Much appreciated! Brings the period to life! The hysteria that infected ordinary people in NYC before the crash is mostly ignored!

Mine would have been 65, but he'd been dead for 12 years by '28.

"9 out of 10 are gamblers; pure and simple wanting something for nothing". You could say the same to this day regarding day traders. Hasn't changed.

Love your videos. I was wondering if you know of any people that made a lot of money from the stock market collapse? There's always a few who benefit. A video on that would be great.

For those interested in the perspective of an immigrant during this time, I recommend Frederico Lorca's The Poet in New York. He witnessed the soon to come crash, while studying at Columbia.

When Franklin D took over, I think he had wall street regulated so nobody would lose their shirt.

From what I understand, Ronald Reagan began the deregulation of financial services, continued by Bill Clinton who ultimately scrapped 'Glass-Steagall' - introduced in 1933 by Roosevelt. 2008 saw the biggest global banking crisis since 1929.

Actually, FDR set up the security and exchanges commission and put Joseph Kennedy, father of JFK, in charge.

Yep all of them deregulated the bankers. It's terrible and the reason we are in the shape we are. Along with the war on drugs all these "leaders" really F'd up this country.

And he made Joe Kennedy the first head of the SEC. Classic fox guarding the hen house scenario.

Joe Kennedy was no saint, but the GOP has still never elected a president as great as FDR (other than Lincoln, and Abe wouldn’t recognize today’s GOP)
