He's mixed up a special diet that helps with their transition to the Xtreme 1.5mm pellet.

Tropheus Hack:
Pond. Tub style is best.

Brightest most extreme lighting you can use.
Vigorous current is crucial for the healthiness of a Tropheus
Two inches of mud (Years worth of coffee grounds, duckweed, plus top soil) on the bottom.
Add in couple bottles of minerals. (Actually I just used multi vitamins but we wont tell anyone.)
Cover with 4 inches of sand.
Go to a pond grab a scoop of critters.
Seed the substrate with blackworms.
Add in some yeast for the daphnia.
Add in some cherry shrimp.
Plant with Vallisneria. Water lettuce. Add in a patch of rocks on one side.
Chicken bones, Rib bones are great to feed the shrimp, dead fish. Vegetables about to go bad. The blackworms and the shrimp will made short work of the material.
After 4 months add in some feeder guppies. The blackworms will completely engulf a leftover lamb rib. Shrimp, do they ever stop eating... More food=more shrimp
Planaria, Daphnia, Hydra, snails, blackworms, cherry shrimp, guppies
Two weeks before you add the tropheus do not add anymore meat to the tank for the shrimp, just flake food.
This will allow the populations to stabilize more.
In my 125 I have a population of 10 Tropheus Moori Fire Cracker. Five Lelupi. Five Gold head head compressiceps , 5. J. Marlieri, a population of feeder guppies from as low as 7 to as many as 30.
So this never jibed with me about this ultra sterile environment for Tropheus. Lake Tanganyika all these types of things are present plus jellyfish.
400 gallon pond is completely self sustaining.
