Hey man! Great video. Security systems professional here, one piece of advice I want to give you, please use surveillance grade hard drives such as Skyhawk or WD Purple or any specialized enterprise/NAS HDD models such as WD RED or IRONWOLF. Even though cheap, normal HDDs break down much faster and are not as reliable long term (they fail the SMART tests much more often after years of usage). Those drives also come with a 5 year free data recovery plan which gives you peace of mind in the case something does goes wrong and the client will most likely not lose critical recordings. Cheers!
If you take apart the enclosure with little to no damage then keep them in the boxes for if you get a failure to RMA it. WD did not give me a hard time on my RMA when one of my drives failed in my NAS. I just kept a list of what internal serial number went in each enclosure and keep in my garage.
Great, that was very helpful. I didn’t read anywhere in UI’s specs what were the specs for the drive capacity, power requirements, I only saw the size 2.5 and 3.5. Thanks again
A full year?!?! Who's slacking? MY home office floor was ripped up in I think April 2022 and finally got fixed in October 2022 for a pipe that cracked in the foundation. I'm still not back to where I was before on unpacking and organizing my tech.
It's a pretty long list of problems but mainly lack of supplies, poor work, contractors that were fired, contractors that never showed up to start, difficultly finding contractors, and then redoing working because of damage due to excessive humidity. But that isn't the conclusive list, just the high points.
@@SPXLabs Sadly that's a problem not only in AL but everywhere, there are less and less folks that really care about their craft and only about making a quick buck or two ...
@@SPXLabs We're getting repairs done right now, too ... someone set the carport on fire in April ... but the level of tool abuse/misuse and crappy work is frustrating ... on the other hand though I stay out of it since they are insured ...
What?? That's wild. Why would someone do that???? I'm not sure what is more frustrating getting bad work done or not being able to get any work done...
It's funny too because I went in thinking I'd have all the cable ends finished with their keystones but only managed to get 3 or 4 done. I believe in the end it will turn out very nice. I really just need time to get it done. I mean hell it looks better already with the little work I did.
For the Keystones I use Trendnet ones, they have a plastic 'cover' on a hinge and when you close it the strands get pushed in so you do not need a pushdown 8 times
If you do a lot of keystones the vertical cable vmax jacks with the ipunch tool are amazing. they also have an extreme density keystone panel with 48 slots in 1RU.
@@SPXLabs The V.C. stones are nice but cost $2.40 ea which is twice the T.N. cost, also for those you can use regular pliers to close them up, no special tool needed
Have you checked into having your internet connection being bridged so your actual Internet address is located on the Dream Machine? Makes things a ton easier especially if things are added that require opening ports. Also, one of the cheap network testers available on Amazon that has 8 remotes would have made your life a lot easier. I’m struggling through a pretty big install right now also, and one of those jobs that keeps getting more and more added to it as time goes by. Yesterday I spent 14 hours taking the old rack out and installing a slightly bigger one, but a 24” deep one on a hinge, and wow it’s so much nicer, I struggle with keeping things neat and organized but I’m learning. It has 3, HDBaseT boxes, each with 8 inputs and 8 outputs, and as of now they go to 21 TVs, 17 are 85”, and 4 are 86”, then there are two access points, 4 small switches and one 24 port PoE, a 64 camera NVR/switch system, a door access secure area, a point of sale system consisting of a server, 2 wired locations, and 4 wireless locations, and it’s all connected to a liquor gun system that makes it so you can’t make a drink unless it’s put on a persons bill. On top of that there are over 1,000,000 leds on two different, DMX systems, and a networked JBL audio system. That’s all I can think of at the moment but there’s more lol, it’s a zoo but I’m having a lot of fun with it at the same time. So, after all that babble, it’s the reason I’m looking into network install videos, especially UniFi systems, I’ve done several already and am still learning of course. Firewall rules are a struggle for me, especially in UniFi, keeping all the networks separated for security. Tempted to do a video of it but I’m super awkward on camera and there are always people around, plus I’m on the clock so have to watch that. Anyway, looking forward to your next video.
Not yet, bridging or passthrough is probably one of the last things I'll look into. There is still so much to do and having to keep waiting for contractors to do their thing is getting very annoying. That sounds like a lot to manage. Liquor gun system?? I need one of those lol. It also doesn't help that UniFi keeps updating and moving things around lol. Filming a video with other people watching is strange, I'm still nervous about it to this day mostly because I don't film in public hardly ever. If you do it and keep doing it you will get desensitized to being on camera.
What considerations are you needing to check for hard drives. And is a 14 TB drive no problem? Why Ubiquiti only sells an 8TB, I will never know. What was the crank of 14 TB from Best Buy?
I give clients options, like purple drive and less storage for high cost or more storage for cheap but probably more prone to failure. The Wd easy store drives are normally on hella sale like $200 or less for 14TBs and are helium filled and tend to be resilient. So people take their chances on the cheaper drive in order to have more recordings in their history. There is no performance difference.
About a year ago in Part 1, when we started the project, there was going to only be some cameras and a couple access points. But after a little while the home owner wanted to do some upgrading. Also there was a burglary at one point and long story short, there are actually two UDM Pros that were bought for this project. An SE and a 1st Gen UDM P. And many other additions since Part 1.
I don't believe so. However, I prefer non-nas drives as these have higher RPMs, are helium filled, will probably never be spun down, and will perform well with multi-user access. I'm sure a NAS drive would be fine in UDMP but if I had it my way, I would also buy one of these Easy Store drives for my own UDM. But I don't care about the warranty and junk because they are significantly discounted.
Using those hdd from those external hard drives won't last. I installed those in almost a dozen cloud keys and udm pros and they have all failed within a few months. Those cheap nas drives are not ment to be constantly written. I had to replace all with actual nvr drives. Be warned. I lost all my profit off those jobs replacing hard drives

I've heard such things. I have yet to have one fail. Cheers to hoping. The enclosure is in relatively good shape. Didn't break anything thankfully.
love the video man! This type of work i find fun!
It isn't too fun in the moment but it does have it's moments. I can't wait to "finish" and really show off the final product.

I’ve seen tools like that I think where you can crimp a keystone in one go. It would be nice to have one but I don’t think I do it often enough

Wow, what a downlink from UDM to switch. I asume you'll get a DAC cable later?
Not sure at this time. But maybe. I there is still so much to be done.

So Julie has been living like that for over a year? :O That's insane.
She hasn't been able to live in her house. She has been living else where.
It would be good to put a link to the first part so I don't have to dig through all the other videos to find part 1.
That’s a good idea! Traveling right so I can’t. I wish RUclips search was better
Why the TP link router? Doesn't the Internet provider already provide you with a router?
Customizability and control.
Great content :)
Too kind!
Why have a cloud key if the UDM pro can host the network console?

Do you drop 3 Ethernet behind each tv? (tv, soundbar,1 spare)
No spares. I didn’t do the drops an electrician did. Homeowner opted for 1 drop. :/
Are the hard drives in those easy store devices NAS rated?

This drive was probably bought several months ago. But either is way fine and either work fine
I would not put a NAS drive in it, but a surveillance-rated drive. For WD this should be a Purple.
11:30 this hurts my soul watching

Oh yeah. One day I’ll be able to finish it and make it nice and clean
