jodie and mandip answering the "what does the support of the queer fanbase mean to you" knowing that yaz and the doctor canonically like each other is brilliant
Yes it is important for kids to see that diversity exists. They had 12 white, straight male Doctor's. Now they get to see a female Doctor who still prefers women. Makes perfect sense to me.
What I especially love about dr who is that they put gay couples in stories just completely unironically, like they are like the only show I’ve ever watched that has like one off gay couples or people in episodes and they don’t make them being Gay a whole big deal, they really portray gay people and relationships like they are in real life, in the real world people being gay isn’t their whole personality or character arc and dr who does that
Jodie talking about how Doctor Who is about humanity- so humanity should be represented made me tear up. Its just so so true. And yeah, everyone should be able to see themselves in DW.
@@noneya3635 "just not that problematic male part of humanity" so was that sarcasm or are you saying that people in general aren't allowed to have biases and faults? Jodie is so hilarious when she gets excited. Love listening to her and Mandip interact too. I was hoping for more "Snog, Marry, Exterminate" randomness but thanks for the interview!
I've been watching Doctor Who since Jodie was in nappies, and I cannot remember the last time I enjoyed TV Who this much - maybe 1990 with Ace & the Professor, when all the women at Bryn Mawr wanted to be Ace or date Ace or both. Jodie has had such a hard job with the headwind she gets from some quarters, but she brings all the daft energy, passion and compassion to the Doctor the part requires. And Mandip has been brilliant too, both in showing a companion's classic Who style character development as she learns more about herself on her travels and gains confidence and expertise that will allow her to achieve things in her post-Doctor life, and in the way Mandip portrays the subtext of a gal with a crush on the Doctor (but not an unhealthy obsession, for the most part; Yaz is terribly attached and looks at her starry eyed but also recognizes the all too annoying flaws and risks of getting attached to an alien one knows too little about - a bit more healthy than recent new Who Doctor/companion dynamics). It's been fun, The characters are great, the actors are great, and thanks to the chemistry between Jodie and Mandip I can't help wanting the Doctor to find a clue and give Yaz a snog - but I'm here for them until the last second. I'm probably gonna bawl like a baby for Jodie's regeneration, when i never have for any that I can remember, even Jon Pertwee's which hit me hard because I was quite young. Jodie, Mandip, you'll probably never see this, but as a bi Whovian who's just about old enough to be your mom - you've given us joy during some difficult years. You've brought this classic Who fan fully aboard new Who. Good luck in your next roles. I love Jodie’s answer to the whole ‘why do boys need female role models’ question. I never thought about it that way myself but she’s totally right. As girls we are just expected to look up to men a lot of the time because women have been and still are in the minority of lead roles. Why should it still be a question when you reverse the roles? All children should have role models of diverse genders and backgrounds to look up to.
I used a similar answer even before Jodie's first episode and I think both boys and girls can benefit from have opposite role models, there's no reason why we shouldn't. In fact, there's more reasons why we should. I always admired female roles just as much as male roles and it's a scientific fact we both have in ourselves male and female hormones, we flip each others' "energies" all the time. I think having both role models no matter who they are can always give oneself things to aspire to and wrongs they must overcome.

If David Tennant and Freema Agyeman were great during the Doctor Who series, the same has to be said for Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill. They definitely are a great on screen pair and the action in the current series is just amazing to watch.
Jodie's answers 6:12 - 8:05 pretty succinctly sum up first, my reaction to the Thirteenth Doctor; and then second, exactly why I fell in love with the show as soon as I watched my first episode back in 2005 :') (also I agree, Eccleston's jacket was fantastic ;D)
She has one more episode left which is very sad and bitter sweet. I loved her Doctor the most. Grew up watching this series fell in love with it when David Tennant was playing the doctor after him I wasn't that attached to any dr until her. Yh the writing was off but HER as the doctor was marvelous! Jodie Whittaker was THE PERFECT doctor castings EVER. I wouldn't want any other actress to play the first female doctor. Her ACTING is out of this universe. I hope after this is all over and after her baby is born she will comeback to the industry with a great project, and she gets many more big projects in the future. Hopefully she will return as the doctor in the future as well. I can't end this without saying that Yaz was well casted as well Mandip did a splendid job. Gonna miss these two working together. I'm heartbroken to let them both go but Can't wait for the future. She will be MY Doctor forever.
I wish that Steven Moffat would write and produce at least one story for these two really fun people. I mean, Jodie is truly "Doctor-ish-ly" awkward (Moffat's great at writing that stuff), and Mandip's silliness never got used enough.
This last series was amazing! My fav episode was with Kate-I realized Kate always knew she was seeing the Doctor without being told. And the NYE episode reminded me of “Groundhog Day” from a Doctor Who perspective. Truly brilliant, IMO. I can’t think of another writer who could have done that. Of course, no one else could have written Cubed or 42 (Doctor Who episodes), either. Sorry to see Jodi go.
it's a shame that Russel T Davies didn't return to the era of Jodie Wiltaker it would have allowed him to see her performance for me she played the doctor very well. one more season with Jodie Wiltaker with Russel T Davies would have been beneficial.
'Obviously the show has been on the forefront for queer representation for years now, how much does the support from lgbtq fans mean to you and affect the show?' Mandip and jodie : ;) time to pull a sneaky on ye
I love Jodie so much. I wish we had had her longer. I don’t hate the chibnall era but I really wanted an opportunity for her to do more and I am so mad we got cheated out of seeing her with River
I'd have loved a season with the two of them after the big feelings reveal. I'd also like, just once, to se the Doctor be the one crushing on a companion and trying to hide it. I feel these two would have been great for that.
Doctor Who Has Been Around For 60 Years and I Find That Every Doctor Has Their Own Personality & Alot Of The Stories Have Their Own Personal Moments. Romana , Sarah Jane, Nyssa, Lela, All Had Interesting Adventures and Stories With The Doctor, Ace Was A Different Companion Than The Rest She Was Always The One With The Explosives On Hand In Her Backpack. Each Companion Has A Different Style & Personality That is Unique To The Series, Tom Baker Was Definitely One Of The Best Incarnations of The Doctor, Sylvester McCoy Also Was Very Different From The Rest With His Persona He Was Great For The Series Also. I Think That Given The Chance The 8Th Doctor Would Have Been Fabulous Also.

As a gay woman myself I loved the portrayal of Bill. She was a young woman who happened to be gay. Straight people sexuality doesn't have a big thing made about it. So why shoybit be any different without the LGBT community. Her love story with Heather was treated the same as a straight persons. It was lovely. She also wasn't the stereo typical lesbian. She wore trousers. But so do straight women. She was still femanine. I just feel we didn't see enough of Bill. I'd have loved her to have met the 13th. Not for any kind of love thing between them. Just for her to see a different side of the Doctor.

WHY? They don't deserve it. They've ruined Doctor Who for most people. Both terrible actresses, the worst the show has ever had. They deserve nothing but unemployment after this.
@@blastfromthepast8344 well that's a bit harsh
@@benmiller3252 Harsh... but true. The damage they have done to the show is probably irreversible, even RTD probably can't save it now. How proud they must be.
@@blastfromthepast8344 you are out of your depth. They are actresses. Not writers, not directors. They have to work with what they are given, script and direction. This is not their fault.
@@YoungButRetro LOL. If you gave Jodie the best Doctor Who script ever written, she'd still mess it up! She's hopeless.
Jodie is the best doctor I've seen for a while sad when she will leave
these two made me fall in love with the show. I wish they would stay longer 😩
I'm really going to miss them!
They ruined the show.
I am glad that they go. They stayed far too long.
@@richardcoffer4758 if u think they ruined the show y u here?
I think matt Smith ruined the show, I ain't gonna go looking for interviews of him...
Funny... they've driven MOST people away. So glad they aren't staying longer... they've already stayed too long. How were the viewing figures last night? What? The lowest ever? I wonder why...
Love their friendship so cute
jodie and mandip best friends forever ❤️
I would love to be friends with Jodie Whittaker she is so postive
She looks down on dweebs like you. Try to get some real friends instead of fantasising about a bad actress.
@@blastfromthepast8344 bad actress? Shes bloody brilliant! Amazing actress and so is yaz.
@@blastfromthepast8344 i feel Jodie Whittaker has been let down by chibnall stories
@@Undefinedcreature394 LOL. Get well soon. I think you may need to change your meds!
@@kylelacey8062 They are BOTH to blame. He is a terrible writer. She is a terrible actress. She's totally wrong for the part in every possible way.
I love these two so much! Also I am here after Eve of the Daleks and the question about the support of the queer fanbase hits so much harder after what happened in regards to Yaz's feelings for the Doctor, this is so important!
Dude they’re wonderful haha. The Doctor & Yaz are great
I truly cannot express just how much I love these two nerds 😍
Jodie, as the Doctor, in those weird flood pants were the fashion crime. But we still love her. :)
Loved every Yaz and 13th interaction. They're so cute
I'm hoping expanded media explore their adventures straight after revolution of the daleks and before they meet Daniel lewis
I remember when I first saw Jodie Whittaker in the Sci-Fi movie Attack of the Block… She’s an awesome actress… For Jodie -> 💐💐💐💐 … 😎
Favorite moment when the doctor and Yaz look in each other eyes.
Thanks for this, most entertaining!
Sorry to see Jodi go.
great interview, nice to see these lovely ladies
it's a shame that Russel T Davies didn't return to the era of Jodie Wiltaker it would have allowed him to see her performance for me she played the doctor very well. one more season with Jodie Wiltaker with Russel T Davies would have been beneficial.
i love them so much, this was amazing!!
jodie's outfit looks like something the doctor would wear
Love these two so much
Favourite episodes defo Village of the angels and last seasons Fugitive of the judoon which was best dr who episode in about 40 odd years 😁
I would kill to see Jodie dressed as 7 and Mandip dressed as Ace! Somebody make this happen!!
Yes! ❤❤
Omg yes please😍😍😍 Someone get them costumes when they go to their next convention (f*ck you covid)
'Obviously the show has been on the forefront for queer representation for years now, how much does the support from lgbtq fans mean to you and affect the show?'
Mandip and jodie : ;) time to pull a sneaky on ye
I love Jodie so much. I wish we had had her longer. I don’t hate the chibnall era but I really wanted an opportunity for her to do more and I am so mad we got cheated out of seeing her with River
I'd have loved a season with the two of them after the big feelings reveal. I'd also like, just once, to se the Doctor be the one crushing on a companion and trying to hide it. I feel these two would have been great for that.
"I would never exterminate the Master"
And then the death particle happened
I Think That Given The Chance The 8Th Doctor Would Have Been Fabulous Also.
loved this! going to miss these two so much!
No one else is. They've ruined the show. How were the viewing figures for last night by the way?
@@blastfromthepast8344 why are you replying to every comment saying this .. do you have nothing better to do?? lmao embarrassing

they're so adorable
I love Jodie Whittaker as doctor who
Sad. No one else does. Maybe that's why they took her face off the front of the annual? And why the viewing figures for last night's 'special' were the lowest ever. She's NOT the Doctor. No for MOST people anyway.
@@bookcollector538 LOL.
I love her too!
I would've loved her too.. If it weren't for absolute horrible writing therefore horrible acting.
@@lolasum_sumi_san I think the writing was more of the problem than the acting during Jodie Whittaker's tenure
I’m so glad Jodie doesn’t do social media. Some Doctor Who “fans” are not very nice people.
ikr i was so worried she and the cast would see all the hate but may...be she wouldve been less exposed to it?
I just love them so much 😭
Me too! ❤❤
I’m from Huddersfield too, that was a great moment 😂
I'm hoping Jodie Whittaker goes out with a bang💥
Tbh, if season 1 and 2 had the quality of writing the last season did AND made more of the relationship between The Doctor and Yaz, I think it would have been an awesome 3 seasons. However better late than never.
Her reaction to him being from Huddersfield
Me too hahah
Jodie and Mandip!!!! Can't wait for New Years! Well the day after New Years since I buy it on Amazon.
I really wish that the writing had been better in the last three seasons because Jodie was so good in the role and I love her so much. I feel like the actors were given so little to work with and still managed to make me enjoy their performances.

Ace and Sylvester for the win. Love it!
“Near the big ASDA” is such a typical British thing to say 😂😂
Love you two, thanks
“He’s done nowt to you as Jodie!”
This is great! I enjoyed Eve of the Dale's. Aisling Bee is always so good. I loved the loves revealed in it. I have pretty much loved every episode of Doctor Who that I have seen. I first watched it when I was 8. I am now 53. 💜💜💜 I agree about Ace's style. I still dress that way. 😁
I love these two so much haha, such fun energy
Danvanista is obviously my favourite 😁🥰🥰 This is a wonderful interview 🥰🥰
Mandip was awesome she’s so adorable in real life
As a gay woman myself I loved the portrayal of Bill.
She said that about the scarf but I’ve seen a photo of her as the doctor with a scarf! I think it’s season 12.
I bloody LOVE their accents hahahah
Oods aren’t villains….they were hypnotised by the devil and only went rouge cause humans were cutting there brains off…….
How does the eyeline thing Jodie said work on set? I knew eyeline matching is a thing in editing, but I dont know how they film it. Are there any "behind the scenes" videos that show the eyeline matching filming in DW?

They have 1000 times the amount of chemistry in this interview than any episode!
I love these two both as people and the characters. A fantastic addition to the Whovian universe. As to my fave bit? Definitely the random mattress in the console room from episode 1 of Flux 😂
That set a lot of us thasmin shippers off on a rant 😂

Jodie was fr struggling for that answer lol but I'll give it to them they didn't even flinch when asked
If they do a season 25 Blu ray box set Jodie Whittaker and Mandip Gill should be in behind the sofa
❤️ Jodie and SJ ❤️
I really like Jodie, I wish that Chibnall wasn't directing all of her stuff because I feel like she could have really shined if it wasn't for poor writing.
