A lot lol here’s what the cost would be TODAY, even though we bought the supplies pre-inflation: Two 4’x8’ mdf sheets $30 Table saw rental $32 TOTAL: $62 18- 5”x8’ Shiplap Boards: $180 And you’d still need some sort of saw to cut it to height Nail gun: We own one, didn’t have to rent. But rental would’ve been $20. Would need this tool to do either method, MDF or shiplap. Subscribe to learn more money saving DIY’s 😉
I would do horizontal only because vertical reminds me of that oldschool panneling everyone had in the 80s! I love that you used that cheaper material. I’ve wondered how that would look. I might try this in my laundry room. Thanks for the inspiration!
Nice job guy's, for others watching you could have used 1/2 inch mdf 8x4 and using a router to V groove every 4 inches to create an 8x4 panel that would have been easier to hang and paint.
Omg here's a baby tip... next time u can ask a home depot employee to cut it to size for you. They have a huge vertical cutter to cut large panels. They charge like 20 or 50 cents per cut after like the first 4 cuts
It looks great. I think I like horizontal and the color that was next to that one , I think it was vintage something. But I do like what you chose better than I thought I would. Great work as always.
Love this! 😍 you’ve inspired us and we’re thinking about doing this to our dining room wall. Any cons post putting it up with eucaboard? Is it giving you guys any issues (expanding, smell, quality, etc)?
No cons for us! We love working with eucaboard. It’s less expensive than wood, already smooth and is easier to work with since you’re able to maneuver it around corners and doorways unlike wood!
Yes! Painting in between before can be helpful. But it took about the same amount of time, so really it’s a matter of if you’d rather paint them on a flat surface or up on the wall. I figured since I had to cut all around the baseboards & trim, that I would do it all at once so it was still wet when I went to roll it out smooth ☺️
I wonder how this material would hold up in a bathroom over time. Most likely would only get moisture from the air. It's a small bathroom, but vented. Any suggestions?
Not a bad question! You mean wallpapered shiplap? I don’t see why not. I would suggest applying the wallpaper on the board before cutting it into strips. Instead of trying to apply the wallpaper onto each shiplap strip
How much $$$ did they save on their 8’ wall after adding the cost of renting the gun and table saw?

we only had it in the 80's because it was paneling was installed in the 70's
Looks great. Never thought of going vertical. I like it. I would have chosen the dark green on the end, far right.
It turned out beautiful. I really like that you went vertical since that direction gives the illusion of a taller room. Well done!!

Oh wow! So glad I found y’all’s channel! Love this idea so much! I’m finishing up a shed home so I plan to try this ❤️❤️

My lowes will not cut that stuff because breathing the dust can cause cancer.
@@reepicheeper lol thats why I prefer home depot. I believe they just gear up with mask and gloves to avoid splinters.
@@reepicheeper not true. Lowes will cut anything and thier polices state that.
@@marikiemarie7622 Thank you, I was just thinking about trying this and I really did not want to cut it. I will try again.
They won't cut it because its to thin against company policy bs
Excellent outlet trick!!!
Stunning
This is awesome, I am doing this in my home. Thanks for posting!
4" boards are great-- horizontal at my house and Vintage Vogue! Nice job guys!
You ALWAYS have the best of the best DIY'S!! Thanks bunches and take care!!
Thank you SOO much!! I appreciate you watching ❤️❤️
Great job...I was not sure about the green but it turned out beautifully...💕

Thank you!!
I would’ve done a little bit bigger than 4” and then put them horizontal. But it looks nice!
That’s the fun part of DIY, you get to do whatever you want for your house☺️
@@NextJeneration and the color you chose is perfect!!
Thanks so much!!
Where were you a week ago when I bought plywood? Great idea.
Love it. Gonna do this but horizontal with a slightly different layout
Really impressed!! It looks brilliant. Love you guys
Did you do any trim at the open wall end? If not, did it look clean without?
We did end up adding a small trim piece!
Thank you for the video😊

Hi, would you rather paint in between the boards before putting them up? And what's the sheen on the paint you used? TIA

I believe it’s satin
your first guess was 20! and then he said nooo probably way more than that to get you to wager up. you were right!
Such a nice budget friendly way of doing it! Do the “boards” have a noticeable weird texture to it or do they look smooth?
They’re smooth!!

We have it in our bathroom and it’s holding up perfect! And we have pretty bad ventilation in there lol
@@NextJeneration Thanks for your reply!
I love it. Great team work 🥰
Thank you!
This might be a bad question : but can you apply peel and stick wall paper to that?
Not a bad question! You mean wallpapered shiplap? I don’t see why not. I would suggest applying the wallpaper on the board before cutting it into strips. Instead of trying to apply the wallpaper onto each shiplap strip
Came out great!! What size nails do you suggest to use?
We used 1.5”
Love it! I want to do this to my entryway with vertical boards like yours. Did you use paint for wood or paint for walls?
Paint for walls!
What is your spacer exactly
The MDF strips! Turned on the side
What thickness did you use please for the wood? Thank you
It’s “MDF board” or “eucaboard” and it’s about 1/4” thick
I was thinking that material wouldn’t be good in a bathroom with hot showers. Great for a bedroom though.
The fence is supposed to be on the other side
Paint the wall first. Much easier.
FYI. Home Depot no longer cuts boards smaller than 11”
Good to know!
They just ripped hardboard (eucaboard) into 6" strips for me today. I had them cut 5 4'x8' boards for me.
Can depend on the location or the employee...
Hopefully you used the grey/ green. I will find out when I unpause....lol.
😂😂😂 It was suchhhh a hard choice!!
NextJeneration when you showed the new colors my wife and I both chose the green you guys picked. Looks great! Awesome job you two.
Great minds think alike!! Thank you!
First hi guys!
Hey!! 👋🏽 thanks for watching! 🖤
Looks like they drew lines. Could have done that with art tape, then paint..remove tape. Done
Omg that would look horrible in person 😂😂😂😂 I’ve seen people do that as a “dupe”, definitely don’t recommend in a high traffic area
