Duncan Not here, I'd try another cable and look at deleting the USB part in devices and trying again.. Best of luck!
+Painless360 cable thing tried about 7, all work in arduino from FTDI to my bluetooth module and the main actual data cable i used programmed the thing before, and this is happening across three different pc's, osd work fine on 1.5 just cant update it !!
can you please add to playlist : Hooking up Sonar?, new modes such as anti gravity? ,
iwantitpaintedblack see the sonar video in the Naze32 series, thanks for the idea about the new modes..
nice tutor sir..
btw..how i can connect bluetooth and osd with UART 1 and 3 while i used rx in IBUS with IO2..?
thanks
+EDDY SAPUTRA depends on the receive connection you're using and make sure that the iAd is off when using he USB. Best of luck!
Thanks for reply
In IBUS connection, tried to use UART1 and UART 3 to activated, and my GPS to UART 2, but after restart, UART 1 and 3 back to inactive again...
Any solution sir..?
Thanks for reply

Hi, is there a diagnostic code list for beeps and blinks? I get a constant beeeeep noise when i plug my battery in. I can move the motors in cleanflight but no comms from radio. also when connecting via usb i get a long blink followed by thre short ones and three long ones (red led). Did I wire something wrong?
There is in the documentation. I'd try it without anything else plugged into the FC to see if that helps.. (also check vBat too). Best of luck!
Hi, make sure you are not victim of the buzzer output bug of the clone board. Instead of buzzer output, it is constant 5v, just solder the wire on the other pad. Google should help.
For win7 64bit user, use java 7u21 or some old version.
Is there any reason not to use Uart2 instead of Uart1 for OSD, it would be less of a hassle when connecting USB. This would leave Uart3 for sbus and just use softserial for telemetry. Just wondering if this would work.
That will work. Happy flying!
I'm mounting my board side ways, so usb and uart 1 port are really easy to access
What cable do you have plugged into the out/in header pins? Does this have to be there for this process?
+JU5TbyCHANCE at which bit in the video?
Hello, tell me, can I connect Minim OSD to UART2 instead of UART1 pins, and set it in clean flight as telemetry out? I don't use gps and don't want to unplug OSD every time I plug USB in
+Роман Савченко try it and see ;) best of luck!
+Painless360 tricky answer)) it's better to know before trying))
The way that works is shown in the video - if you want to try another way then best of luck, it may work..
+Jeff Wells You can try it but there is a very good reason we showed it working in the way we did ;) Best of luck!
I also did everything as you shown and i see the OSD on the monitor (that onely works without the D4R-II conected)
When I connect my D4R-II reciever to the F3controler with PPM (one cable) the picture goes away on the monitor
Any advice?
Camera and OSD are in PAL mode (thats why i can see the osd other the cam picture)
that is fine , but why does the monitor picture goes away with the D4R-II conected ??
something to do with jousing the same UART ??
Please help trying for days now!
+RC opter you csn turn off the osd using a channel on the radio. Use the GUI to check you haven't got that setup. Best of luck!
+Painless360
Gui cleanflight of OSD gui ?
thanks for the quick respons
+Painless360 I`m jousing a micro OSD not the mini OSD somthing to do with that?
+RC opter osd gui....
+Painless360
found problem 1: not enougth 5Volt power from my PDB for the F3+RX+LED+OSD
I`ve i turn off the LED`s i got a picture withe the OSD, problem fixed (LEDboard has to get a different 5volt power)
But stil no data on the OSD from the F3 , no voltage , can`t get into the stik menu,.....
i am trying to add the micro mininosd board to the sp racing f3 but im
getting a dark screen, i can bypass the osd and it works fine. i have it
hooked up using the method you use in this video for the regular
minimosd to the uart1 port and the osd flashed fine. when i check the
volts from the uart1 port i get .98v not 5v so i dont think it is
powering on right. any input would be welcom as to why it wont work
+Summer Crow I'd look into the power problem first then make sure that the OSD and Camera are both set for PAL or NTSC.. Best of luck!
+Adam Chan You need to make sure that vBat is connected and configured - see the other video in the series..
Best of luck!
hi good day 😊
i just have one problem.when i update it show ( binary sketch size 29.662 bytes of a 32.256 btye maximum????? please i need help
Happy to help but please watch ruclips.net/video/olIqTiSJHIY/видео.html and come back to me with more detail of what you've tried..
Painless360 hi good afternoon . regarding my osd all working well only my issue is the voltage showing zero whole the time please advise
Can a soft serial port be used instead of the uart1? This would keep us from unplugging the osd to use the USB correct?
You can, if you use the SoftSerial then you may find you have to lower the baud speed on some boards. Personally I'd setup UART2 with MSP for the OSD.. Best of luck!
Painless360 I'll give it a shot! Will you be doing a video on the SP3 EVO? Thanks again for doing what u do!
Not planning to - they are all variations on a theme now. Some cute new FC's coming out in the next few months that are different enough to warrant a look - happy flying!
If I don't plan on adding GPS to my quad could I change in cleanflight my usb to connect cleanflight to uart 2 instead of uart1 so I can solder my micro minimosd to the uart1 port and not worry about the connecting to usb at the same time?
or rather could I just enable msp on uart2 and connect my osd to it and not have to worry about them both being connected at the same time?
+Mike Boyd UART1 is commonly hardwired to the USB port so adding other things to it outside OSDs that also use MSP can cause problems. Best of luck!
What if I use the osd on UART 2?
Try it and see ;) I had huge issues when I tried to get too clever with telemetry.. Might be better now.. Best of luck!
I am using a SP3 with inav and want to move the minim osd to a free UART uart3 port,
This is so I dont have to disconnect each time I want to connect the USB port.
Will do
I did what you told me and wiped the FC but this was a good thing as it gave me a chance to update the firmware at the same time.
So now this had stopped working, Grrrr
Just in case I changed TX and RX round and got the same.
+k.o “crash” rengaarder Possibly, I've not seen that here. I would use the older version of the Arduino compiler.. Best of luck.
+Painless360 Similar problem here. I tried to upload the arduino code in various combinations - of arduino versions (1.0 to latest one) on different computers but keep getting the error message
Arduino: 1.6.7 (Windows XP), Board: "Arduino Pro or Pro Mini, ATmega328 (5V, 16 MHz)"
Sketch uses 25,730 bytes (83%) of program storage space. Maximum is 30,720 bytes.
Global variables use 1,850 bytes (90%) of dynamic memory, leaving 198 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.
Low memory available, stability problems may occur.
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
Not sure what that actually means. Would you have any advice?
Yep - we have en entire video on the common causes for the STK500 error - you've watched that right?
Thank's a lot and fly funny

We have a video on that exact error.. Best of luck..
Hello Painless 360. I have a problem with my osd. The info on my osd wouldn't fit into my screen. Do you know how to fix this problem?
Depends on what goggles, OSD and setup you are using. Some OSDs allow you to move the on screen elements in a row or two..
Ok thank you so much for the help
Where can I buy the correct MINUMOSD And programmer everything I have tried just says avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
We have a video on that exact error that may help...
I figured it out haha the rx and tx pins have to be reversed when you are programming it lol.
all I'm getting when opening the gui for the first time says window cannot find "javaw.exe"
+Jeff Wells google that error and you'll find the answer. Best of luck!
hi i connected everything but it says waiting for heartbeats????? can you help me please
+Fiannn 77 what troubleshooting have you already done? If you Google 'heartbeat painless360' then you will find a video on the subject. Best of luck
Dear Painless360' crew,
can I user minimosd for apm, can you give me of your type of, and the link to buy ?
+Iman Rahmat Yes it can - we go through it all in our APM playlist on the channel. Best of luck!
+Painless360 dear crew,
im sorry sir, you miss understanding, i mean, can i use minimosd APM like link below to Seriously pro racing F3,
can i use this osd into seriously pro racing F3, id.aliexpress.com/item/OSD-Board-MinimOSD-V1-1-APM-Telemetry-to-APM2-5-2-6-with-shell/32529672342.html?spm=2114.05020208.3.70.cOcgsx&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_1_79_78_77_80,searchweb201644_5,searchweb201560_7
That is a question for the seller really.. If the MinimOSD can be programmed with the firmware that works with a SP3 then it should..
Where would the OSD wires go when installed on an EVO?
See the Evo videos.. Best of luck!
Tried to upload the firmware and it just hangs there for ages, never finalizing. I have watched your video on using earlier versions i have tried 3 other versions and none will complete Any advise?
+spooner Graham it did that to me when I didn't select Manual Vaud rate. Best of luck!
It would have been more helpful if you could tell me how to do or were to find this Having never done this before Remember i am trying to follow your build from 1 to 9 as a beginner Cheers
Happy flying
Re-reading the original post I thought you were talking about the SP3 not flashing. That's what I answered about and we cover that detail I mentioned in the video where I set it up ;)
I am sorry for the confusion, It is the uploading file to the arduino I have watched your video and i cant find how when you say change the rate to manual Surley i have to write some code to do this
I've not had the actual Arduino stop after opening the port. Make sure you're using V1.0.5 as the later versions of Arduino can cause problems with older sketches.. Best of luck!
Can I use an Arduino Uno for the programming?
I believe you can but we always use a trusty FTDI Basic.. :)
hi,where is the SP3's Hardware designs?
+李恒 Ask Hydra, the designer..
if i use ppm can i then use the osd on uart3? I have gps on uart2.
All of the things I got working are in the series.. Best of luck!
Sir I have the same fc is it necessary to but minimosd or I can add osd from inav osd tab?
From what I remember there isn't an on screen display built-in to this flight controller. Check the specs online to confirm, but I think that's right.
The bk, w, and reds at 11:05
See the wiring diagram for what that's about. You don't need them plugged in for the upload though..
+Borg Quads Good to know - thanks for sharing with the community..
will a FT232RL FTDI USB to TTL Serial Adapter work just as well as the on to IC serial adapter and can i use this osd:www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__80102__Minim_OSD_for_APM_or_Pixhawk_Flight_Controllers.html for the F3
+Shivam Mehta Try it an see, we recommend FTDI Basic adapters here..
can we use micro mini osd instead for lighter and smaller frames with the spracing f3 mini ?

is possible use more then one OSD, like this one and a PDB integrated one (for the current)?
Not really, You could but I'd be worried about delay and interference with the image. Best of luck!

You can but you need to be using the latest and greatest of all the software. thatflyingthing.com/how-to/cleanflight-betaflight-pids-minimosd/ goes through it. Best of luck!
